  1. Was the secretary a man or a woman?
  2. Not exactly. There were a high number of returning starters, especially on defense when TD got here. The "bare cupboard" means there was not that much talent. Yes, we had some nice players like we do today, but overall the talent cupboard is pretty bare. Disagree?
  3. Another reason we CAN'T retain TD is recruiting. It's been dead for 2 years now. If he stays on, make it 3 years. We are a non player on the recruiting trail. One good recruiting class in four is not a recipe for success. Just like the end of the DD era, the cupboard is pretty bare for next year. We are losing too much of the talent we have to graduation. We are right back where we were in 2007. This year was going to be as good as we were going to be for a while. If Dodge had gotten it done, then maybe he could make a splash in recruiting. At least there was a good story to tell (four full classes of his recruits, etc.) Difference makers are not coming to UNT with Dodge at the helm and his record of futility. You can only sell "it's not his fault" for so long. We have some nice players for sure, but our team is not loaded with talent. If we were, we would be winning more ballgames. I know this sounds harsh, but it's true. Unless we make a splash hire who infuses some serious JUCO talent, we are going to struggle to win a game next year. I hope next year is as bad as it ever gets.
  4. This year, with all of the injuries, and on the road.
  5. Remember the lack of attendance when DD was winning? Remember yawning after some SBC victories? Remember finally getting to 100 yards of total offense in the 4th quarter against AQ teams 3rd stringers? Why is our attendance better now after 3 1/2 years of losing under Dodge and we haven't had a winning season since 2005? I think the answer is the exciting brand of football. I said exciting, I also know it is maddening and frustrating so please lay off. I hope we remember these things when we are looking for a new head coach. The hard core fans (anyone reading this) will attend games no matter what, casual fans want to be entertained.
  6. I disagree. Even if we had won, the special teams were so bad for a fourth consecutive year that the many of us see the writing on the wall. This team will lose several games again this year because of special teams. What I saw was an offense and defense that was MUCH better than Rice but we repeatedly gave them good or great field position. If our special teams played at just an average level this team wins 7+ ball games this year easy. I just can't believe Dodge and company haven't sorted out special teams after 4 years. This is the best talent we will have on the field for at least another 3 years. This year was our and Dodge's best chance at a respectible year.
  7. Yes, it was very cool. I guess I am the 130th best Mean Green fan there is.
  8. No, UNTX is not right. The UNT requirements are a MINIMUM requirement at certain % ranks whereas Tech's numbers are ASSURED. Big, big difference people. UNT has selective enrollment where 65% of applicants are admitted where Tech has like 92% admitted. The average SAT score of the UNT and Tech student are exactly the same. Tech admissions UNT admissions Tech does a great job considering where it is but we have caught up and will pass them.
  9. Winning is being a 7-5 team on the year. Losing is a 2-10 or 3-9 squad. Poor management of a program is what this was. There were a few options, like running our version of the wildcat to end the game. Not a great option, but an option. So you have a kid, who wants to be here, who's not an academic risk, who looks more like a Division I QB than I have ever seen suit up for the Mean Green, burn an entire year of eligibility, on one series, in a game we needed a miracle to win, when there was another option. Think of all the recruits we give scholarships to who never make it to campus, get homesick, get injured, don't have Division I talent, don't make their grades, don't really want to be here, get in trouble, etc. etc. That is my anger at "burning the redshirt". I am angry because I was thinking about the long term benefit of the Mean Green, not hoping for some miracle and have 3 wins on the year instead of 2. I just think it is a bad idea for ANY 2-9 team to burn any 'ship the last game of the year, much less this kids.
  10. I don't know about that. That's 2 quality programs lost and not just in football.
  11. Lots of starters back on both sides of the ball. The offense will be loaded and better with the new OC (I hope), the defense has been operating as a lower tier SBC squad and there is nothing yet that tells me they will be any better this year. We needs some guys on D to become difference makers. Our special teams is a big question mark. We have a punter with a big leg but we get punts blocked too often. We have a new freshman kicker so we'll have to see about him, we don't block to well for him either. Special teams has just been bad and it has cost us dearly. All of that being said, we will be better than last year but we need to be a ton better. We have alot of question marks heading into the season. No joke, we could be 7-5 or 2-10.

  15. I can list 4 games that hurt in 2009 alone. 1) Ohio - Well chronicled. I remember thinking many times they just needed to close them out but we never did. 2) ULL - Crazy in the turnover department, stupid penalty late on defense, and a Cajun TD late by a WR we wouldn't look at in the recruiting process (icing on the cake). I had lunch with that kid and his Father this summer - nice family. 3) Army - lost again late but what made this so painful was just how bad I thought the Army squad was. That was the worst team to grace Fouts since Samford. 4) ULM - This one hurt because ULM is a school we "should" ALWAYS beat. Their coach had a good gameplan for us they they soundly whipped us. It finally hit home with me just how far and how bad our program had fallen. They were just better than us.
  16. Clemson - Loss 63-27 Rice - Loss 35-34 Army - Win 31-13 (big time over-achieving really bad football team, they won't win 5 this year) FAU - Loss 24-20 (the curse continues) ULL - Win 34-17 Arky St. - Loss 27-21 FIU - Win 42-20 WKU - Win 63-62 Troy - Loss 34-21 (Troy wins the SBC again) MTSU - Win 24-23 (We're at our best against them when they're so sexy) ULM - Win 18-15 K. State - Loss 27-23 6 and 6.
  17. Rick, my thoughts are with you and your family during this tough time. Patrick

  19. Dickey Ball vs. Dodge Ball Do you remember how painful it was to watch some of those games? I have no doubt a winning squad would put create a significant increase in attendance. Watching Dodge Ball may be frustrating but at least it is exciting.
  20. I see "Check Facts" as one of those conspiracy theory people. Lot's of "facts" but the dots never get connected because he/she is presenting a few trees and never the forest. He/She was WAY off the mark on the stadium currently being constructed.
  21. We will open with Iowa State...maybe.
  22. I think he means the bar has been set pretty low which I agree. He was still an absolute stud at QB. He did what he was asked to do really, really well. If that is not what Rob meant, I would also like to know who he thought was better.
  23. Scott Hall is definately first ballot HOF worthy. He is by far the best QB I have seen in a Mean Green uniform since I started following the program in 1983. He was a GREAT player, great leader, great student, and great ambasador for UNT.
  24. Is your source Lee Jackson?
  25. Texas Tech fan takes notice
