  1. 1-1 at the half. With about 7 minute left there was a crazy collision between Kelsey hodges and a new Mexico player. Both were going for the ball and hodges rocked her. Hodges appeared ok, but did go down. She reentered the game less than a minute later. The NM player appeared to have a concussion. She was replaced with Elizabeth lambert who is yet to pull a ponytail.
  2. UNT GOAL!!! 15th minute. Michelle Young bent it in the near post through traffic from the corner of the box. Great Goal. Game tied 1-1.
  3. New Mexico goal in the seventh minute. Mandy hall tried to stop the cross but she dropped it. UNM tapped the ball into an open net.
  4. Opponent: The New Mexico Fighting Elizabeth Lamberts Kickoff: In about 35 minutes. This will be the first true test of the year for the soccer team, and it will show us where we stand as a team. I'm about to head over to the field. I'll post updates for goals, and if anything peculiar happens. Go Mean Green! Beat the Lobos!
  5. The line right now (according to my ESPN app) is Clemson by 27. With where I think our team is, I would bet on UNT, even without the green kool-aid. Clemson is good, but like a lot of people have said, this opener is not OU or Texas. We have a real shot to give them a run for their money, or at least cause the Clemson fans that took the tigers on the spread to lose their money.
  6. You are right that the conditions were the same for both teams, I would contend though, much like the SHSU coach, that when conditions get like that, it takes much of the skill out of it. The problem is, like you said, we are unproven against good competition. Come Sunday we will find out what kind of team we really have. Go Mean Green!
  7. North Texas lost 1-0 in what looked like an absolute monsoon (eerily similar to the prarie view a&m game at home last year) . The picture on MeanGreenSports.com makes it look as though there were puddles all over the field. Field conditions like that really level the playing field in soccer, and give inferior teams a chance. Everything I can see points to this being a Mean Green win under normal conditions. This is a pretty disappointing loss, but we have a chance to redeem ourselves Sunday against a good New Mexico team. This quote from the SHSU Coach says it all, "With the field conditions, this wasn't a game of skill. It was strictly perseverance." Here is a link to a picture of the field conditions, and where I think they will be adding the game article when it is written: Mean Green Sports IF YOU CAN MAKE IT OUT SUNDAY PLEASE COME. These girls could really use a good home crowd.
  8. 20 hours and 40 minutes!!

  9. The game starts at 7pm. I don't believe SHSU has live stats, so hopefully they will keep the "Mean Green Soccer" facebook page updated. I almost made the trip down there, it just didn't work out. Anyways, the bearkats are 0-4 on the year, including a 6-0 loss to TCU. This should be another win for the Mean Green. Hopefully they save some energy for the Sunday game against the New Mexico Lobos/Ponytail Pullers.
  10. UNT soccer wins 2-0! Still undefeated!
  11. North Texas is currently up 2-0 on JSU in the 83rd minute. It took UNT 69 minutes to break through. Ellen Scarfone scored the goal, then three minutes later Alicia Reyes tallied the second!
  12. Carrollton Prince of Peace vs. Texas School of the Deaf Prince of Peace takes the win 31-14.
  13. Way to go Mean Green! Thanks for the update Flyer! I'm watching Randy Rogers at the north Texas state fair so I did not know the final until you posted. We took care of business tonight. Hodges has STAR written all over her!
  14. Luckily, I got to ride the bus, but we were packed in like sardines...
  15. UNT is up 2-0 on Prairie View A&M at the half. The game is currently delayed due to lightning...UNT has goals from freshman Kelsey Hodges (13th minute) and junior Julie Lackey (21st minute), the fourth goal of the season for both of them. Lackey is the current SBC player of the week for soccer.
  16. Campus was the busiest I had ever seen it on Thursday.
  17. Prince of Peace Christian vs. Texas School of the Deaf. Probably the best chance we have to win a game this year, and I'm honestly not expecting it to happen. Nevertheless, Go Eagles!
  18. I have always believed it was plural as well...
  19. You are right. I was just going off a number someone in housing told me awhile back. Looks like our actual percentage is in between 21% and 22%.
