DRC: Source: Littrell not interested in SMU job
Mean Green Matt replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I would be surprised if there's been any substantive contact between Seth and SMU. That's not a slight at Seth or the SMU job either. Just think the mustangs are looking elsewhere. Not sure there's anything better to garner endearment from this fan base though than getting out ahead of this and shooting down SMU whether you are being considered or not. -

Chad Morris headed to Arkansas
Mean Green Matt replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
I can't help but feel the big winner in this situation is SMU.... -
If the Indy bowl is removed there's not even a rational argument in my opinion against the NOB being the best choice for us. I personally would still trade the NOB for a shot at Florida State despite these lists, but am basically over the fact that it is not happening. The sport writers are definitely going to see more intrigue in a 9-win team playing a 10-win team, but as far as NT capturing the casual, on the fence fan, here in DFW I think FSU is more significant. Obviously regardless of how it worked out, winning and having a big showing of fans is the most important thing.
-
Same but I'm getting there. Edit: I do wonder if this sort of intellectual ranking of the bowls spills over into reality, ratings, etc. Can't help but still feel as if potentially beating FSU would ultimately be bigger for the program. Nevertheless, as I've said in other threads, we appear to have clearly made the best choice of what was actually available to us.

UNT athletic fee increase going to student vote this week
Mean Green Matt replied to dmaxel's topic in Mean Green Football
The people arguing "no" are a likely a small but very vocal minority. The people voting "yes" are likely a larger but quieter minority. The majority is likely entirely apathetic. -
It sounds like NT isn't specifically to blame unless the argument is made we should have sold ourselves better to the Indy bowl. The only thing that bothers me (and maybe I missed it) is I don't remember NT publicly stating it wanted a P5 matchup until after the initial poor fan reaction a few days ago. Before that the line was that NT wanted a destination bowl.
-
The G5 will never have a shot. Because if the G5 has a shot more parity will ensue and ultimately the slice of the pie for the P5 is smaller. Unfortunately, splitting off would probably make the G5 less relevant than it already is.

"Reaching that mark would give UNT just as much of a boost as beating a 6-6 Florida State team without its head coach and starting quarterback Deondre Francois, who was lost for the season with a knee injury in the Seminoles' season-opener." @Brett Vito I have to disagree with you that getting win #10 against Troy would be more significant for the program than getting win #10 against Florida State...in fact, Troy is arguably the tougher team than an unmotivated Florida State squad. The team needs the support in New Orleans, but curious if there will be any reporting on how things occurred over the last few days. Edit: I suppose I'm mostly curious about what the procedures were supposed to be and what actually happened. How and why is FAU not in the Indy bowl. Was that not an available choice for the champion because of secondary tie in?

DRC: UNT headed to New Orleans Bowl
Mean Green Matt replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Shreveport vs Florida State > New Orleans vs Troy > Not bowling. It would have been a disaster to somehow not end up in a bowl. I still think we as a fan base have reason for some disappointment without knowing specifically who or what caused it. -
Well, I'm sure very few (if any on here) know exactly who is to blame. This just doesn't feel right and objective me feels even worse for FAU than us. The "system" stinks.
-
To be fair we probably will not be favored (at least by Vegas) against Troy either.

DRC: UNT headed to New Orleans Bowl
Mean Green Matt replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I know no one else went bowling. That is my point. There was no reason to be disappointed with New Orleans those years (even at 5-6) because it was literally the best we can do. I want to be very clear, I'm not blaming Wren Baker. I have no clue what happened. But there have been lots of people on here saying over and over how it was not plausible for us to play a P5 school in a bowl game. Well, a team we beat in USM is playing Florida State using a contractual tie in that CUSA has. Seems like that would have been a plausible scenario for us. As to your bolded text I made that exact point in another thread. Don't mistake disappointment for some sort of lack of support for the program. -
DRC: UNT headed to New Orleans Bowl
Mean Green Matt replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Did a conference mate that we beat in 2001 play a power conference school in Shreveport that year? What about in any other the other New Orleans Bowl years? -
As upset as we are, if I were an FAU fan I would be even more dismayed. After the season they have they get Akron. Honestly, for the good of the conference if anyone should be playing Florida State in Shreveport it should be FAU.

Harry, the Shreveport crowd against Florida State would be double what we will take to New Orleans. No comparison whatsoever.
-
I'm with @MeanGreenTexan. The fact that we are not playing FSU in Shreveport is a massive failure by either CUSA, NT Athletics, or some combination of the two. Even though this is against another CUSA team I still blame the conference for not working with the bowls to shepherd the better teams to where they would prefer to go. I'm assuming we would have taken that all day and this is a CUSA problem.

DRC: UNT headed to New Orleans Bowl
Mean Green Matt replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
And there we go...if true, this should have never been allowed to happen. If you look at a map there is no excuse for USM not being in the New Orleans bowl and us being in Shreveport. -
Seems like a pretty mundane comment to me...

It's OFFICIAL: UNT vs. Troy in 2017 New Orleans Bowl
Mean Green Matt replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
We also need a big crowd down there despite the disappointment with the matchup (which I think most NT fans are feeling), because: 1) We want bowl committees to see the fan base travels well which would be a benefit in the future. 2) Troy is very good and we need as much of a home field advantage as possible. We MUST win this game.
