Northwest Texans playing 5A playoffs right NOW at Texas Stadium
-
I thought that this exception originally was enacted for UT in the 70's... Didn't UT use that exception first? The one that says that if a team wins its conference championship, they can get a waiver from that NCAA to go to a bowl...

Any North Texans Coming To Murfreesboro ?

Ford makes a hell of a truck - thus your great experience. Ford makes a terrible car, thus they are on the verge on bankruptcy by next year... and they have a little situation with the UAW that kinda hurts them, too. I am not sure if we will have American made cars for much longer... -
You would also have to know the BUDGET that the manager was given to hire mid level management/coaches. MAYBE... JUST MAYBE... after buying out DD's half million dollar contract, the budget was very low for replacing the staff thus the choice was unproven college assistants or very proven high school coaches. In retrospect, maybe you micro-manage high school coaches more than you would qualified candidates. There are way too many variables to make this decision on a fan message board. Obviously we are able to pay for someone like DeLoach now, and that is good... maybe this off-season we will be able to bring in some more qualified coaches so that we can have a more complete staff... and then the head coach will not need to micro-manage (if indeed that is what he really does and not just internet fodder)...

Any North Texans Coming To Murfreesboro ?

It is a great place to visit. I have been there for two games and also I went back that way for Bonnaroo this year. Adler took me to Stones River Battleground the first time and I went back this last summer for another visit. The Murf is a really nice piece of this country. -
Hey Nightmare, I sent you a PM. I am bringing out another crew of newbies including my g/f's family - we could use the tix as well as the parking pass if you aren't gonna use them. I sent you my e-mail and phone through your Private Messenger on here, let me know if you get it. Thanks! Steve p.s. This board is so good about communicating extra tickets... for the last game, I brought 7 possible new NT fans and through GMG, they were all able to enjoy the game without paying for a ticket. 4 of those peeps were a family and had so much fun they are going to get the Family Fun Pack next year. These late games (combined with our bad record and bad timing of this game due to Turkey Day) will cause many people to stay at home. I encourage everyone to post their unused tickets on here so that other fans can grab potential future season ticket holders. The tailgating alone is a huge draw for them to come back... plus there will be lots of family in town that will just about be sick of talking to one another by the time Saturday rolls around. Deal with Black Friday on Friday and come out for The Mean Green Saturday!

That's the guy! Tim Christian, he had a brother named Steve... those two guys could do some drinking... and yes, Tim would always give great Simon stories, really - really funny behind the scenes stuff, lol.
-
Well, I guess that I think a lot like the guys at Tina Yothers do... I didn't do any research for that and I had not read their blog today... but it looks like they continue to write what I think. TY is one of the best blogs out there and is a very good sports blog on top of that. Still, only one answer to the question... and it was a yes, so that is nice to see... but RV has the power to reassign TD to another job. What would happen if he were to be reassigned as the OC? BTW, someone mentioned in a previous thread that Matt Simon was reassigned to get him away from the field his last year, his reassignment was to find a suitable replacement coach for... himself, thus he quit. At least that is how the tale goes. The deep snapper... Tim (forgetting his last name right now) was a regular at the Tavern those days and he told me the funniest story about Simon calling his players from West Texas, he kept calling them to tell them he was driving to interview for a job at Arizona or ASU or something, that guy kinda went off the deep end when he got reassigned. Funny stuff, and it might even be true, Tim was a pretty honest dude. He was from El Paso, anyone remember his last name? He was the one that had the unfortunate job of snapping to no punter at the OU game thus evoking a roar of laughter from the Sooner faithful and embarrasing me and my little traveling group of fans yet another time. Those were the days... the days of Simon ball!

I am curious - is there any fan on this forum that wouldn't say "hell yes" to that proposition without thinking twice? I know that Deloach was still at UCLA with a good job when we hired Dodge but I wonder what would have happened if he had wanted the head coach job. Does he even want to be a head coach? I know that the stats do not tell the whole story this year; but this year's defense is MILES ahead of last years in my mind. It took them awhile to get there but last year was just comical. ULM second half seemed to be the turning point for this year's D... they have played pretty consistent Deloach ball since half time of that game. I am starting to see "glimpses" of what I remember about the Delach D... So just curious - would anyone on this board be bothered if RV said "Deloach, you are the head coach now... Dodge, you have been reassigned to OC."...?

We offer this, its called Mean Green Premium... I think it is $100 bucks a year for everything (football, basketball, etc..)
-
Where are you guys?
-
You think so? What game would make you think that? The closest loss all year has been to ULM 17 of our 23 points came in mop up time. I think we are incomplete - the jury is still out. I wouldn't say that we are better than our record though. We just about lost that game last week, a miracle interception on the 1 foot line reversed the loss with time expired, you know?

I thought that the game was at 2, but it must be at 3, the Green Guys are on KNTU right now
-
Middle scares me - today will be a true test. FAU is much better than their record.

