1) La Tech wasn’t supposed to beat us in Denton last year. No reason we can’t return the favor. 2) If we win this game we are squarely back in the hunt for the CUSA West. La Tech still has @ Marshall and @ UAB. Southern Miss still has UAB, WKU and @ FAU. 3) It’s a very, very easy there and back trip. If you must make it an overnight trip, Shreveport is right there. There’s no excuse for us not to have 1,000 people there.

People need to look at some of the things Kade has said. It’s way beyond normal commit stuff. I’m thrilled he loves North Texas and look forward to seeing him on green.

***Official UTEP vs. UNT Game Thread***
Mean Green Matt replied to letsgiveacheer's topic in Mean Green Football
Wow. Only a 4 Page game thread. -
You know, it is possible that he visits other schools and still likes NT better.

We need UAB to be for real.

One game at a time Plumm. One game at a time.

Agreed. There are actually several quite plausible scenarios that put us in the conference championship game if we can win out. Obviously that is easier said than done,, but the teams ahead of us in the standings have some tough games left, and we can still grab the head-to-head over La Tech and UAB. La Tech still has to play @ Marshall and @ UAB. Southern Miss still hosts UAB and WKU and plays @ FAU. Lots of football left to play.

We need a defensive renaissance, plus: 1) We win the rest of our games to finish 6-2 in conference. 2) Southern Miss to lose two of (UAB, WKU, FAU) 3) UAB to beat La Tech in Birmingham. I think that would put NT, La Tech and UAB all at 6-2 and we would have the tiebreak over both. There is still a pathway. We just have to win.

Well...all we need is to win out and have some other results go our way...right? -
The signs have been there, we should have seen it coming

Is it maybe possible that Seth overachieved his roster wide talent in the first three years with coaching and the help of a few stellar players and that we have just regressed back to the average. Recruiting matters. We seem to have fixed that problem but won’t start to see the results until next year. -

I’m not going to claim to be the tactical football expert that some on here are. So I don’t know. But sometimes coaches have to leave their comfort zone to put guys in a set up that gives them the best chance to succeed. -
Did you tell them the joke was on them because our APR score was going to get us in a bowl game anyway???

Renfro has gone way above and beyond as a commit with things he’s posted on Twitter about leaving a legacy here, and hanging out with other commits. Very much looking forward to seeing Kade in Mean Green uniform. Hopefully some of real fans on Twitter expressed something to that effect.

Ok. I understand the sentiment. I’ve been at this for quite a while too, basically my entire existence. All I’m doing is making a case for why one down year shouldn’t decimate a fan base. We’ve won 9 games two years in a row. Has this season been awful? Absolutely. But the overall trend can still be up even with periodic dips. I don’t believe we should have to rebuild our fan base just because of a down year
-
This is a silly extension of the “we played two bad games the team deserves 5,000 fans” attitude that has been so prevalent on this board recently. Our fan base is incredibly slow to buy in and incredibly quick to bail. We’ve won 9 games two years in a row. No championships, sure. But that’s decent progress. Our recruiting has taken off, but those dividends won’t be seen until at least next year. Is this a disappointing season? Heck yeah it is. I’ve attended every game of it. But this is hardly time to hit the eject button.

***OFFICIAL UNT vs CHARLOTTE FAN IN-GAME DISCUSSION***
Mean Green Matt replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I think it’s obvious that we lost some guys from the defense last year that were going to be hard to immediately replace. Every team goes through that from time to time. But, if we simply don’t have the personnel to play that defensive scheme this year, then my question is why are we playing it. -
Still Something to Play For
Mean Green Matt replied to Mean Green Matt's topic in Mean Green Football
I think 6-6 is still a very legitimate possibility. Whether that will be good enough or not (to get a bowl) I’ve done no research on. -
If that’s the case, that’s on us as a fan base. Almost all teams have bad years.
-
We can’t even get the NCAA to approve legitimate hardship waivers. They’d give us the death penalty for this.
-
A fan base bailing after a down year isn’t exactly the foundation for a strong athletic program.

Very disappointing loss, but this team can still play its way to bowl eligibility. Is that a huge accomplishment ? No. Does it make the season a success? No. But I think we would all feel way better about next year if this team could end this season with some wins. I don’t know if 6-6 will get us a bowl. I wouldn’t be upset if it didn’t. But we aren’t in nothing at all to play for territory yet. We need to stay behind this team.

A brief report from Charlotte
Mean Green Matt replied to letsgiveacheer's topic in Mean Green Football
Well, Kansas State was the first that came to mind but unfortunately there are plenty to choose from... I was actually pretty pleased with the NT fan turnout today. Had a great time (despite the loss).
