For what it's worth the ESPN calculations give USA a 39% chance to advance and Portugal 40%. We need to beat Ghana then Portugal and we are through...probably.

We MUST beat Ghana in the first game then anything can happen. I think we can take Portugal on a good day. This is the group of death though and Germany and Portugal are clearly the favorites to advance over formidable competition in the US and Ghana.

This season has been awesome...winning again is great, and I appreciate all Mac has done, but it seems like a lot of people are jumping the gun here. I'm all for a 1-2 year extension but see no purpose in locking ourselves down long term. Looking at things objectively, this was a very weak CUSA this year. We beat a fantastic Ball State team, but were painfully flat against Ohio, Tulane, and UTSA. Played our hearts out against Georgia. I felt the same way about the term of Johnny Jones' contracts even during the successful years. Before we give the guy a long term extension, it just seems like it should be after more than 1 winning season.

I decided to not be lazy and find the answer myself. According to the media guide the last time we played a ranked opponent at the Super Pit was 12/30/1999 against #25 Tulsa (113-77 L). NT is 5-92 all time against ranked opponents with the last win coming @ #15 Louisville by a score of 79-73 on 2/27/1971. For those of you keeping score, that is almost 43 years. The last time NT beat a ranked opponent at home was 2/10/1970 with a 93-81 win over #11 Drake. Current streak is 44 straight losses. Page 58 of the below link has our all time results vs. AP top 25 teams.
