  1. Good read but realignment is not even close to being done. I would be shocked if CUSA retained it's current membership for more than 3 years. When (not if) we lose teams I just hope they are not regional and if they are I hope we backfill with regional. My best guess on what will happen. The ACC stays intact. The SEC stops and the Big XII adds two from the Big East. Boise State and SDSU will find their way back to the MWC. The Big East football and basketball have a divorce and the football side shores up membership from the best available of what if left - Airport Meeting part deaux. The Big East will be the old CUSA. The new CUSA will be interesting hybrid blend that will take the historical WAC place in the pecking order, the SBC will still be the SBC like the MAC will still be the MAC. Order will then be restored - for a little while. The new have nots pecking order: Conference formely known as Big East MWC - without Boise State nothing much else here in football CUSA 3.0 MAC SBC - no offense SBC but you will have more teams moving to CUSA 3.0 to backfill those departing to the Big East WAC - I know they are in hospice but it doesn't feel right to not mention them.
  2. Anybody have an idea on how many total championships we have since joining the SBC? Nevermind, found it. Football - 4 Men's Basketball - 1 Men's Basketball tournaments - 2 Women's Basketball - 2 Women's Soccer - 4 Women's Soccer Tournaments - 2 Men's XX - 1 Mens' Indoor T&F - 0 Men's Outdoor T&F - 2 Men's Golf - 2 Women's XX - 0 Women's Tennis - 1 Womens' Outdoor T&F - 1 W Golf - 0 W swimming and diving - 0 W Indoor T&F - 1 Volleyball - 2 25 total since 2001.
  3. It's either tailgaiting for football or a jazz festival.
  4. It's about time we win one of these. This may be it.
  5. Pedestrain Bridge, Band Day, Rug Rat Roundup, and KFC.
  6. I re-read my earlier post and think I should point this out. The coaches (take it for what it's worth) say TJ is tight with some coaches, just not nearly enough of them.
  7. We zoomed past the MAC, WAC, SBC, and even the MWC when it comes to football prestige. Football is just better in CUSA. It will be a bump in attendance. As much as I enjoyed our time in the belt and wish everyone well in that conference, this is huge for us. We have some serious work to do to get competitve in our new home.
  8. Gotta disagree with you there. In games we've played Rice and Tulsa at Fouts they were well attended by visiting fans and UTEP is supposed to be a big lift. I know our fanbase will respond better too. I think this is a 5,000 bump in our regular attendance. I agree about the eastern teams. No need to expand Apogee just yet.
  9. http://blog.mysanantonio.com/the-local-scene/2012/04/sun-belt-expected-to-add-texas-state-ut-arlington/ Congrats to the Mavericks.
  10. Campbell, I hear the same things.I follow the sport because my niece is a softball pitcher and yes, most pitchers are committed sometime in their freshman year. I speak on regular occasion with a former player (shockingly she was recruited from out of state) and she tells me the girls apparently really like him. But... I have talked to a few coaches, players parents etc. and they all say he doesn't like local talent for some reason. A few coaches of highly regarded programs that send players to places like Baylor, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and UL-Lafayette can't get him out to see their players and have trouble developing a relationship with him. In fact, they will go on and on and on about it. They tell me that they know of girls that went to top 25 programs that would have loved to play at UNT. They never got a look. Just like FB and BB this is the recruiting hotbed of the country. Makes no sense to me. I think I know how the recruiting game is played with these coaches and I think TJ is making a mistake with the local scene. The coaches I speak with don't like him and I think this is due to TJ ignoring them. I think we could be a dominant program just like soccer.
  11. I know he has improved the hell out of the team. It was a complete train wreck when he took over. But is fighting for a .500 record the last week of the season going to keep him safe?
  12. I would like to see some opinions on this. Sure, he has been better than what we have had but we are no longer a new program. The softball field was needed but my guess it is the most "needy" of our otherwise great facilities. It seems being in a position to win championships is the new standard around here and the softball squad is fighting for a .500 record this year. I don't think this guy is safe.
  13. I checked out their commissioner cup standings or whatever they call it for the Southland. They seem to do pretty well every year. Put me in the camp that think this is good for us.
  14. Uh, they have none.
  15. I guess I should have finished - improvement in travel and regionalism. I didn't mean from a competitive stand point. Carry on.
  16. They were in the WAC. Some of their more seasoned fans remember what an improvement it was to move to CUSA.
  17. The big question is whether CUSA and the MWC are working together with good intentions. I have heard Thompson is not to be trusted. I have said all along this thing might not end up exactly as we had hoped. I can see us in CUSA with no UTEP or Tulsa. I can also see us ending up in the MWC. Man, this stuff is crazy. I can't blame Tulsa fans for not being happy. We just need about 5 years with these guys in a conference to show them we are actually a better replacement than SMU was as a conference partner. Our BB program is light years better and the pieces are in place to finally getting the FB prgram up to speed. In their time in CUSA, SMU was a sub par (ok I'll say it, downright crappy) FB and BB partner. Only in the last few years did they turn it around in FB. We need to be positioning ourselves for the next "airport meeting" and I think we are. I think the Tulsa relationship is very, very important.
  18. My point was get the best you can. I agree with you on UTSA's facilities.
  19. Because you want to be the best you can be and you never know what the future holds. Would you rather take a team that has no budget, facilities, market, or aspirations?
  20. 1) My general takeaway was that we more resembled a college football team than last years spring game. I was mortified after the game last year. The more physical nature of the team is continuing. The players are bigger and stronger. 2) We are still battling the depth issue. It may be another 2 years before that is resolved. 3) I continue to be impressed by the level of buy in to the coaching staff from the players. They seem so jazzed about getting better every day and taking it to the next level. I think it is going to be very enjoyable to watch the Mean Green progress the next 10 years. Progress will be slow and painful at times but we are definatley headed in the right direction.
  21. 22:54 Possession of Drug Paraphernalia - A UNT police officer initiated a traffic stop, 1000 N. Texas Blvd., Denton. The driver, non-student Johnny Jones M 10/01/79, was in possession of drug paraphernalia. He was issued a citation, released from the scene, and an offense report was completed. I had no idea JJ was so young and I thought he was in Baton Rouge at the time.
  22. Good memories. When Jank was here the entire athletic department was a train wreck. You can't be successful if you aren't given the tools. When Jank was here, the Super Pit had freaking orange chairs. He ended his career 53-57 with us. He deserves better than SMU.
  23. Johnny's Niece "Congrats to my Uncle Johnny Jones for becoming the new head coach for LSU basketball!! So happy!"
  24. I have to give some RV love here. We knew why we were passed over in 2005 and did everything right in the meantime to make sure we weren't passed over again. We have the finances, facilities, geography, and market to ensure our inclusion this time around. We are the strongest and most complete candidate for expansion. Every other candidate has some hurdles to clear.
  25. So true. I'm not a basketball guy so I ask the bb guru's this: Can a player at this level really improve their shooting? If the answer is yes, by how much? I would think by the time a kid gets to college his stroke is his stroke and it isn't going to get much better.
