Breelan Chancellor Run On Sportsnation
Mean Green Matt replied to Mean Green Matt's topic in Mean Green Football
Whoops, I thought it was the bengals to begin with, then changed the mascot to the Browns and forgot to change the city to Cleveland. Touche. Peyton Hillis may be impressive, but his was a 5-yard touchdown run. He did run over a guy, but the stiff arm from Brelan was just as impressive. Balls not busted. -
You could do it very cheaply....maybe make it $5-$10 per season to join the student MGC. That would be enough to break even on a T-shirt or something that athletics may give out for joining. Something like that may increase perceived value just enough to get a bunch more students out, and be budget neutral at the same time. I'm not saying it would work, but it may be worth a try.

Question For Lurking Isu Fans
Mean Green Matt replied to Texas Stranger's topic in Mean Green Football
We were the school that ripped off the Southlake Carroll jerseys...at least we would move that up to the college just like we have our coaching. I am not a huge fan of the Oregon jerseys though. -
They were comparing great plays from the NFL and College. Chancellors run went up against a TD run by some Browns RB. The Cincinatti run was not nearly as impressive but won with 76% of the vote. They were very positive about the North Texas play though. Good to see that run is still getting us publicity 4-5 days later! Edit: by the way, Sportsnation is the daily 3:00 show on ESPN2.

So it would be like a state championship....? Todd Dodge knows how to win those...

Mccarney, Canales Good Combo For Unt
Mean Green Matt replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
The NT Daily editorial board also thought TD should not have been fired mid-season. Todd Dodge Deserved Better -
There were a decent amount of students at the game in Arlington...should have been more though. I don't live on campus anymore, so I don't know what kind of promotional stuff the Athletic Department does to get students out to the game, but I can't see how this team is a hard sell. If they start in the dorms, and KEEP people interested, they will still come to the games even when they live off campus. The only time I remember the athletics marketing going 100% to promote a game was Ok. State in 2007. I have one the big game posters they put all over the sidewalkes framed and hanging in my living room with the NT daily headline and a ticket. So I know they can do it.

This pretty much hits the nail on the head. The students (me included) have ZERO room to complain at this point. Last night I sat with my parents in their season tickets (which are in the first 10 rows ), and the student section sounded awesome. If there were 5,000 students at every game, it would grab so much attention and cause so much impact, that surely the athletic department would search for a way to please all parties. Most student sections I have seen either encompass both endzones, or the arena is built so that seats above the students along the sidelines are raised so there is no vision blocked even with the students standing.
-
The University can't give up the revenue from those ticket sales...and yes more of those tickets are actually sold than people think. The Super Pit isn't really built to handle that type of student section, because the people behind the students would have to stand the whole game. I would not mind if they donated the next section over to the pit crew, to completely engulf behind the opponent bench, or (when we really start packing the place) split the pit crew and have half of them on the other end of the court to urge on the defense during the first half.

Some of us do....I remember ya'll with the Tiki back when I was high school or middle school. Can't really recall how many years ago it was.

The attendance for the Rice game was just under 3,500. There is no way there were almost 1,000 less people there last night. The student crowd was the same size if not bigger than it was at the Rice game. There were less people in the non-student sections, but a lot of those seats get counted either way because they are season tickets. I think they do have an issue scanning all the ID's of the students. Someone told me that at the Tech game they were just waving people through for a bit and not scanning anything.
-
Let's be fair...they have about 45.
-
I was thinking just under 3,500. The crowd tonight was just about the same size as the crowd for rice...weird.

Thankfully UNT will come to the rescue with an out of conference win!

I don't necessarily mean a brand new arena. It could happen, but it would take lots of donations. I just think to stay competitive in recruiting and facilities, it needs to add some extra amenities, like the adding of luxury suites, maybe a basketball version of the club level, getting rid of those gosh darn press rows that take up premium seating...stuff like that. I love the super pit, I just think it needs a little more work than a couple new scoreboards and a paint job. I may be wrong. Duke seems to get by with Cameron Indoor, but then again they are Duke. By the way, it is funny you mention the Galen Center. I have seen pictures of that in the past and thought it looked like an amazing facility. I'm thrilled you think the Super Pit is on that level.
-
Its capacity is over 10,000. Different numbers are thrown around. I think the official is 10,040, although on the basketball program it says 10,500. I'm not sure how old you are, but in the next 10 years I think we will see a new arena, or at least a completely redone super pit, with things like luxury suites added. The Pit is a great venue, but lacks some "extras" like suites that even a couple Sun Belt arenas have. Diddle (WKU) and the Mitchell Center (USA) come to mind as venues with those "extras."

Mccarney's realm of influence must be much greater than we though if basketball recruits are decomitting...

That is not nearly as gay as MTSU's mascot..... -
TCU basketball will get a lot better because of their new conference affilitation, but that DOES NOT mean that our program is going to go downhill because of it. At the end of the day, they are just 1 team. Are they going to take players from us in the future? Probably. Are we going to get players that have TCU offers in the future as well? Probably. You could copy/paste UNC into Ft. Worth and it would not destroy our basketball program.
-
Not a fair comparison. UNT does not have the big alumni base in Kansas that K-State does in Dallas. Every single K-State fan I talked to, and I talked to a decent amount, all head to drive 1 hour or less to get to the game. Also, if that game had been anytime except for Thanksgiving Weekend, the student section would have been packed with green, and overflowing into the endzone. To answer the question though, I would say there were maybe 100-200 UNT fans in Manhattan two years ago. I may be off on my estimate though.
-
After the baseball program gets going, a new basketball facility may be the next project. The Super Pit is awesome, and it would be smart to keep it for the women's team, but for the program to get where we want it to, a new arena sure would help. It would be super expensive though.

Win football games....that is basically how they did it.

A Source: Sro At Our New Stadium: 35,000 ! ! !
Mean Green Matt replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
If that is true, I imagine the permanent seat total will be somewhere around 32-33k. I can't see room for many more than a couple thousand standing room only seats. Regardless, If we can get 35,000 in there for a game I am happy. -
I really, REALLY hope you are right.
