Column: Men’s basketball wasted a perfectly good season
Mean Green Matt replied to Skipper's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I think the group of people that thought we were actually elite or one of the best 25 teams in the country was very small. We did, however have a chance to boost our profile by getting into the top 25 based on a good record even against weak competition. So from that perspective it was a wasted opportunity. Other than that this team seems to be pretty much what the majority thought it was, especially when the injuries happened. An average CUSA team when the full resume is taken into account. -
Hopefully we are due for a big turnaround when the CUSA tourney starts. This is pretty hard to watch right now.
-
Certainly a concerning trend of late season slumps. I have no idea what happened at Arkansas State. Last year we seemed to run out of gas after a string of close games. Got a couple of players healthy for the CBI and won it. This year losing Duffy and then Woolridge Wasn’t helpful. Most teams in the country would notice a difference losing those contributions. At this point we just need to get healthy and win the CUSA tourney like we did the CBI last year.

Who is Louisiana?
-
More evidence of our painful existence as NT fans. Dominate a ranked team and then immediately lose to Cal Baptist?
-
Oh I’m certainly not going to argue this wasn’t an inconvenient time to lose. I think it was very important (from a getting people back perspective) that we ultimately made somewhat of a game of it.
-
Yes and no. These things don’t happen overnight. The CBI win last year didn’t automatically propel us to 4,000 per game. We are probably going to average in the 3400 to 3500 range this year. Using VERY round numbers that would be 2 years in a row of increasing average attendance by around 30%. Do that two more times and we are basically at 6,000.
-
The crowd was ready to explode a few different times but we missed the shots.
-
We’ve got to win both of this games in Florida to only be one game back going into bonus play. Falling out of the top pod would be a disaster Disappointig to lose in front of the big crowd. At least we made it a game though.
-
Well that half could not have gone much worse. In front of what will probably be announced as. 7,000 crowd.
-
I am so tired of laying an egg in front of huge crowds. The team needs to pull it together and get back in this.

BIG win for the ladies in Bowling Green. 76-67. First ever victory there. Back over .500 at 12-11.

2019 HS - Jalen Jackson - 5'10" PG

Should be 3 unless players leave prior to eligibility being exhausted. Seniors are Miller, Duffy and Arikawe. -
Not exactly. The 5 seed (presumably) starts pod play in a hole on record. Unless the top 5 are all tied on record.
-
@dahbeed always comes on here and acts like WKU can’t play basketball. And WKU usually ends up beating us.
-
They were taken to OT last week against UTSA as well and I believe have won something like 6 of 7. They’re already woken up. Them being tired would be a plus.
-
A Rice win would have been a bonus.
-
Any chance the conference doesn’t have a set format for bonus play and is just going to pick matchups? Surely not, right?
-
WKU needed double OT to bear Rice tonight. Hopefully they’ll be tired Saturday. A win against WKU basically guarantees us a top pod spot.
-
I just don’t understand why the crowds aren’t bigger. Maybe it will just take a little time. The last year of JJ we averaged over 4,000 and didn’t even win 20 games.

One of the better student crowds of the year. Otherwise seems a bit light.
