Welcome aboard Charlie, BTW - the words will wrap for you, you don't have to hit enter at the end of each line in the posting box - just a heads up, that would be a pain for you after awhile! Seriously, welcome aboard and glad to hear from another in the Mean Green Nation.

We will have to wait until SLC loses, or Dec 23rd for official news unless Harbaugh had one hell of an interview. All of this silence shows me that Dodge is the frontrunner. If you really want him, you should be cheering on SLC, he wants to win a championship with his son, period. Anything less and he will probably stick around to try and get the job done next year when Riley is a SR. Make no mistake, I believe that Dodge will leave SLC - whether it be this year to become NT's new HFC or next year as a QB coach at the school of his son's choosing has yet to be determined. The big question really should be, would Riley choose NT to play with his dad for 5 more years.... and would we want that? What if he can't do at SLC on a IA field of play? There is a precedent for a Sun Belt QB to be pretty damn succesfull at the pro level - just ask The University of Louisiana.... their ex QB was in a Super Bowl a couple of years ago. I don't know if Riley's intentions are to play Pro Ball though - he is a little small for that league - but he can always grow. -
He was also on the staff that led Tulane to an undefeated season. Not saying that he is a good candidate, just that he has not been a perrenial loser for his entire coaching career.

I thought it would be cool to let members of the Mean Green Nation express (intelligently) why they would choose to be Mean Green if they were a recruit faced with the decision of choosing a school. What makes NT the best choice? I'll start - progress. North Texas has shown the ability to move up the ranks and beat the CUSA champ in a bowl game a couple of years ago. You will have an excellent shot at immediate playing time, especially with a new coach coming in. New coaches generally review very little game tape and tend to make their own evaluations, despite tenure on the team. If you are faced with choosing between NT and a big school, can they guarantee you that you will ever even play? We can (and even get on the field as a freshman if you have what it takes, the slate is clean). If you are choosing between NT and another mid major (WAC, CUSA, MAC, MWC, etc...) - you are going to have to evaulate that school's dedication to being a winning program. The fact that we let a coach go that had been with us nine years, won 4 straight conference titles, and slipped for two seasons - shows our tremendous effort to raise our program to the next level. Take a look at our new facilities and at the excitement on game day. I don't think that you will find a more passionate fan base then that of the Mean Green. We really want to win, we have a chip on our shoulders. Wouldn't you like to be the class that got things back on track? I am sure that the other posters will post a lot more to sell the program, their experiences as a fan - maybe give some recruits a lesson in our proud history of the 60's, 70's, and the Aughts. Go at it guys - we really aren't sure who is being contacted right now by staff but we know that recruits read these message boards. Sell North Texas.

CbS Sportsline, says Glanville, Scelfo and Berry
stebo replied to mgsteve's topic in Mean Green Football
Crap, Glanville is finally in the mix. He is my favorite. He is the closest thing to DeLoach out there that is available and has a renewed passion for the college game. He has turned around the Rainbow's Defense and I bet that he could make our back into a top 10 one. -
I hope that you are kidding. There are lots of Eagles out there - there is only one Mean Green.

Former Fellow Big West Foe BOISE STATE U!

Did their attendance go up this year when they started winning? I think that they averaged about 6K a game last year. -
Former Fellow Big West Foe BOISE STATE U!

Boise will not get $14 million for this bowl game. This bowl game will net them about $3 million after expenses. They have to guarantee x amount of tickets, bring their whole band for a whole week - the team for a whole week - etc.. A lot of expense goies into a BCS game and at the end of the day, Boise will walk away with a nice check - but it will not be $14 million. I just want to add - It is very prestigious though. The deal we made with the BCS, is that we would all (non-BCS) be admitted and we would all split one share of one spot, every year - regardless of making the bowl or not. If a team happened to earn its way into playing in that spot - they are now forced to honor it (they weren't before), and the BCS has to disperse a second share to our group (all of non-BCS). So Boise is playing for all of us, not just the WAC. BTW - We (the Sun Belt) won't get $3 million from the game - that is Boise's reward, our conference will get a share of it - and most likely we will choose to invest it by buying a spot into another bowl game rather then disperse it to the members equally. Boise does have a REALLY outside chance of winning a National Championship, Florida would have to beat OSU and Boise would have to thottle OU... and LSU would need to lose. It would be a really outside shot, but it could (in theory) happen - if enough voters watch the game and take it seriously. -
I am curious, which will you attend? I would go to the bowl with Boise in it. By the way, I work for UOP... kinda cool that we have a stadium but no football team, lol.