  20. I went to CollegeBoard.com to get the "commuter school" numbers for UNT and Louisiana Technical Institute... 83% of UNT first year students live on campus. It also says that 16% of all undergraduates live on campus, which is an old number. Using 7,000 as our approximate dorm capacity, just under 25% of all undergraduates live on campus. The first year number for Louisiana Tech is not provided, which is unfortunate because that is the only number that really matters. The disparity in the two percentages for UNT is caused by the very significant number of students that move to off campus student apartment complexes after their freshman year. Keep in mind, the farthest of these is only a couple miles away, and all have UNT bus stops. It does say that Louisiana Tech has 33% of all undergraduates living on campus. In the booming metropolis that is Ruston (pronounced rusting), Louisiana though, I imagine they do not have the number of high quality, nearby off campus options that we do, leaving living on campus as the best option available. Edit: GrandGreen's post above also helps explain these numbers.
  21. When people say we are a commuter school they are being ignorant beyond belief. We have around 7,000 students living ON campus. Take away the graduate students, and that is about 25% of the student body. New dorms are being planned, and are on the way, as the current ones are filled to capacity. There are 7-8 MASSIVE student apartment complexes within 0-2 miles of campus, and ALL of these are served by the UNT bus system, so these students really are not even commuters. There are also an even greater number of medium and small complexes. Also, students are a MAJOR player in the house rental business in Denton. We do not have to sugar coat the numbers, we simply are NOT a commuter school anymore.
  22. The actual name of the event is the Hotel Encanto Aggie Classic. Live Stats for the games can be found on the NMSU website, as well as the JSU website for the Sunday game. UNT sits at 2-0-0 heading into the weekend. We do not actually play New Mexico State this weekend, who of the 3 other teams at the tourney would likely be the toughest test. Instead we play... Prairie View A&M (Friday Night): The Panthers are 0-1-1 on the year, including a 0-0 tie against Nichols State, and a 4-1 Loss to Texas-San Antonio. They are a scrappy team though. If anyone was at the game last year at UNT soccer field (a 1-0 loss for the Mean Green in the pouring rain before the football game vs. Ohio) you know this. We out shot them and out played them, but did not come away with the win. This year though the Mean Green should take the Win. Jacksonville State (Sunday Afternoon): The gamecocks are winless on the year, with losses to Kennesaw State, and Gardner-Webb. They did take Georgia State to overtime, but lost that one as well. That means JSU is 0-3-0 on the year, with all losses coming to teams that are far from power houses. If all goes as it should this weekend, UNT should sit at 4-0-0 when it is over. After that it is Friday night at Sam Houston State, and then a very exciting game Sunday against New Mexico back home at the Mean Green Soccer field!
  23. I will preface this by saying that the Super Pit is the only sun belt arena I have been to, but I have read a very good amount about all of the other facilities in the Sun Belt (mostly from the official websites of each school). With that being said, there are only five facilities in the belt that the super pit cannot compete with as far as amenities and overall niceness go. These are Western Kentucky (Diddle), Denver (Magness), UALR (Jack Stephens Center), South Alabama (Mitchell Center), and Lousiana-Lafeyette (Cajundome). The Super Pit is a great arena, but lacks the extra amenities that these arenas have (club seats, suites, etc). This leaves us sitting at #6. As an overall venue we move up the list. The amenities are not all that matters. Size of the arena is very important. Diddle Arena at WKU is big enough to not be a negative, the Jack Stephens Center at UALR only seats 5,600 though. Although this size works well for them, I believe this moves the super pit up 1 on the list. Lastly, I believe atmosphere should be an important part of the ranking. I think that moves us past ULL, USA, and Denver, leaving us at #2 behind Western Kentucky. So....overall "niceness" I think we sit NO LOWER than #6. As far as the overall ranking for the venue as a whole, I think we have to be #2 behind WKU. Fill the Super Pit and we move to #1.
  24. we will average whatever the actual capacity turns out to be....especially after a bowl win this year!
  25. Smash: The press box and our "suites" Souvenir: A couple seats, a piece of the field, or one of those big backlit posters they have hanging on the ramps up to the seats (preferably one that doesn't have Darrel Dickey in it). First Memory: I have bits and pieces before this, but the true first memory of mine at Fouts was in 1994 or 1995 when we played Oregon State. I was only 5 or 6 years old depending on the year. UNT made a late comeback to win the game. I don't remember the quarterbacks name, but the receiver that caught the winning touchdown was Troy Redwine. I still have the game program at my parents house.
