Scholarship allotment issue - what the what?
GreenFlag replied to Stan R's topic in Mean Green Football
So we only have 3 from Mac's first signing class not around. That is pretty solid. -
True, but DT's under appreciated assets is his deceptive ellusiveness and throwing the ball away instead of focing throws or trying too hard to make the big play. Gotta give DT credit here too.
-
Boys and girls, we will win this game. The MUTS lose when they are negative in the turnover battle. I think we will play Mean Green football and win going away - ground and pound with a few wrinkles, good D, and win the turnover battle.

Sooo are we still against coach Mac's rush heavy offense?
GreenFlag replied to D-ry's topic in Mean Green Football
I suspect you will see the % of rushing attempts go up the rest of the year since we only play SBC teams here on out. Remember last year against the MUTS? We attempted 7 passes and won by the largest margin EVER in a SBC game. That being said, MAC's/Chico's offense is better and has little resemblance to Dickey/Flanagan ball. Dickey ball was just the worst to watch. If we couldn't run on a team it was game over. -
Dru Smith talks about North Texas visit
GreenFlag replied to GreenBat's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Dru's father graduated from North Texas. -
Better than Texas State - San Marcos punching bags.

It will be interesting. With things being equal like performance on the field, weather, etc. I think we see a significant bump - like 20%. We have already seen that Rice and Tulsa bring a decent contingiet to Fouts and the interest of locals gets piqued. An attendance of 21K against conference foe Troy would probably be 25K against conference foe Tulsa. At that point the stadium has a more "packed" feel and the experience is more enjoyable and increases the chances of folks coming back. I think a North Texas/Tulsa matchup in a game that actually mattered would push capacity.
-
I dunno about that. From a few toting the party line in the athletic department maybe but very few fans. I remember some more astute fans (not me) recognizing just how bad it was after the first game against Oklahoma.

Party on the Plaza: UNT and WFAA Channel 8
GreenFlag replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Lived in Kerr, Bruce, and College Inn. #3 Kerr - crazy freshman year, felt very institutional. Hassled by the man (RA's) #2 Bruce - liked the vibe of a hall where many of the residents were from out of state and didn't go home on the weekends. #1 College Inn - absolute dump but lived by myself and never hassled by RA's when I had company. I never saw or met my RA while at College Inn. -
CUSA footprint is not small, but the epicenter is definately SEC/Big XII territory. So the CUSA footprint is of the best two conferences but with a better reputation and schools willing to spend the money. One of our late recruits came from ULM (Trussell) after we had some guys decomit from us for SMU. His father told me it was night and day between the two and the choice to come to North Texas was an easy one. I am happy for the Sun Belt this year after we have been kicked around for so long but tap the breaks a little on conference superiority.

Isn't it some sort of violation to even discuss hockey before we add baseball? C'mon dudes, hockey?
-
It was by far the best "homer" broadcast of a North Texas game I have ever seen. He did a great job.
-
To some - ULM matched up quite well with Razorbacks. Shaky pig defense and program in disarray vs a solid vetran QB and an experienced team. I just don't see K-State as being vulnerable. I hope they are looking past us because they play Oklahoma after us.

Thank you students!

Operation fill up the Wing - part deaux
GreenFlag replied to GreenFlag's topic in Mean Green Football
Someone mentioned that the Wing only seats 5K. I looked at it last night and if you don't count the bowl area at the bottom it's right. It's an optical illusion as it looks HUGE. We only have to get 5K and the thing is full. -
Just get the thing filled - whatever it takes. There are peeps that think giving away tickets to fill that thing somehow devalues the product. In reality our product is devalued by being completely empty. I finally figured out a solution that should keep everyone happy. If it would make people feel better why not have companies "sponsor" this event. Even though the tickets are being given away - someone is paying for it. The AD could sponsor it as well. Quick math - 5,000 tickets for$7 is $35,000. Let someone (anyone who wants to) pay for the rights (advertising) to give away tickets for that area. Those tickets would be distributed through regular means except they are only available Thursday through Saturday at the ticket office and they are available to be picked up at the place of business that bought the package (if they are interested in walk up traffic) the entire week leading up to the game. Once those tickets are gone - they're gone. If you waited to long to get your free ticket you have to pay for one. Give the company a package of radio/TV spots, mentions over the PA and whatever else they can think of to make it sweet enough for a company to purchase this package. The package price could even be some low number but it fills up the wing for a "cost". If all of the suites at Apogee sold for $150,000 - I gotta think we could sell 6 of these packages a year for $35,000. Just fill that Mo-Fo!

Sun Belt sets sights on catching C-USA, Mountain West
GreenFlag replied to Coach Bill Lewis's topic in Mean Green Football
Apples and Oranges. The WAC found itself as the third tier conference in the western US. History has shown a few times that part of the country can only sustain two. They have 3 conferences when they have the highly unstable nature of teams from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana. The MWC is essentially the WAC. The SBC has not passed the MWC. In Texas and the Southestern US, 4 (SEC, CUSA, & SBC plus teams from The Big East, Big XII, and ACC) conferences are easily supported with SEVERAL teams wanting to make the leap into FBS. As many as 6 conferences could be supported. -
Sun Belt sets sights on catching C-USA, Mountain West
GreenFlag replied to Coach Bill Lewis's topic in Mean Green Football
The Sun Belt will never catch CUSA, CUSA will never catch The Big East, The Big East will never catch the ACC, yada, yada, yada. I am so glad we are in CUSA. -
I believe he cheated, but this reeks of vendetta. The judge who dismissed Armstrong's case against the USADA said "(USADA) conduct raises serious questions about whether its real interest in charging Armstrong is to combat doping, or if it is acting according to less noble motives.” The USADA is funded by the US government as well as other entities. This is a huge waste of my taxpayer dollars - please see Kenneth Starr. What did they acomplish besides wasting my money? Do cyclist cheat? Yes. Will cyclist continue to cheat? Yes. Did any of this improve the situation or solve a problem? No. Does this create jobs? No. Does this reform wallstreet? No. Does this improve healthcare? No. Why are my taxpayer dollars funding this witch hunt? Why is a SMU educated attorney funded by me - using those funds to attack a private citizen?

Wrong!

I predicted 5-7 myself and I won't even be pissed if we go 4-8. I am pleased with the direction of the program.

Sed Ellis bumped to 3* by scout
GreenFlag replied to ntmeangreen11's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I liked this recruit for the get go. Tall linebacker with room to grow who can run...and looked good on film. There WILL BE other programs trying to get this kid from us. If they redshirt this kid I can see where he is 225 lbs. before his first game action and a good 240 before his eligibility is up. You can't get enough big kids at their position who can run.
