Tyrone Nix will be a good choice if all the candidates that are proven HEAD coaches fall through. He may be a good coach, but if there was ever a time to minimize as much risk and uncertainty as possible when hiring a head coach...this is it.

Phil Bennett? Really? What exactly is the nutty thought process behind that suggestion? Can we please stay away from people that got fired for bad performance, and stick to people that are either great head coaches at a lower level, or coaches that got fired for either locking Craig James' son in a closet, or ONE TIME hitting a player.

Great News! I love Hot Springs. I was worried they were going to move it somehwere that unfairly benefitted the fans from WKU and MTSU. This almost makes up for Wright Waters' utter inability to properly seed the basketball tournament...almost.

Updated Standings! Denver has clinched the regular season title, and #1 seed. These stadings are updated through the tonight's action (10/21). North Texas disappointingly tied with UALR 1-1. We should have picked up a win tonight. The good news is that WKU lost to Troy, so we moved up to 3rd place. It is of the utmost importance to be on the other side of the tourney bracket from Denver, and right now we are doing just that. Two games left for each team. The teams in green moved up in the standings. The teams in red moved down in the standings. The crossed out team is eliminated from postseason contention. I agree with you that getting the students there is a good idea, I just said it was going to be hard for lots of fans to get to it. I actually forgot about the bball game after the Navy football game. Good point.

Outside of the couple to several thousand Denton ISD students there, I will guess around 1,000. Since this one is on a Friday, unlike last year there should be a better student crowd. For the record, I am being optimistic.

Riley has sacrificed his body over and over for this university, and gotten injured every season he has played, but he keeps coming back. He played 3 quarters with a broken wrist and almost brought us back for a victory. He always talks up the university, and just like his dad is a class act. I am thrilled he has decided to play for the next two years, and look forward to watching him. And like many others, I welcome Dodge back into the stands to watch Riley, and hope he is received with the same class that he has showed all of us.

RV said that he expects Mike Canales to apply for the job. He reiterated that this is a NATIONAL search, and they are looking for coaches with a PROVEN RECORD, whether they are currently in the business or not, or a highly successful assistant. He wants a coach that will be involved in the community and visible to people, and involved in everyday life in Denton with alumni, Mean Green Club, and just residents in general. That might explain why he does not want Leach.

Canales is the Interim HC. RV just said that this is not a tryout for Canales, but if he wishes to apply, he will be a candidate along with the rest. Sounds like Dodge is out of the program completely.

RV also mentioned there are some clauses in TD's contract that could shield the university some financially. When asked if he would hire a HS coach again, he said "I never say never," and then said, "but I can tell you right now that this hire will not come from the High School ranks."

As far as the expansion, we can expand it as far as we need to if we have the money. There are ways to pretty easily expand that stadium to 70,000 should we ever need it, you just keep building. Many of the high capacity stadiums today have been expanded over and over again. I wanted the stadium to at least be a little bigger as well, but it does not matter unless we consistently fill it at whichever low 30k number we end up with. The 2,000 seat difference between us and smu is irrelevant.

I saw an interview with Chuck Greenberg, and he said (paraphrased) that he was ready for a battle over Cliff Lee...The Rangers are not just going to let him walk out the door. Apparently the Yankees are very interested in him. That is all I know, I am not a "real baseball guy."
