First thing we should do is forget Denton residents. Don’t need them. We have what? 100k to 150k alumni living within a 45 minute drive of the arena. Then probably 25k or so students living on or adjacent to campus (within Denton). We don’t need anyone but the people already predisposed. Convince THEM to care and we are golden.

You should let the Mean Green Maniacs know this. All of their good crowd pics on the Twitter page are from the Pit Crew era.

My direct involvement ended around the time Johnny Jones left. With regard to the Pit Crew name I will fully admit moderate bitterness along with a bit of “old man yelling at clouds” frustration over the name change given how many people worked extremely hard over many years to build what was built. It came crashing down with the Benford Era. I am not aware of any specific issues with the name itself leading to its demise. I hope the Maniacs ultimately make what we did with the Pit Crew look like an SMU football game. The Pit Crew was a legitimate team effort between the Athletic Department (and I mean direct support), student groups (primarily SGA), and a revolving group of dedicated students. I’m not sure if that is what is happening now but believe that is still the winning formula.

They haven’t been anywhere near filling a section in years.

Dave’s call from the 2020 (I think) Hamlet Buzzer beater was a little more excited. But we have to remember we have a legitimate professional broadcaster doing our games, not some guy that owns the local car dealership. Sometimes the homerism is going to be dialed back a bit for Dave.

It’s not 5-10 years. It’s never. Texas Tech isn’t even a basketball school. Nor is UTEP who holds an actual national championship. This is Texas. We can play football, or we can be irrelevant.

Yep. We needed to have NT and UAB basically run the table (or as close as possible with head to head). The UAB loss to Marshall hurts us both.
