Sorry, got an Xbox and don't own any sports games currently! I would recommend Halo or Rainbow Six 3! Those are the only 2 I own as I do not have enough time to play any other games. -
I too went to see this movie on Saturday night.... I'm a big hockey fan and while too young to remember the 1980 Olympics (I was 4), I did know a lot about the team and the events going on around that time. As mentioned by others, I knew the outcome, but was very into the last game against the Russians and the end result. Everytime the US scored a goal, several people in theatre would break out clapping and as the buzzer hit zero, most of the crowd, including me clapped in applause! I was on my seat for the last 7 minutes of the game when we had the 4-3 lead! They did a real good job of showing the tension of this moment with a great musical score as the music picked up and added to the drama. The best part was in the last few minutes of the game when the Russian Coach "did not know what to do" as he had won 47 straight games! (Watch the movie and you'll see his crucial mistake in the last 1-2 minutes) Anyways, it was a Great movie for hockey fans and I would say a good movie for non-Hockey fans.

Yeah, I think they have still only won 1 OT game, which I went to BTW! It's good and bad that we do not have more Ties or even some OTL's. It's good in that we have a lot of wins (27), which is the 1st tie breaker come playoff time. However, teams like the Guppies who have 11 Ties and 5 OTL's gain points on us since they did not lose in regulation. So, we have 20 Regulation losses while the gups only have 13, but they have 5 OTL's for a total of 18 losses. It's all confusing to me sometimes! It is good that we do not lose in OT as come playoff time, we will not have a tendency to choke in any OT games! BTW, we do have 27 wins to SJ's 26 and are 4th in the West in wins! -

Oh, I forgot to mention that we are now the ONLY team in the NHL with no OT losses!!!! -

Indeed!!!! My only concern is the LONG rest period for the ALL-Star game will kill their momentum! However, Turco really needs the rest! 8-1-1-0 in our last 10! (8 wins, 1 tie, & 1 loss for the non hockey fans) We are the hottest team in the league! -

That would be GREAT!!!! The Plano schools have always had a big advantage as they can draw from 3,000 upperclassmen while traditional 4 year schools draw from half that number even though their enrollment is similar. For example, Plano has a population of 238,000 and only 3 High Schools, while Garland has a population of 222,000 and 5 High Schools; Garland has 7 High Schools if you count the Sachse and Rowlett schools which draw some Garland kids! So, you can see that the talent is going to be much more dispersed in a "traditional HS system". I was wondering, what other cities use the 2-year Senoir HS system besides Plano? This would also make Highland Park play some better competition, which is good in my book! -
My theory is this: 1. Good looking people have an easier time making money; Just human nature 2. Good looking women tend to have an easier time finding rich husbands; It's the truth! 3. Rich men have an easier time getting hot trophy wives So, this is when genetics come into play as good looking people tend to have good looking kids! It is also easier to be good looking when you have money to blow on plastic surgery, personal trainers and your typical maintenance (Dentist, etc...). Additionally, a lack of overall stress will also keep you youthful and attractive. Thow in the fact that we live in Texas and there you go!

My cousin went to Plano East in 94-95. I will say you can not complain about all those women though! I graduated with 350 peeps..... Less pickens there! -

It's good to see Garland get its own district! I'm also glad to see the Richardson schools leave Plano's district as those Plano schools and their 3k students made up of only upperclassmen had a decided advantage. -
Back in my HS days (90-94) at Garland Naaman Forest, we were 4A and district rivals to HP. My HS was brand spankin new and thus struggled a bit in sports. I remember those HP thugs coming to our stadium via Greyhound buses and their fans bring signs to games saying "Cash beats Trash", etc..... We always were dumbfounded as most of our students were from affluent neighborhoods such as Firewheel, but that's not the point. Anyways, my HS experience playing them has always left a bitter taste in my mouth! So, I get up this morning and read in the DMN that once again HP has managed to stay in 4A, missing the jump to 5A by 3 students! Yes 3 students!!! The article in the DMN talks about how their football coach was quote " Relieved" they were staying in 4A. So while my HS, which took the leap years ago to 5A, and powerhouse teams like Denton Ryan are moving up, Highland Park struggles every year to keep its enrollment low so it can play teams like Forney, Terrell and Wylie. There is also an interesting quote that their FB coach thought their enrollment was higher than they ended up reporting? Cooking the books perhaps? http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dw...t.774a4fb8.html Perhaps I'm a little jaded to dislike this school so much.... Is it the fact they beat us most of the time? Is it that in a brawl that broke out during a basketball game my GF was punched in the face by one of those punks? Perhaps it is the fact they remind me so much of $MU in their "We're better than you attitude"? Last quote about them cowards: I will also miss Denton Ryan in 4A! I loved that 45-21 drubbing they gave the Scots this year in the playoffs!

Oh yeah it was! The puck just kind of turned to the inside after it trickled passed the keeper! Actually, I read they gave the goal to Zubov? It was given to Bill at the game, but apparently the official scorer changed it later. Not really sure why they did that unless they determined that the Ottawa defender that mixed it up with Guerin actually hit it in the net. Regardless, great game and GO STARS!!!!!

Guess the Attendance for Thursday's Game
jgb0607 replied to jgb0607's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I never said I accepted the fact our attendance is subpar in all of our sports (not just BBall). I honestly think it is from a lack of promotion from our AD department. I'm alum so I do not see everything going on at the campus, but from what I hear, there is no real big push for peeps to attend games. I've argued over this many teams in regards to our football team. Anyhow, I just think the BBall team needs to keep winning and the University needs to do some major promoting with flyers, maybe door prizes such as a chance to win tuition with a half court shot, etc, etc....... Oh, and I attended many games in my day 95-99, and most of those years were very lean pickens! Nope, I'm a corporate lackey, so my weekends are free! Oh, believe me I wanted to PLAY in the flag football game, but I have a soccer game at 5PM so, I'm screwed! I probably will not make it to the BBall game for the same reason. -

Indeed, football is King in Texas! I do not see why people are surprised about the numbers? Look at our Football team! They do not get the attendance they deserve even though they are putting a Good quality product on the field! The main issue is no one has any interest in seeing NT play ASU, FIU or any other no name University we play. If we could just get into CUSA (PLEASE) and play SMU, Tulsa, UH, etc than the they will come! (See the Hoosier game) This is the same issue for all of our sports! We just need to play some regional or Nationally recognized teams. And, yes I work till 5 Pm in Plano, so I will not be fighting traffic to get there by 7pm. However, I've made it clear in the past that BBall is not that intriguing to me. Now, if we had a DIV-1A hockey team....... -
It will be interesting to see what happens on Thursday with the team on a roll.
