  1. This would be a great chance for UNT to just give him the money he wants and tell Indiana to shove it. The way that Vito reported it made it sound like he had signed something, so we should have a chance to at least convince him to stay. The only problem would be the politics involved if that took his salary over the top of Canales, which is probably already finalized.
  2. If it gets to the point where the crowds are overflowing consistently, they may have to start playing in the Super Pit. I know the WKU vball team plays in Diddle. The Snake Pit would be a much better option if they could fix it up enough. They would need to put some pull out bleachers back in on the lower level, and do something about the sound system (if anything can be done). If they could pull that off, the snake pit would be perfect. The only other thing that could be done would be to just build a whole new facility over there. Salvaging some of what is already there, you could probably build a 2,000 seat version of what we have now for a couple million.
  3. The biggest facepalm punt scenario I can remember was against Army a couple years ago. It was near the end of the game, something like 10 or 11 seconds left, and we put 11 guys forward to try and block the kick. We didn't. The ball landed somewhere around the opposite 40 yard line, and just sat there as the last seconds ticked away. Probably would have been smart to have someone back there to at least fair catch the ball to give us a chance at the hail mary... That is in the past though. If this hire goes through, we have TWO guys that can coach up the special teams unit! Things are looking up!.
  4. I am pretty sure that any one of those meaningless bowl games would have meant a hell of a lot to us if we had made one. I would have even taken an invite to the Beef O' Brady bowl in a millisecond.
  5. I don't think Mccarney is going anywhere, but if he does, how much would UNT get from Florida for buying out his contract? Vito needs to get on that and file a freedom of information act request.
  6. This keeps getting better and better! Football season is way too far away.
  7. We are the only team from the Sun Belt with football that does not also have a baseball team. Almost all of those schools have less money than we do.
  8. You are right, Ben did not lose us the game tonight at all. What I am saying though is that if we could plug a different player into that spot, and have them contribute rather than well...not; the whole dynamic of the team would change. We just need one more guy to step up, and if it turns out to be Ben, I will be thrilled, because he is a good guy and works his butt off.
  9. I feel like we are 1 player short of having a pretty good team. We need someone to replace Knox for the minutes he is playing. He just can't do it now, and it is not likely that he will be able to in the future. I am still, and will always pull for him, we just can't afford to have him on the court right now. On top of that, he is taking up a scholaship.
  10. This took the night from being significantly awful to just moderately awful. Hopefully this will help the team get some momentum going.
  11. Anybody else having problems with the feed? The womens game is working just fine, but the men's game won't load...
  12. That would require SMU to grow a pair....which is not likely in the near future.
  13. Right now the teams are "not well connected," so the beginning ratings for the teams are still influencing the overall sagarin rating. Forgot to put that in the original post. They will become more accurate as the season goes on because the statistical sample size will grow. They always seem a little off to me, but once the teams are connected they will be out of "BS" territory.
  14. Their rushing defense would have been even better if they hadn't had to play against Lance Dunbar.
  15. I tried to get a white out going a couple years ago through RHA (Residence Hall Association), which is part UNT housing. I wanted to get athletics on board to help out so I contacted them. I was told by Paul Batchelder, the UNT Associate AD for Marketing, that every game was a "green out" but "thanks for my creativity and passion." (and yes, he meant it condescendingly) Batchelder then contacted the head of RHA and I was told to stop my efforts, even though RHA had previously approved it. I would love a white out, but some inside the Athletic Department are not fond of it....
  16. It is true that we have not had the strongest schedule, but regardless, the Sagarin ratings are BS.
  17. So far, our entire staff has BCS coaching experience! This is soooo different than last time.
  18. I played at Mack Park for a couple games in High School. It really isn't even that great as a High School facility. Also, nothing against the UNT softball facility, but the baseball version of that is not going to cut it either. I honestly think we need to look at the Baylor baseball stadium and make that our goal. Yes, it is going to cost lots of money, but someone pointed out earlier in this thread that a corporate sponsorship for the football stadium opens up a good deal of money that could be used for a baseball facility. Hopefully the baseball domino will fall quickly so we can move on the men's soccer and men's tennis.
  19. If this is true, I like this hire. It sounds like WKU got Bowen under almost the same circumstances that helped us pull in Canales. Mccarney must have just straight up gone in and stolen him away from western.
  20. So....we either... 1. Hired a WKU defensive coodinator 2. Hired a Kansas defensive coordinator OR 3. Dan Mccarney coaches for Western Kentucky now... Looks like #2 is the answer...Kansas Athletics. I hope it is at least.
  21. The professors may enjoy the free ticket idea. They are not as anti-athletics as some people think. When I was an undergrad last year in the College of Business, I had two or three professors talk up UNT athletics and try and get people excited. I have seen all of those professors at UNT athletics. Some of the deans even come out to the basketball games. For the Grambling game, I know for sure the dean of the Honors College, and the Asssistant Dean of the College of Business were there. At the very least its a start to have people high up in the academia portion of UNT out at the events and supporting Athletics. That group is likely going to be the most difficult to convince to care. Giving away free tickets may be just the thing to sway those on the fence to come out to a game.
  22. Western Kentucky vs. Bowling Green is on TV on FCSC, which I assume is Fox College Sports Central. It is Charter channel 282.
  23. The game is currently not listed as "premium." The women's home game tonight vs. SHSU is listed as premium, but the men's away game is not.
  24. So, if Houston is FOR SURE our first game in the stadium, which I'm pretty sure it is, we either have a bye in week 1 or an away conference game to start the year like in 2005. Interesting.
  25. Here is a visual representation of how I think Fouts should be demolished...imagine all the allusions we could make to conference realignment if we destroyed our old stadium with falling dominoes.