Did they fix it? Acer is kind of like Dell for Asia. They don't really make anything - they just assemble things. So - depending on what they were able to get on clearance, the quality of the product is sporadic. There are people that swear by ACER but they will also tell you to stay away from certain models. Really, ACER is to Europe/UK/Asia what Dell is the U.S. The problem is that they do things on the cheap but cheap is not always bad. Their quality control is terrible so there are a lot of lemons out there. Their touch pads have a terrible track record - no matter the model - most people just disable them and use a mouse. I loved my 14" screen Acer, it was really, really good. It was only a 2 gig machine but handled Vista like a charm. When I replaced it with the 15.4 bad boy from Best Buy, I had it optimized, added more memory - the whole shebang and I still had problems with it. I could never hear the dang speakers and the Signal UP couldn't pick up a signal sitting on top of a router. I dumped it and went with the Gateway and have found a great computer in the Gateway laptop. Like I said in the earlier post, they don't really make anything - which is ok - but always check the model number reviews on the web before you buy an Acer - some of them are just assembled with junky clearance parts. So when they sent it back did it work? -
I just got back from Steve and Barry's in Arlington Parks Mall - not one single North Texas item in the store. The had everything fro Norfolk State to Texas Central College to Texas State to Tarrant County College (you get my point) - NOT ONE SINGLE NORTH TEXAS ITEM. Not a sweatshirt, not a t-shirt, not a hat, NOTHING. I asked the lady why and she just kinda looked at me like she had no idea and then rambled something about how there had been a run on collegiate shirts. So I asked her why there were 6 racks of UTA shirts and she said, well - those are selling well, we have had those since we opened the store. Umm, so they have sold everything that has North Texas on it - period... and they haven't ordered more??? No wonder they are on the verge of bankruptcy. And no, this store is not part of the ones that are shutting down. They had a HUGE sign stating that they were not affected by the downsizing and that they were there to STAY.... just no more freaking North texas Gear, but if you want an NCTC shirt - that is the place to go!

Those numbers are also based on an 11 games season whereas now there is a 12 game season in place.

Anyone surprised about the rap sheet on the older Nwigwe? I hope that he turns it around, after college is over - the judge won't have much hope for his future and just lock him up. This kid needs to make sure that he is not in the wrong place any more.

