Improving the Student Game Day Experience

Then you went to the wrong school. I disagree with you observation that UNT now takes anyone who walks off the street. Having said that we certainly did in my generation [61/66] when we were a "yawl come school " known for its music department and being a great teachers school. In my opinion our university system is disconnected with its medical school in Ft. Worth and law school in Dallas producing graduates with high income potential with no ties to the Denton campus. However I can't explain while graduates from our business school who have developed successful business careers have not given more to the university. It also is reflected the of lack of giving to athletics where we rank last among Texas D1 schools. However I am offended by your use of the therm "and the like." I don't know if you are referring to their race, sexual orientation, or economic status . In fact you would classify me as one of the "and the like" from Ft. Worth whose choice after high school was NTSU or the Army. Tuition was $5 per hour with a $ 2.50 lab fee which made it affordable. I got married as a student in 65', graduated in 66', had a successful business career and have given back financially to the best of my ability ever sense. In summary I also wish that we had more "whales" donating big bucks but not to the exclusion of those who can't. -

So how many UNT students actually live in Denton? -
UTSA and Traylor likely heading to Pac12
wardly replied to Dannymacfan's topic in Conference ReAlignment
They are betting that any media rights contract that is negotiated is going to be at least twice that amount. However the PAC 6 does not have a contract in place as they are still putting a conference together so until they do its just pie in the sky. -

Every podcast I read say that the "new" PAC won't get anymore than yesterdays MWC, which is about #4 to $5 million per team. Assuming most media viewing is in west coast and rockies there 3 schools don't increase the PAC's media value at all. That would be a good raise for UTSA and the other 5 schools who left CUSA and are getting 1/2 a share. However for Memphis and Tulane its probably a push. If we get to AFA for football and Texas State for all sports the AAC will be ok. -

" And the like. " Are you sure you are not a SMU want-a-be? For the unwashed UNT and UTA are the most affordable 4 year choices in the neighborhood. By the by, UNT Frisco seems to be thriving, probably because they are not being pulled down by students from Lewisville, Grand Prairie ,Arlington, Garland and the like. -
UNT has 3 problems that UTSA doesn't regarding football. SMU,TCU and the Dallas Cowboys. The PAC 6 really only needs 9 programs. USF is a bridge too far and UNT really doesn't have much of a market presence in DFW. If the PAC 6 just gets the 3 programs it wants, Tulane, Memphis, and UTSA it might call it a day. If one or more of these 3 balk UNT,UNLV,Texas State, and New Mexico could be in play, assuming the AFA moves to the AAC. However it is costing the PAC 6 $25 million per MWC team they poach so they probably would prefer AAC programs that they can buy much cheaper.Just a guess but decisions by all parties should come to a head soon.

I don't know that UNT understands that they are in the entertainment business , and I'm not referring to the athletic product on the field or in the gym. Our student body does not embrace our sports enough to attend games so we need to provide them another reason to show up, such as before or after game concerts, etc. I am not in the entertainment business either but I would think someone attuned to students interests could put together events that would increase their participation. -
To me the question Tulane and Memphis need to answer is what do they gain moving from one P6 conference to another? Also some pod casters are saying that the PAC 6 only wants to add 3 more programs to get to 9 so throw UTSA into the mix. However,if as predicted is a few years, the top 60 or so P4 programs form their own football conference these schools are not going to make the cut so whats the point of moving west?

I just googled " UNT Game Day Boots " and it took me to Poshmark who has a barn full of them.

I googled several years ago and bought a pair from a department store in Florida.

For you youngsters, about 24 years ago the WAC had 16 schools. However 5 of them were disgruntled, and few years later 5 of their presidents met at the Denver airport and agreed to form a new conference. They convinced 3 of their cohorts to join them and the 8 schools formed the MWC which essentially destroyed the WAC, who never recovered. Time passes, and a few years ago the AAC steals 6 programs from CUSA forcing them to add anyone they could just to survive, if being the worst G 6 program is surviving . So what goes around comes around. The MWC will add schools like New Mexico State,UTEP,SAC St, and anyone else in order to live. They are scheduled to receive over $100 million in exit and poaching fees so are well positioned to help 1AA programs move up.However Hawaii is on life support, playing in a high school stadium and being subsidized their travel expenses by the MWC who might not want to continue this arrangement . The AAC will probably lose 2 to 4 schools which they will try to replace with Sun Belt or CUSA programs. All of the movements were started by the poaching of the SEC,Big 12, and Big 10 ,which again proves that the big fish eat the little fish.

Just asking, but how many years ago did UNT have a really good defense? Over twenty?

The NIL and transfer portal are the current facts of life. While I don't like it I accept it because I enjoy college sports over professional even though the line is now somewhat blurry. On another note a Georgia court just ruled that their colleges can pay players direct .

I just posted a note that an FSU pod caster reports ESPN is giving the ACC a very large sum of money [they guessed $50 to $100 million but don't know actual number]in an effort to keep the conference together. ESPN determined that it would be cheaper to pay the ACC more money now that to cobble together a conference should the ACC implode. This "bonus" is intended to be used for a performance based payout to all conference members which both FSU and Clemson want. If true, then Memphis, Tulane, and UTSA are headed west.
-
FSU pod caster interviewed an attorney this who reinforced the rumor that in an effort to keep the ACC together will give them enough money to satisfy both FSU and Clemson . This money in intended for the conference to bonus out to all its members on a performance based formula yet to be determined.
-
We based upon our recent pounding by TT perhaps UNT should reduce its " talent fee " by 10%.
-
All the west coast podcasts I have read think that the PAC 6, even with the recent MWC additions and possible steals from the AAC, would be worth about what the existing MWC media rights contract is which includes the 4 MWC defections.

Oregon State AD: Pac-12 will look to add new schools quickly
wardly replied to NT80's topic in Conference ReAlignment
Not a good look but what's he supposed to say. He looked like either his dog was run over or Memphis told him they were going to PAC 6. -

I was surprised by our invitation to the AAC as SMU was their athletic program in DFW. I always assumed that our commissioner new that SMU was actively looking elsewhere and they wanted to protect their place in the Metroplex. If it were not their move to ACC we would be probably be back in the Sun Belt.
