  1. I think that they had 14K (reported) for their home opener... and those are usually inflated a bit. I don't understand it - All that work - those awesome new facilities - and only 12-14K show up for the home opener? They still have a little ways to go but I hope they get there. The administration seems to want it, the students don't mind paying for it, but will anyone actually go to the games?
  2. He just can't win - and unfortunately, we are in an area with closed minds. The ideas do not really matter - they are beinng delivered by a brown person with a funny name that all the weirdo hippies and black people elected. If the same exact ideas were being suggested by the GRAND old party - they would be ingenious. I have learned from this board that he is not some people's President (in their minds) - they are just riding this out until they can hopefully bow down to the great Mitt Romney or the wonderfully corrupt Sarah Palin in the next election - the Mormon or a complete idiot will transform the lives of these Southern Christians (how ironic, eh?) back to values that matter such as war, corruption, and "free" (i.e. unregulated) markets. Kinda funny that Bush would speak monthly to the Iraqi people and monthly to the students over there - was he brainwashing them, too? This is a matter of trust. I trust that his message to children will be pure and have nothing to do with politics. The opponents are scared to see Obama be successful at anything... at least it seems.. even a speech to students that previous Presidents have always done. I feel like I am in the Twilight Zone sometimes.
  3. Obviously you have never taught school. If only more parents were involved. This speech is more for the kids that do not have a positive influence in their lives - the ones that get ridiculed when they study because it isn't "cool"... JD is damn skippy correct - people need to really stop knee jerking at every little thing - I keep hearing people joke around that Obama is going to be like Hitler. It started off as a joke but the crazies are really starting to believe it (yes, there are crazies on both sides). I just don't get the dictator stuff - Obama is like the opposite of that. In fact, he hasn't been pushing his agenda hard enough in my opinion. He is risking a Jimmy Carter presidency if he doesn't get tougher... He didn't even propose his own health care plan - he put it into the hands of our incompetent congress so that it would be "bipartisan." I think that this country has been fed so many scare tactics with bogus "facts" to "back" them up that people don't know who to believe. But this is ridiculous. Don't you think that if Obama was brainwashing your children - their teacher would simply turn off the TV? Ok - I just broke my rule of not getting into this board's arguements but as a former inner-city school teacher that is still in the education business - MANY kids have very little encouragement from parents and relatives. I can't tell you how helpful this would have been - to have the President ask the students to take their education seriously and strive for college. Why would you shelter your kid from that? You are doing your child a disservice. My 6th graders used to look me right in the face and tell me that college was only for rich people and they would go only if they could play basketball there. THAT is what we are up against - THAT is the "future" of this country... The U.S. is behind in education - China (those commies) and Japan and just about all of Europe are KICKING OUR HINEYS when it comes to educating children with the basics of science and math - which in turn is training future doctors, scientists, and physicists of this world. We need to put education first and "No child left behind" isn't going to do it.
  4. That is chilling it is so evil. And did you see how he used the lord's name? He thanked God and not Jesus - he must be a Pagan. Let's march and burn down the schools! This communist must be stopped! He is trying to brainwash children into going to college and studying! When will the madness end???
  5. Some states have laws about what kids can watch on tv in the classroom. If it is on TV, there has to be a lesson plan. His administration is trying to make it easy on the teachers and schools but they can write their own lesson plans if they want. I have seen portions of the available lesson plans (schools are not required to use them) - and they have NOTHING to do with politics at all. I try to stay out of these political discussions but these town hall screamers that are now screaming about the President encouraging kids to stay in school and go to college are just plain insane. He has a target demographic, I would imagine - the inner city schools where kids think that studying is lame and books are for losers. Those kids need school more than anything - talk until you drop Obama and get them to write how they are going to be better citizens - PLEASE!
  6. Hargrove was exactly what a brand new team should play for their first game - a beatable team. Check out the highlights from the game at this link (couple of minutes long)... A pretty full stadium and they are all wearing school colors - we could have an exciting Belt team for the future! http://www.wkrg.com/alabama/article/usa-wi...-2009_11-02-pm/
  7. I think that UL is in for another 41K next week. They host Kansas State and are picked to win by 4. Should be a big crowd on hand and I hope... the first big OOC win for the Belt against an auto-qualifier school this season. It's a good thing that Kansas State looked past their dreadful seat numbers
  8. Hey Rick - y'all looked awesome on TV. I hope that there is a recording around for you to watch. One thing that is tough to tell on TV- SPEED. Were they slow or are we really fast now? I saw guys flying around, out-running, running down guys, etc... It was like watching Tenn and WKY - Tenn just had all the speed... well, from the media room at the Pourhouse (and a few beers) it looked like we had REALLY gotten FAST. What were your observations first hand? Thanks bro, steve
  9. Thanks Rick - jhowell doesn't provide scores for our times in IAA. That is why I specified as a Div I team... but thanks for the post. Of those years, did we ever open up with two wins against IA teams? Here is what Howell has for our time as a non-Div I school (his words, not mine): 1983-1994 - not rated
  10. I know that we still have a game to play but I feel it is a winnable game. Huge kudos to RV for a GREAT schedule. There is a huge gap in scores for our time in purgatory known as IAA, but the last time we were 2-0 to start a season was in 1975 when we started off with Drake and UTA. We went on to a 7-4 record that year including a win against Tennessee. Maybe FFRick or Adler or someone can post if we were ever 2-0 as a IAA school. Exciting times!
