I am not suggesting that.My point was that the conference we left, the SBC, became better than the one we joined, CUSA. I think its great being in the AAC and it will finely give us a chance at an attractive regional division that we should be able to compete in. SMU,UTSA,Rice,Tulane,Tulsa, and either Memphis or Navy . Again, for you youngsters back in the day both Tulsa and Memphis were conference mates in the MVC.

The App State win today got me thinking
wardly replied to Dannymacfan's topic in Mean Green Football
In article today DMN said App State head coach makes $900,000 per year. While most coaches have used the Mountaineers as a stepping stone they continue to reload. For you youngsters Jerry Moore replaced Hayden Fry and lost as many games as he won. After 2 years he got the Texas Tech job and was fired after a few years. Moore landed at App. State, built them into a D1AA powerhouse, and established the winning culture that still exists today. -
Any problems with Blue parking?
-
ULM will be forced to drop back to 1AA. I don't see how they have lasted this long in D1.
-
Well they do get paid in collard greens and moonshine.

What a hoot! We left the SBC for a better conference, CUSA. Its' members left CUSA for AAC and we ended up in a watered down CUSA ranked below the SBC which we just left. Now we are in the AAC who loses its top three programs and will be ranked below the SBC. You just have to admire the leadership of the Belt. CUSA, not so much.

Marshall upset the Irish

Well the good news is that Blue lot parking won't be a problem this week. I am guessing the crowd at 15,000, about half of last weeks attendance.

Well. Well, "it's not their first rodeo" may seem like an over simplification but it's not their first rodeo. You only have one chance to make a good first impression and I don't care home much WB tries to sugarcoat shit the debacle [both on and off the field] Saturday reflects poorly upon his department.

Just asking. Is our receiving core the same caliber as Fine had?

Worried after thinking about the AAC

I don't know how well we could compete in the belt. -
Worried after thinking about the AAC

I saw a Yahoo ranking that after our pounding by SMU we are ranked ! place behind Tulsa and ahead of USF,FAU,Temple,Navy,Charlotte.and Rice. Someone posted statistics that showed in the last 25 years or so we lost 60% of our games. I am nearly 80 and have followed Eagle football since my freshman year 1961. After Fry left in the late 70's we have had a few bright spots under Nelson, Dickey, and Littrell. However, overall we have a sorry football program. We used to blame it on our lack of modern "bricks and sticks" that hampered recruiting but that excuse can no longer be used. Our Women's programs are thriving , as is Men's basketball. However no matter how much money we throw at it our football still sucks and I see no end in site. Regarding our recent 5 bowl appearances, we had two teams that played with losing records, and the other 3 got beaten handily. I summary, I see no end in site. -
I understand, but we are in bottom 1/3 of those left.

SMU had a lot more talent than us before NIL. Dykes did a great job using the transfer portal . It's obvious that we can't compete with the top teams in the AAC. Again, look at where we were when we pounded the Musangs just a handful of years ago and where we are now compared to them.

To me it's not what WB does next. It's about what NS does next.

While I believe that we need to make a coaching change , during the season is not the time to do it. It seems ages ago that we pounded SMU in Denton and their coach quit after the game. Look at where the two programs are today. We are going different directions which will get worse when NIL gets in full swing. I don't know what the actual attendance was last night but our Athletic Department was about as prepared as Pompeii was for lava. It's bad enough to get pounded at home but at least make attending the game a positive experience. In my opinion both issues are Baker's, and its time to review his performance at season's end as well.

His job is to report the news as accurately , honestly, and impartially as possible, not to be the "homer" that you prefer. SMU does have more talent and fewer key injuries than North Texas and should win the game. However, to determine the winner is why they play the game.

I don't know that we are either. It's hard to tell when you open against programs such as UTEP. We don't know how many receivers will be available which can make a big difference. I just don't think we can afford to get down early. Not to diminish last weeks win, but I wonder how we would have responded if in the 1st half UTEP had made their missed field goal, scored on our 10 yard line instead of turning the ball over because of an errant snap, and not dropped a sure touchdown pass .That's 17 points they left on the table which would of flipped the score. I know I am playing "what if", but we were lucky to get out of the first half with a 1 point lead. Just saying.....

We need to do the area code thingy on our helmets!
wardly replied to GreenFlag's topic in Mean Green Football
That was an area code? I thought it was their combined SAT score. -
Did you notice Saturday is "High School Band Day?" Back before time began North Texas had an annual high school band day, which was fun for the kids and jacked attendance up a tad.

On paper SMU should take us to the woodshed. However on paper a bumblebee can't fly. If we can hang with the Ponies in the 1st half we have a chance to win. However if we are down 14+ its going to be a long night.

Miners collapse in week zero opener
wardly replied to meangreenfaninno's topic in Mean Green Football
For those of us who would have liked for UNT to join the MWC, I didn't even see a box score on the DMN regarding our win over UTEP. -
The t.v. announcer hit the nail on the head. With 36 seconds left in half why call a passing play? Take a knee and go into half time with a 4 point lead. We were lucky in the first half. UTEP missed a field goal, their center made bad snap on about our 10 yard line, and their receiver missed dropped a touchdown pass. I thought for the 1st game of the season Aune played well with 5 receivers out of the game. Three touchdowns with no interceptions with 250 yards passing is a good road win where were were the dogs. Also the Miners had 43,000 in attendance regardless of the cost of a ticket.
