It’s a good atmosphere for sure. The crowd is a bit higher pitched than usual.

I could be wrong but I think regular TV games are only streamed on ESPN3 rather than ESPN+.

Looks like another very disappointing crowd that I am sure some will find a way to rationalize.

The super pit wouldn’t be too big if we supported our teams like a respectable fan base.

We have 40,000 students and 200,000 alumni living within about an hour of campus. We are a little bigger than “average”. And our sights need to be set appropriately.

No, we don’t just “come to grips” with mediocrity.

I bet tickets scanned was somewhere in the 2500 to 2750 range.

I mean, they are 8-4 and likely to be a pod 1 team. And we are clearly having an off night.

I want this to be true. It just isn’t. The ends are almost completely empty. Even the middle premium sections are less than half full. And that’s just the lower bowl. We need to be realistic.

Just to clarify, I am referring to the number of people. Not the atmosphere. The atmosphere is great.

Terrible crowd. Until we decide to support this program as a whole fan base we deserve whatever we get and have no right to complain.

Yes that game was a huge crowd, but it wasn’t organic. There were some huge groups (primarily sitting in the upper level) attending that game as part of a special event.

I believe that game was a hair over 5k.

Yes, but I believe only the final was above 5k. The semi may have been just a hair above it. And then it fell right back down the following year. We need to do a very un-North Texas thing and cash in on this season. It will pay massive dividends down the road.

It really should be in the 6-7k range. Heck, with our numbers we should be selling out every game. But I’m starting to wonder if it’s going to take an NCAA appearance for things to really take off from an attendance perspective. Our fan base takes FOREVER to build and overnight to dismantle.

There was a ton of on campus promotion during the mid to later years of the Johnny Jones era. That and the on court results eventually led to a very respectable and reliable student crowd.

Biggest regular season games in Denton in a long time. We need to take care of business to make sure that next game against WKU is here. Because we are going to have to beat them if we want the auto NIT bid and #1 seed in the tournament.

You take the guaranteed NIT bid all day.

Oh yeah. Plenty of people go back farther than me. My specific NT memories only go back to 1995. But when you look at the measurements of our relevance, there’s really not much. Haven’t been ranked in football or basketball for nearly a combined 100 years. Haven’t beaten a ranked team in football or basketball in nearly a combined 100 years. Haven’t won a postseason NCAA game in ANY sport in that period. I just don’t know how many schools can say that, at least in FBS.

I’m 100% serious about this. We are the most beaten down fan base in division 1 athletics. I love NT. I’ll never root for anyone else. But if there’s anyone who has it worse than us over a 50 year period of on field/court results in major sports I don’t know who that would be.

We better learn from this. We are still in first place with the WKU loss today. But unfortunately we just handed the rest of the conference a massive gift.
