Very few programs make money in baseball especially if they must build a venue. The last 24 hours of a terminally ill persons life generates nearly 75% of their medical bill even though all involved realize ifs a wasted effort to prolong their death. I saw a women interviewed about the subject whose husband was dying and her response was that she wanted the best care available to him no matter the cost as long as she didn't have to pay for it. She also wanted UNT to build a $20 million dollar baseball park and fund the annual cost of scholarships, coaches, administration, travel,etc., with a magic wand. I do think small on baseball, especially when I consider the small attendance and small revenue associated with the sport.

Well they already have a venue to play in. They may be older, but are serviceable. Also, just because we are more funded now that ever doesn't mean we have millions of dollars to piss off on a non revenue producing sport. Have some one write the check for a stadium and then we can talk about it. The softball stadium our women play is was originally the high school facility that we purchased. If we are going to invest is a new stadium I would recommend a new women's softball park to support a very good program. The problem with those pushing for a baseball program is a champagne taste with a beer pocketbook. Bottom line is that we can't afford it.

The last thing that an historically underfunded athletic department needs is a non revenue producing sport with a one to two million dollar annual deficit [ check Texas Tech] that would require a capital expenditure approaching twenty million dollars for a few hundred or so fans. What's wrong with this picture?

A number of them won't be 500 in their conference and still get a bid.

The Super Pit is not a dedicated athletic facility but a multipurpose arena owned and managed by the university. Our athletic department must schedule games, practices, and any other event just like any other department. This was the only way we could get it constructed as the state of Texas does not allow university funds to be used to build athletic facilities.

I don't know about Joe, but I have yet to see anyone predicting 2 bids for CUSA.

Agreed that its hard to compare programs when targeting attendance. Houston is averaging 7,000 in a highly competitive sports market but has the rich history that we lack. However at some point you need to have comparisons as a way of determining how effective your marketing efforts are. We we have a great product but fans are not buying into it. Why?

Today Joe Lunardi has CUSA as a one bid conference with UNT as 12 seed playing Alabama in Portland. SMU is nowhere to be found but TCU gets an at large bid.

I guess it depends on the cost to update the Super Pit. It would be nice to have a dedicated basketball arena but is it necessary and at what cost? I am afraid that Coach Mac will move on to greener pastures because of poor attendance. For example, our future AAC Wichita State averaged 10,000 per game and 8,500 since the Covid with a middling team. They have a young cracker jack coach so as their record improves so will their attendance. SMU is playing well and drawing good crows. At some point when you win the regular season title , CUSA championship, go to the NCAA's and still average only 4,000 attendance it's time to pack your bag and move on because as a coach you have done all you can do.

We are a one bid conference . Period. UNT must win the CUSA tournament to secure a bid to the NCAA's. On our side of the bracket La. Tech and UAB will be trouble, on the other side MTSU and W.K. The Hilltoppers are playing good ball now and are my biggest concern besides UAB.

Well we split with UAB, both games came down to the end, so I think we are evenly matched. We still need to go deep in the tournament to have a chance at an at large bid.

UAB is 4 1/2 point favorites. Everything I read says we must win this game in order to be considered for an at large bid should we lose our conference tournament. As of today we are ranked # 2 among top 10 mid majors and UAB #9. Basically we flipped with them from last week do to their getting thumped buy ODU.

I just don't see the talent that you are referring too. Looks to me like another 7 loss season.

ESPN just released this week's ranking of top 10 Mid Majors. North Texas is 7th, UAB 3rd.

The G5's should be in a separate division similar to the FCS. It just a matter of time before the P5's split from the NCAA.

Ever is a really long time. However the U.S. Postal Service agrees with you as our eagle looks similar to theirs. With all the eagles in sports it would be nice to have one that is different from the crowd. While I don't really care for the USF bull it does stand out.

Thanks for the correction. I can't remember who dropped us to 1AA but Vandiver refused to give a group of alumni authority to raise money for athletics. The idea was that Abner Haynes was to be paid by this group to lead this endeavor. When Frank said no it killed an opportunity that might have changed the history of our football program. We will never know.

While Dr. Hurley was not a supporter of NTSU athletics, his replacement Frank Vandiver (sic?) really wounded the program by dropping to 1AA. However athletics had no money, so it was either drop down or drop football and it could have gone either way.

The McNatts and Loveless families made a very generous donation to fund the indoor practice facility. In addition a $30 million donation was just made to our business school . The Veortman family also made a multi million dollar donation to the university. However, we really don't have plenty of very generous donors . UTSA just got a $50 million plus donation and Texas State has received major bucks from a graduate in the past few years. While I certainly appreciate every dollar given regardless of the amount the must find a way to increase our donor base.Historically our athletic department has been very underfunded, and it wasn't until the current administration that the purse strings were opened up.
