  1. It has been discussed on here a couple times that Tony Mitchell is not a moron. He is a smart kid that was victim to some bad advice, and ended up in some bad circumstances as far as school went. I'm not shocked that he has a good GPA, and this is good news for both Tony personally and NT Basketball. He may be taking some easy classes, but so are bunch of other freshmen.
  2. I think if you add Tony Mitchell (who is basically coming in as a Freshman) and Roger Franklin, plus our TBD scholarship, our class is probably a little better. They do have a great class though, and there are going to be some awesome battles over the next four years. I just hope we get to see one in Denton one of these days...
  3. For what it's worth, we don't know where Tony was on their wish list. He was the #12 player in the class of 2010 with previous USA U-18 experience. Not saying he didn't get an invite because others turned it down, because obviously I don't know...but I would love to know the order their invites went out.
  4. The outdoor track and field just finished. I have not actually plugged the numbers into my spreadsheet yet, but a very disappointing performance for the men (picked 2nd finished 8th) appears to have sealed our fate for fourth place, which is a step down from last year. ASU is the team to pass us. This can be blamed on several things. Even though we made the tournament title game for mens basketball, we only received 6 points for it...ASU and ULL and FAU (who all were eliminated in the first game they played) both received 11 points because they won or tied for their divisions. UALR only got 3 points and they won the whole thing. Despite my effort, I have yet to truly figure out how they calculate points for men's and women's basketball...all I know is that it is some combination between divisional and tournament finish. Also, performances that were not only disappointing, but unexpected from softball and men's track did us in. Plus, we could have used more than 1.5 points from women's basketball. Also, fielding a baseball team would help enormously. I'm just rambling now... The good news is that the Bubus Cup really isn't a big deal, it is just pretty fun to follow. 6. This will be his second opportunity for a Gold Medal (if he makes the final 12). Tony already has a gold medal with the USA U-18 Team. The really cool thing is (like MeanGreenTexan pointed out in his checklist) that it isn't out of the realmn of possibility that he could be playing in the 2016 olympics. My two favorite things, UNT and the USA have officially combined!
  7. Here is the complete roster: USA Basketball Article Keith Appling (Michigan State/Detroit, Mich.) Melsahn Basabe (Iowa/Glen Cove, N.Y.) Brad Beal (Chaminade College Prep/St. Louis, Mo.) James Bell (Villanova/Orlando, Fla.) Anthony Brown (Stanford/Huntington Beach, Calif.) Trevor Cooney (Sanford School/Wilmington, Del.) Allen Crabbe (California/Los Angeles, Calif.) Tim Hardaway, Jr. (Michigan/Miami, Fla Joe Jackson (Memphis/Memphis, Tenn.) Jeremy Lamb (Connecticut/Norcross, Ga.) Meyers Leonard (Illinois/Robinson, Ill.) Doug McDermott (Creighton/ Ames, Iowa) Travis McKie (Wake Forest/Richmond, Va.) Tony Mitchell (North Texas/Dallas, Texas) Richard Solomon (California/Los Angeles, Calif.) Josiah Turner (Quality Education Academy/ Sacramento, Calif.) Patric Young (Florida/Jacksonville, Fla.).
  8. Pretty cool to get the chance to represent the USA (he also did at the U-18 level) and a real testament to his skill. 12 of the 17 players invited will make the U-19 world championship team for the tournament this summer. This could be a great opportunity for him to get sharp again before December. Mean Green Sports P.S. - I wish the board would let USA and UNT be capitalized in topic titles... 10. Jesuit is always looking for the next step up...They already play in UIL.
  11. Yep, utsa is already big time with that 11:30am Saturday time slot.... I'm pretty sure Mean Green Insider was shown through basketball season on the few networks it is shown on.
  12. Sounds like Benson has a lot of animosity towards the Sun Belt after all the schools he asked to join the WAC kept saying no to him over and over again... Seattle, Utah Valley, and Lamar all make the WAC even more of a joke. UTA would actually be a very good choice for them.
  13. These numbers are through softball, and should be correct unless the SBC decides to abruptly change the rules of the Bubas Cup: Middle Tennessee - 112.5 North Texas - 92 Arkansas State - 87 Western Kentucky - 85.5 Florida International - 81 Denver - 80 Florida Atlantic - 71 Louisiana-Lafeyette - 70.5 South Alabama - 65 Troy - 57.5 Arkansas Little-Rock - 57 Louisiana-Monroe - 51 If North Texas can stay up 5 on ASU through outdoor track and field, and only lose a couple points to WKU, we should be able to hold on to second place even without a baseball team. Softball finishing in last place really hurts, and just finishing where they were picked to could have given us enough breathing room to basically clinch second. Click here to view the article

  15. My take is that "rub some green on it" is a UNT spin on the common phrase "rub some dirt on it". Rub some dirt on it is defined by UrbanDictionary.com as: To suck it up or man up in any kind of situation. Definition Link The phrase is commonly used in sports, and was popularized by a Peyton Manning MasterCard commercial seen below (the use of the phrase occurs at the :11 mark): I think it makes sense, and the UNT Athletics graphic design people made a pretty cool logo out of it.
  16. Jasmine Godbolt is listed at 6'0. She has been doing alright. I think the skill of the players is much more important than the height in women's basketball. There are no Brittany Griners (6'8) in the league.
  17. According to Vito, Braylah Blakely is indeed coming to North Texas: Mean Green Blog
  18. Do you know something we don't know...
  19. That's how it always goes, and I know what you mean...in the case though, I don't think their legacy will ever be washed away. They were the foundation, and all of the success we will have in the future will be built upon them working their butts off and playing their hearts out for four years. If it weren't for them, we wouldn't have the recruiting class we have coming in next year. It is still sad that we won't get to see them playing in the super pit anymore.
  20. Sounds like the team had a close call with the weather: Mean Green Sports
  21. Fixed it for ya.
  22. I wouldn't complain if UNT was stacked with 4-star recruits...
  23. Daring cross-forum reference from the Eagle's Nest. Nice.
  24. We must not be very good at war anymore, because the current 3 wars are bankrupting us...the federal government at least. We could solve a lot by just taking oil from Iraq...
  25. 1. MTSU - 110.5 2. UNT - 91 3. ASU - 87 4. WKU - 82.5 5. Denver - 80 6. FIU - 74.5 7. FAU - 63 8. ULL - 61.5 9. USA - 58.5 10. UALR - 57 11. Troy - 52.5 12. ULM - 47 Bubas Cup PDF: Sun Belt Website I have tried and tried to figure out their formula for the basketball points, but have been unsuccessful. UNT only got 6 points for MBB, and UALR got 3. EDIT: We do have a shot at holding on to 2nd this year! I'll post my reasoning in a bit.
