I wonder what the connection is? It's a pretty big leap from the PAC 12 Southern Cal job to Georgia Southern.

I meant "minimal FINANCIAL athletic requirement for admittance". Meds have not kicked in.
-
My bad. I stand corrected. I guess I got in the expense column by error. I did take 131 basic accounting 3 times at UNT before completion. Quite honestly, I don't see how they can even function in 1A with only that amount. However, I was more surprised at La. Tech budget of $23 million and ULL 's of $30 million. In a perfect world La. Tech would be in the SBC and ULM in the Southland Conference. I have always been surprised that individual conferences don't have a minimal athletic requirement for admittance. Oh well.
-
I googled their athletic budget, which I also did for NMSU [$20 million] and North Dakota state [$25 million].
-
The last time I checked their budget is $20 million and higher than any present or former Southland Conference athletic program. While that's not saying much, its the same amount as New Mexico State who CUSA is now begging to join. Sometimes in business its not about the bucks but about the loyalty. ULM is not the richest kid on the block, but they have done the most with what they have and been a team player for the SBC. The Bulldogs may have a better program but they forgot the golden rule; first you become a top producer, then you can become a pain in the ass.
-
Well ULM did beat Liberty this year, who beat ODU, UAB,MTSU, and UNT. ULL is standing beside ULM on the issue of La. Tech, who just learned what goes around comes around. They treated both schools like trailer trash for years and are getting their comeuppance. The SBC party line is that they don't need a third school in Louisiana. Now if the Bulldogs had played well with others it could have been a different story.

He is making $6.5 million a year, burned out, and i am thinking done with coaching, nothing else to prove.
-
None of the 8 opponents UTSA has beaten so far his year have a winning record. Illinois, their P5 win is 3&6, they stomped Lamar, and of their remaining schedule only UTEP and UAB have winning records. Besides them the two cupcakes left with losing records are So. Miss and UNT.
-
Three of his wins were against Southland Conference teams, and he has one win over a P5 program, Illinois. Out side of a win against Memphis, his other 10 were against CUSA teams. He certainly has the background to be a great coach but I don't know that I would have committed $28 million over 10 years based upon a 15 & 5 record primarily against cream puffs. However, UTSA certainly does and I hope he does very well as he is certainly a benchmark for us to compare our coach against. As far a calling Littrel's extension a mistake, you were in the minority as if memory serves most of us were glad to have wrapped him up. Little did we know.

Time will tell.

Any UNT all star team that doesn't include John Savage is incomplete. Savage played in early 60's and was second team All Conference on the Missouri Valley . Our team wasn't very good, and we played Cincy, Bradley, Drake, Wichita just to name a few. He held his own with the very best of them and should be on your first team. Just a very old man's opinion.

Fort Worth - Home of the AAC Basketball Tournament
wardly replied to greenminer's topic in Mean Green Basketball
It's in the same area as UNT Health Science Center where you can pick up a tee shirt saying " TCU School of Medicine at UNT Health Science Center. TCU is on the front, which is purple, and UNT on the back, which is green. Their mascot is a yet to be named purple flying frog with green wings. -
I know of another university in Texas that did the same thing after their coach had back to back 9 win seasons. How did that work out?

At what point is CUSA no longer a conference?
wardly replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
CUSA down to 5 programs. It appears [ note "appears"] they will invite NMSU as an all sports member and try to get UCONN, UMASS, and Liberty as "Football Only " members. Rumor has it [note "rumor"] that the Sun Belt may drop non football programs UTA and UALR, and that they may[note "may"] move to CUSA for basketball to offset any "Football Only" members. Sam Houston wants to move up but students voted down a $3.00 per hour athletic fee increase so this might influence their decision. I have added disclaimers to this post because based upon my recent experiences nearly all new outlets releasing "information" on recent conference realignments, especially concerning the AAC, have been inaccurate with the exceptions of the Big 12 and SBC. -
North Texas Football schedules/records during the 1-AA years

Our seats were basically on the end zone sideline, and I was closer to being in bounds on their last minute game winning touchdown than was the Texas receiver who caught the pass . -

Small world. I met Keith Chapman [sic?] , our field goal kicker in 1988 today at a Plano wine store. I was wearing UNT gear and he introduced himself. I flew with the team to the Marshall game. A big fight broke out between teams ant the end of the game, and we had a bomb scare on the airplane which was searched by the local police. My take a way was that there in a lot of in breeding in West Virginia. -
Well guys, we never like articles that don't flatter us and love those that do, regardless of their source. Most of the recent expansion was football based. The Big 12 commissioner stated that their decision to add the 4 programs they did were based 75% on football and 25% basketball.( you can look it up.) The AD Power Index should be a more accurate yardstick. Whether it is or not depends upon where you school is ranked. Nearly all articles published about recent conference expansions are opinion based with a low degree of accuracy, similar to our posts. I personally made a boatload of false assumptions about where programs were going based upon what I thought was fact but turned out to be just the authors opinion. The bottom line is that the AAC thinks we look pretty even with the football zit on our nose, and that is a very good thing.

The Death Knell of C-USA continues to toll

They are smart enough not to but a ticket on the Titanic. I look for them to remain independent.
