Did the San Diego message board say how great it was that he was moving up the food chain to NT? That is the part I find bizarre. Once again, I have no issues with Ryan transferring. Those making the point about him pursuing graduate studies elsewhere are 100% right. In an age where the NCAA does all kinds of things that make people skeptical about the “student-athlete” moniker, this grad transfer rule actually reinforces it.

EDIT: It's North Texas vs. FAU in the final on Sunday at 12pm noon. It is going to be beautiful fall weather. This team deserves nothing less than to be playing in front of a packed house. Not even a conflict with the Cowboys who have the night game on Sunday. Sometimes other sports deserve football forum publicity. Hopefully the mods agree. This weekend is one of those times. Our most successful program (of the last 3 generations), Women’s soccer (the 2-seed) is hosting the conference tournament. The semifinal is tomorrow night at 7pm vs. 3-seed Rice. The final (should we advance tomorrow) will be Sunday at noon against 4-seed Charlotte or 1-seed FAU. This team deserves a packed house Friday night and (hopefully) Sunday afternoon. Will be chilly tomorrow but the weather when we hopefully play Sunday will be beautiful. This is one of the occasions where NT fans should make a plan to show up whether big soccer fans or just NT fans in general. When our teams play these big games in our facility, we need to show up. This team in particular deserves the support GMG!

There were so few people there our entire group walked back and forth each overtime to get closer to the end of the field the game was being played on.

I think she has done an acceptable job from being hired to now. I do certainly believe it is time to take the next step. This loss today is really not a good start to that.

Does it make anyone feel better that MACU is a really, really good NAIA team? Me neither.

We are the 2 seed and playing at home. Winning this is really the only thing that wold be considered success. -

The day has been plagued by weather delays and we have entered another with 40 minutes left in the game. North Texas up 2-1 over UTEP as things currently stand. -
Is it too soon to talk about a Mason Fine Statue at Apogee?

I'm sure this has been mentioned on this board before, but there is a fantastic (really, really fantastic) book written about this by Jeff Miller: The Game Changers: Abner Haynes, Leon King, and the Fall of Major College Football's Color Barrier in Texas. My vote would be for both of them to be honored. -

20th minute - 1-0 NT - Berklee Peters with the goal. Edit: UTEP scores 5 minutes later to tie it up. The miners playing better than a 7 seed so far. Very aggressive. -
I wish Ryan the best. He played his butt off for us and most importantly, he graduated. Not sure what else we could have asked of him. What I have an issue with is the seeming celebration about him "moving up" to Gonzaga. The fact that he left (and I don't blame him for it) in no way flatters us. Edit: Celebration is probably too strong of a word. Maybe "positivity" would be the better one.

Rain Delayed game under way now. This is actually on ESPN+ tonight. Tonight is the quarterfinal against UTEP. The tournament is in Denton. 0-0 a few minutes in. I'll be making a football board about this is we are able to get to the semifinal on Friday. This team deserves the support and the stands should be packed for the (hopefully) game on Friday and (hopefully) game on Sunday.

Uniform combo 11/9

I’d be fine with the storm trooper uni every away game. -
And I complimented the atmosphere. But we have like 200,000 alumni living within an hour or so of the campus. That doesn’t even count our 40,000 students. So yeah, I think we can probably do better.

Conference Standings IF Win Over LaTech
Mean Green Matt replied to Philip Ferguson's topic in Mean Green Football
We don’t HAVE to have UAB beat USM but it would be incredibly helpful. -
LaTech Prediction 11/9...and go!
Mean Green Matt replied to Philip Ferguson's topic in Mean Green Football
They absolutely burst our bubble last year and things have not been quite the same since. I want our team to return the favor. Badly. -
I don’t think that’s anywhere close to an actual butts in seats number. This board is really terrible at estimating crowd size at times. If we are being realistic and every human being in that stadium was put right next to each other with no empty seats, it would only fill about halfway around the stadium, if that. The crowd was lively, but very, very disappointing with regard to size. We can do better.

Conference Standings IF Win Over LaTech
Mean Green Matt replied to Philip Ferguson's topic in Mean Green Football
No. We'd need La Tech to then either lose @ Marshall or @ UAB. We could really use UAB beating USM. That way USM is out of the picture with a loss vs. WKU or @ FAU. Of course that being under the hypothetical that we win out. I believe our simplest path to the championship game is: 1) NT wins out 2) UAB wins out (other than against NT, obviously). OR UAB Loses to La Tech but La Tech loses at Marshall. -
Two hard fought (5-set) wins to go 2-0 this weekend in South Florida. Now 9-2 in conference play. For those interested, the conference tourney is at Rice the same weekend we play football down there.

Alvin “KENWORTH” y:....aka Diesel
Mean Green Matt replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't think the hit caused the fumble on the kickoff. I haven't seen a replay other than what they showed right after on the video board, but it looked like the ball was coming out before any contact was even made. Looked like he lost a handle on the ball and then got rocked before he could regain it. -
What's done is done.
-
I know we have to play these games, but after Alabama-Huntsville I just don't like it.
-
It’s not hard to believe at all that La Tech loses at Marshall and USM loses one of WKU or @ FAU. There is still a lot of football left. Tie breaks may get messy. Depending on who exactly is involved in the tiebreak we may not win it. But IF we win our next 3 games we are right back in the thick of things. Everyone needs to sit their butts back down on the bandwagon and strap in.
-
Not necessarily. If we win out, and USM, La Tech, us and UAB all end with two losses we would win the tiebreak. So in theory we only need to win out and have La Tech and USM lose one more. Of course if, for instance either La Tech or UAB ended with 3 losses Things would be more conplocated. Nevertheless, the answer is a resounding YES, we can still win the west.