It really is interesting, McCain gave a nice speech but his crowd was all white and very hostile. Sure, they lost - but this campaign has always been about hope for the future and you just cannot move on when that hate is in your heart. Obama's crowd is jubilant for the win - and they cheered when he spoke of McCain. McCain made a comment that sounded almost spiteful - something to the effect of - well, this election takes away any excuses that you lazy minorities have ever used... followed by jeers and boos and cheers. Just weird. I am an Indepedent voter that usually votes Republican. I voted for Bush both times and still believe that I voted correctly. George W Bush saw our country through an attack on our own soil and made a pledge to keep us safe at all costs. He has kept us safe for 7 long years. Enemies with sworn allegiances to terror groups have tried over and over to penetrate our borders, yet the Bush policies have kept us safe. For that, I thank him and his administration. If you had asked me on 9/11 - Ok Steve, we can prevent this from ever happening again but we are going to get really unpopular in the world and we are going to throw the country into debt to make sure that it doesn't happen again - I would have said - "if that is what it takes, I am willing to go that mile". I was teaching 6th grade in Oak Cliff when the 9/11 attacks happened. I wept and so did the kids in my class. A lot of polarizing events have transpired since that time - but one thing has been steady - we have thwarted thousands of follow up attacks. Now, at what cost? Was it worth it? I would have been speaking with my heart that day when I agreed to that... those demands to keep us safe. Looking back, I think that George W Bush just got it into his mind that he was going to be unpopular and rid the world of terorism and he didn't give a damn what people thought or how much it cost. It was affirmed in 2004 that we supported that strategy and he continued to keep us safe. Like it or not, he does have a legacy. He kept our families safe. I voted for Barack Obama last Friday. I did it because I believe that the threat of terrorism has lowered and that the world community is fighting it as a group now. We can also thank W for that. He kind of pushed them into it, but they are there now. I also think that this war in Iraq shoul end as quickly as possible. I also believe that our health care system is criminal. I have a very private story about our health care system that I don't want to put on a message board - but the fundamentals of it rewards the people that cheat and punishes those that try to play by the rules. I also believe that Obama will actually try to change our dependence on foreign crude oil by going at it from many different angles, not just drilling. We could drill all day and we wouldn't be able to come close to supplying the State of Texas, none the less the whole country. His party has shown no initiative to ever actually follow through on their energy policies, even though they have been preaching oil indepedence since the OPEC strike in the 70's. Nuclear power is not the future of this country. I don't want to live near a nuclear plant and neither do most of you. I am a true Independent voter now I guess. I voted for Clinton 1 out of 2, Bush 2 out of 2, and now Obama. McCain never really had my vote but the women's right to choose being off the table for his "list of qualified appointees" was a clincher for my wonderful partner in life. She was fully in McCain's court until that 3rd debate when he came right out and said that any list of qualified appointees that he would put together would not contain someone that believed in Roe V Wade... yes, he said it should be up to the states - but there are some things that States should not have the power to decide... like civil rights or a women's right to choose. That is what our Supreme Court is for. Finally, Palin. Erica and I went through the arguements, because we struggled with this decision... we went back and forth on it. My decision was whether I would vote at all and hers was whether she would vote for eithe Obama or McCain.. Palin was really a terrible deicision. It wasn't a deal breaker but it showed that Mack had completely given himself to the party that he had constantly told to "shove off" and I do not believe for a second that Palin was his choice. I think she was placed onto his ticket by the GOP in exchange for their support. Yes, she energized the base - but she polarized the rest of the country. Anyway, many of you are my friends. Rick McKinney is one of the greatest men that I have ever met. Chaddy has always had fun with me and politics because I am an Independent and he is a staunch Democrat. I just ask each of you that feel so strongly about the issue - whether it be anger or happiness - to really question what you are so riled up about. The sky is not going to fall. We have checks and balances in place ... and really, the President doesn't have the power to do what he campaigned on. He might be able to accomplish something big - like keeping our country safe for 7 long years... the way that W did. He might be the one that stares down the Soviet Union and causes the collapse of communism... he might be the President of balancing the budget and getting BJ's. Whatever the case, just rememeber - at the end of the day, we are all citizens of the USA. You do not owe anything to this party or that, but you do owe an alligiance to your country. That means backing this decision and not promoting more hate. Peace folks, peace. I am proud of the youth vote for FINALLY showing up. What a magnificent day in this country when the youth actually register and vote, maybe the first time ever in a national election. Today is a good day. The stock market is already on its way back up from the exit polls. Change it on the way and YES WE CAN. I would ask you guys that are my friends (or even the ones that don't like me so much) to not attack me on this. I just feel a great sense of pride in our country right now and want to share that with my Mean Green Family. Please don't be those folks boo'ing Obama at the McCain concession speech, it is just not neccesary, you know? Be the class acts that Southern Gentleman are. If things don't get better than we will vote for another change. One thing I can guarantee you is that it simply cannot get worse than it has been... Thank W for keeping us safe, try to remember how he held this country together after 9/11. Trusrt in the system and open your mind to Obama... you are stuck with him now so you might as well keep an open mind to see what happens. Thanks for reading this post. Steve Boedeker

There was a study that came out this weekend that showed the media had about a 65%-35% bias for Obama. I think that Fox was the only one that swung for McCain. NBC swung the most for Obama. The study looked at past elections and showed that sometimes that bias is a hinderance... For instance, the 2004 election. Kerry had about the same margin of bias (favorable) as Obama going into the final week of the election; yet most voters in post election polling said that it was that bias that had caused them to vote against Kerry not for him... so it is a slippery slope either way. Most people will make up their mind based on their family and friends. It only takes one person being passionate about a candidate to change the minds of 100's of others. Elections are won on emotions, these candidates can't exactly do what they propose to do - they can only make proposals and hope that Congress sends up bills to support those proposals. The majority of people in our country are not passionate about politics in general, they just vote how their family and friends vote. Obama has been able to play off of emotions to get people extremely wrapped up in this plight and those people go and convert others. McCain also shot himself in the foot with Palin in that same study, because of the SNL effect. She became a joke - and when she played along with it, it validated it. Most people just cannot fathom Palin taking over the presidency if something were to happen to McCain and I think that has really hurt his chances.
-
Possibly because people track down half-step-aunts and accuse Obama of not paying their bills? I don't know anyone on my father's side of the family. He had a terrible childhood and doesn't want anything to do with them. Barrack has a very large extended family and there are already reports of how he leaves those distant relatives to squandor in poverty even though he doesn't have contact with them... hmm, why would he want to keep his "pedigree" private? The same way that I would want mine private.

There are some very strong feelings on both sides of this issue. I don't believe this will be nearly as big of a landslide as other predict. I think it will be close, about a 4% difference. Those same heartland voters that don't get polled, don't go to giant 80,000 seat rallies, the ones that just work hard - and go about their business each day - and are very conservative... those people will show up in droves today... Just like they showed up in 2004. Will it be enough to lift McCain over Obama? I don't think that is possible, the math just isn't there for Johnny Mac anymore. But it will be a heck of a lot closer in the popular vote than a landslide. Electoral vote?? Geez, Obama mastered the electoral system during the primaries and caucuses with Hillary. He really knows the numbers game and how to get what he needs (and leave alone what he doesn't need)... I think the electoral college will be a big win for Obama with the popular vote only being separated by about 4-5% (Obama winning). Just my opinion..