MTSU accepts Motor City Bowl bid By ADAM SPARKS Gannett Tennessee MTSU has accepted an invitation to the Motor City Bowl, the Blue Raiders’ first Division I-A bowl bid. MTSU (7-5) will play Mid-American Conference champion Central Michigan (9-4) Dec. 26 at Detroit’s Ford Field on ESPN. The Blue Raiders finished in a tie for the Sun Belt championship. Troy owns the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Blue Raiders and will play in the New Orleans Bowl on Dec. 22. Troy defeated Florida International Saturday night in its season finale. It marks only the second time two Sun Belt teams have gotten a bowl bid in the same season. North Texas and Troy played in the New Orleans Bowl and Silicon Valley Classic in 2004, respectively. Sun Belt member Louisiana-Lafayette lost 39-20 to Louisiana-Monroe Saturday night, putting the Ragin’ Cajuns out of legitimate bowl contention.

would have been nice to have 3 "7 win" teams in the Belt this year, it will take a huge second half for the Cajuns to come back.

"Joey, have you ever seen a grown man naked?"

Generic black jerseys? Those players must be ecstatic! I hear that wearing a generic black jersey is every player's dream! They beg for it all season long and coaches reward them with such an honor! I bet that our team is jealous!

That doesn't mean that he isn'tr gay - he just has a beard. Not that there's anythign wrong with that!

There is a post on the Voy board that claims that Mathews and Carthel have turned us down.

Are you losing your mind? How are we going to get a coach to sign with us and tell him that he is stuck with the previous coach's recruits? RV knew damn well what he was doing when he let DD go. It was PERFECT timing. It gives us time to recruit with the new coach after he is hired so that he can bring in HIS recruits, not have a lame duck season with someone else's recruits. We also are going to get the best athletes from the area and state AFTER they have been turned down by OU, UT, and ATM... that is a fact. After the display that Dickey has put on over the last 3 weeks, do you really want his staff out there talking to potential recruits???? Come on!
-
The thing is, if RV did not have a relationship with Nix, we would probably have zero chance of getting him to come here. Nix is considered to be an up and coming coach, probably makes the same as the DC/Ass Head Coach at USC as he would here, and would be on MOST fans' dream lists for replacing their head coach.... I bet that if FIU or ULM tried to go after him, he would turn them down flat out - probably wouldn't even agree to interview. But because RV has a relationship with him, he might be willing to consider coming here. It is our fans that don't want him because the two of them know each other - pretty silly arguement. You want the coach and the AD to get along or else you get another terrible relationship like DD and RV... We should really just trust RV with this hire, he has never done us wrong (and landing Nix would be a COUP for North Texas).

from the DNJ, a late bulletin: Sun Belt commissioner guarantees MTSU bowl bid Sun Belt Conference commissioner Wright Waters guaranteed that “MTSU will definitely be in a bowl game.” Waters made the remark and then repeated it during a phone interview on “All Sports Talk” on WGNS 1450-AM. MTSU (7-5) is in discussions with the Motor City Bowl (Dec. 26), where it is projected to face Central Michigan by ESPN.com, USA Today, College Football News and CBS Sportsline. Central Michigan accepted the Motor City Bowl bid Tuesday morning. A bid for the Blue Raiders could come from the Motor City Bowl as soon as Wednesday. MTSU athletic director Chris Massaro said he still “cautiously optimistic” about the Blue Raiders’ bowl chances. “I’m a little more conservative, but I am optimistic for Middle Tennessee,” Massaro said. “I think this team deserves it.” For further details and reaction, check out dnj.com and Wednesday’s edition of The Daily News Journal. You are right and the story is wrong. The only exception that could be made is if the MAC had two 7-5 teams and the bowl chose to play them against one another rather then choose a Belt team. I don't think that has ever happened and I wouldn't expect it to happen this year. But the new NCAA rules say that there can only be two primary auto-bids to each bowl and if the conference cannot fill their spot, the back-up invites CAN be 6-6, as long as there aren't any alternatives AT LARGE sitting at home at 7-5... if there is a 7-5 team, they have to take them over a 6-6 secondary invite team.

It's official (from CUSA site): Under first-year head coach Todd Graham, Rice (7-5) is tied with SEC West Champion Arkansas as the most improved team in Division I-A. The Owls will make their first bowl appearance since the 1961 Bluebonnet Bowl in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl on December 23 at 7 p.m. CST. Rice will face the champion of the Sun Belt Conference (either Troy or Middle Tennessee) in the game and will carry a six-game winning streak into the bowl. Rice is led by sophomore WR Jarett Dillard, a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award who has caught a nation-leading 20 touchdowns and has scored in 14 straight games, the second-longest streak in NCAA history. "We're excited to have what we feel is the hottest team in the conference right now, " said Billy Ferrante, R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Executive Director. "Rice's proximity to New Orleans, enthusiasm, and anticipation of its first bowl appearance in many years should translate into an electric atmosphere in New Orleans." The AutoZone Liberty Bowl, GMAC Bowl and Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl will be televised by ESPN, while the PapaJohns.com Bowl and R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl will air on ESPN 2. By the way, Rice will end the season in third place - they are tied with E Carolina but they beat them in the head to head so they are the third place team. So we got 3rd place CUSA against 1st place Sun Belt - lets see how far we have come along...