  11. That is true - Cajun Field now has cold beer for sale. Just like the Cajun Dome. Their stadium seating is similar to Fouts - they used the grass overflow just like we will.

  13. I am going to guess that a lot of BYU fans were Mormons that live in the area?
  14. Well, considering that their stadium doesn't even have that many seats - I would have to say that is pretty much on the money. They must have had a full grass seating section or something. Way to go UL - glad you won this one! Hopefully those fans will be back for more.
  15. I don't think people understand how much trouble the newspaper business is in right now. It is so bad that the DaMN is tossing free papers in my part of Dallas just so that they can get coupons out for their advertisers. Newspapers live off ads, the cost of the paper doesn't even cover the distribution costs (and doesn't TOUCH the price of putting a paper together). When the country can hop on Yahoo and read the news immediately - why would they wait for tomorrow? When I can read 5 or 5 articles about the Mean Green on the internet - why would I buy a paper or subscribe to the paper? Well, it has always been the Sunday coupons for most people - that and the ads... but more and more advertisers are putting their money elsewhere because they see no return from it. So if you want the Ft Worth paper to cover Mean Green - there had better be a good, solid group of actual newspaper subscribers in your back pocket. Not people that pick up a paper at the Denny's every now and then because those barely break even - but actual subscribers that get the paper tossed on their lawn every day. If you have that - you might get them to listen. Otherwise, they are just trying to keep from shutting down like most papers across the country. If not covering NT football is going to make 50 people mad but save a couple jobs - I think that the paper will keep the jobs. Newspaper men and women barely get paid enough to make a living as it is... I am going to guess that only small time papers are the way of the future. A city like Denton might be just the right size to keep their paper... not on the national scene so local matters will need to be covered by the local paper. The Ft Worth paper will probably continue to retract until it is much like the DRC. BELO can borrow stories from other cities at their other publications and keep their overhead low so the DaMN should be ok for now.
  16. SEC game of the week - another Belt school playing on TV. Western is a full Belt team this year, I hope they don't get killed!
  17. I was at a Big Time Football Watching party last night and the game was NT! I brought my girlfriend and this was her second "Mean Green" experience with her first being the 30 or so people that showed up for our flag football game. Needless to say - she got into it and was clapping along even though she knows nothing about football. It felt GREAT to "high five" posters and friends like RETSO, Big Dawg, SUMG, Silver, Emmitt, Med Pilot, Harry, Zeke, Nightmare, and it was just as great chest bumping and high fiving every other fan and stranger around after a big play or score! It was nice to all put the silly board arguments aside for the night and just be fans of the Mean Green - the one thing that we are all passionate about! Thank you to SUMG for bringing me a new silver Mean Green car emblem, I had one on my Beamer and now Emily has one on her Volvo! The place was packed - and I am not sure that they were ready for that type of turnout. When we got there at 5, the hostess asked which party I was with - I told her that there were probably about 100 of us coming and she said that there was one reservation for 20 in the media room. Our waitress was Waco and she tried her best but was a little overwhelmed - all things considered, she made it through somehow - and a special thank you to Green Nightmare for grabbing Em and I a couple of drinks while she was getting out of the weeds. I had never been to the Pourhouse but I will definitely be back - great food, COLD beer, and a true Mean Green establishment. If you haven't made it over there yet - you are missing out. That place BLEEDS Mean Green.
  18. Is that true? This was a "money" game? I just assumed they would return the trip in a few years. Wow - that sucks for Ball State - wait, that didn't sound right :/
  19. Ball Sack State went 12-2 last year but I get your drift. Let's let him be positive and cocky until he gives us a reason not to - that Swagger and confidence plays a huge role in the outcome of the game.
  20. Ah man, I would love some fresh Kettle Korn! Have to wait for next week I guess P)
  21. I will be there with one first time Mean Greener
  22. Thanks Jeff, make it TWO seats - my girl is coming with me. You take care of that and I will drive to Denton Sound like a deal? Looking forward to it.
  23. Where is everyone watching this game? We are on the Arlington/Dallas line... was thinking of maybe going to Denton but would hate to drive all the way there and not get a seat. Where is everyone going?
  24. ROTFLMAO - it is kinda funny how every single thing above is just something that this board bitched about... but if you look at each thing, nothing has changed - it was just the board knee-jerking. I will take that passion over a dead board without anyone caring at all. I seriously doubt that Coach Dodge opened up a few practices as a result of complaints on the board, but maybe he did. I doubt that Coach hired new coaches because of the board but rather due to learning from his own mistakes. The parking lot rules have not actually changes since last year - and King explained that, but screw it - the BOARD fixed the problem! We have Tight Ends because of the board now. I didn't know that the AD was redesigning the official website until a post on here - but that post wasn't a suggestion, it was the link to the newly launched website. Lots of urban legends up there, next thing you know you will be telling me about death panels and how the Eagle's Next (Formeryly Non UNT Sports) got rid of them from health care reform when they didn't even exist in the first place! AHHAHAHAHAHA!
  25. Did you read the article Alex? There are no lines for IAA games. Plus - like most things on the internet, the fake line was wrong anyway - it was 63. But there is no such thing as a line with a IAA (FCS) team... Vegas has no interest in small time football.
