Interesting comments from USA defender Omar Gonzalez: "I'm really excited," Gonzalez told reporters on Monday. "I still have maybe half of my family that lives in Monterrey, Mexico, and I have a lot of ties here and I'm very proud to be Mexican and to be able to play against Mexico in Azteca is going to be something really special for me. I can't wait for it. I'm going to have a lot of fun with it. "I'm playing for the US and that's what I always wanted to do," he continued. "But the feeling I feel of being Mexican and playing in Azteca is really hard to put into words. It's really a special time for me." I understand the point he is getting at, but it's certainly an interesting way to say it.

What makes you think gun control would have prevented these kids from getting the gun? If the mother had been armed, which she probably could have been in Georgia, maybe the outcome would have been different. Maybe not. The punk kids will have the gun either way.

Apogee stadium is great, but I'm not sure cutting edge is the way to describe it. It's a fantastic stadium, but other than the Wingzone which half the fan base doesn't even like, it doesn't really do anything to differentiate ourselves from other major programs, it just brings us back on par...well, moves us back in that direction with the other programs. A basketball court like that gives personality. The same thing can be accomplished with uniforms. None of which seems to happen regularly at NT. Thats not inherently bad, but for a program with little tradition, I lean toward creativity being hugely important.

NT Sports are much easier when you go in with no expectations. I say that in all seriousness.

Since we are North Texas after all, we really shouldn't trivialize a win over a top 25 team in anything, whether it be golf or under water basket weaving.

Lee Jackson'd?

People really need to open their eyes about the Petersen hire. By many accounts, he was fixing to be fired by Wake Forest, and WF sure as hell didn't put a lot of effort into keeping him or else he would still be there. His body of work is really not that impressive and is right around .500, which is better than McCarney though...He won less games than KA with more talent. I don't dislike Petersen and like how involved he is in the games, but can we please stop acting like we went into Winston-Salem (or wherever the heck WF is) and strong armed a gem of a coach away from them. Reality sucks sometimes. There were so, so many options other than Petersen that we could have picked up who had records of overwhelming success. Matt Daniel at Central Arkansas probably the most no-brainer of them. Oh well, I'll keep the faith.

Those other coaches may have had to endure the same injuries, but I doubt they would have looked completely lost on the sidelines for the entire season like our multiple suit wearing leader.

I agree with old guy. Taking Benford out of the discussion makes it completely pointless.

So does middle still get to the NCAA?

I know where you are coming from, but if the same NT team that showed up against ULL showed up against Troy, I don't think we'd have gotten past that first round game either.

I predict in 5 years we are worse off than we were when JJ took over unless some bold but necessary decisions are made ASAP.
