I was at the game also. My son graduated from UAB 25 years ago so we sat on the Blazer side below their Stadium Club. While their were certainly not 18,000 butts in the seat , there were more that 3,000 fans, especially on our side. In addition, a blue norther rolled in and it was pretty cold. We bailed at half time and watched the 2nd half at nearby sports bar.

Did the UAB starting QB play against UTSA?
-
Our bowl options really depend on how our season ends. Best case we beat UAB,Rice, and UTSA finishing 9&4. Worst case we lose to UAB and UTSA, beat Rice, finishing 7 & 6. Because of out poor fan support at last years bowl game in Frisco I doubt we get a return invitation. Getting invited to a lower rung bowl no longer garnishes as much interest as it initially did. I attended the New Mexico bowl in Albuquerque when we were pounded by Utah State and was not impressed. It's played at the Lobo's stadium and felt just like a regular game to me. I have enjoyed both games in the Cotton Bowl which were well attended, and would love to play in Ft.Worth. To get to either game we probably need to at least split with UAB and Rice, and beat UTSA for an 8 & 5 season. Just an old man's opinion.

Have we reached the golden age of North Texas athletics?
wardly replied to Dannymacfan's topic in Mean Green Football
The Southwest Conference was segregated until the mid to late 70's, and African American athletics from Texas had very little options. I don't remember when the U of H integrated , but the Big 10 and Big 8 were their landing places as well as UNT. I was at North Texas from 1961 to 1966 while we were in the Missouri Valley Conference and saw some great basketball teams come thru the Men's Gym. However , our football team was a combined 19-28-2- my first 4 years but went 8 & 2 in 1966 and won the MVC Championship. Rod Rust won the MVC Championship in 1967 an had 2 more winning seasons until crashing his final 3 with a combined record of 7 & 26. The best team we had, in my opinion, was in 1968. We were 8 &2 , getting hosed by officials in Little Rock losing to # 16 Arkansas 15-17. I moved out of state and missed first two seasons, where he won the MVC Championship in 1973 with a 5-5-1 record followed by a 2-7-2 season. However he got things humming in 1975. It was a different world in the 60's and mid 70's. We only had a dozed or so bowls, the USA population was 2/3 rds or less than it is now, and Viet Nam was ever present. I guess I would say that my golden age for athletes was 60's and 70's, but facilities beginning with our new football stadium. -

FIU Panthers vs North Texas Mean Green Prediction, 11/5/2022
wardly replied to Dannymacfan's topic in Mean Green Football
FYI, UNT is averaging 35.6 points per game, defense allowing 32.1 points per game. Granted we should gain separation of those statistics this weekend but 3 points difference doesn't leave much room for error. -
I need 2 club seats plus parking pass for Rice game 10/26

Hopefully it won't come down to the Rice game but good news is we have a by week on the 19th after UAB.

Agreed, and I really don't understand his inability to attract an above average quarterback.

Joe Green had nothing to do with the nickname " Mean Green".

Aune better not see the field again this season
wardly replied to peanuts104's topic in Mean Green Football
Well I am 80, so not exactly a boy. I don't think I am stupid, although I do question wasting the time responding to a retard such as yourself. Assuming you can read[ which I don't think is a given ] the game stats tell the story.First downs 12 to 31,rushing 22 yards to 257, passing 325 yards [ Aune threw 3 td's] to 238 [ Harris threw 2 td's ] , and the most telling stat , time of possession ,21.27 minutes to 38.20. Our defense was on the field too long and finely ran out of gas and if you can't run the ball their defense plays for a pass. See, it's not to hard to determine why UTSA won, boy. -

We had 5 yards rushing the entire first half, another 10 the 3rd Qtr. No way you can lay this at Aune's feet.- 84 replies

***OFFICIAL UNT vs UTSA IN-GAME DISCUSSION***
wardly replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
We had 5 yards rushing 1st half, and only 15 yards rushing towards end of 3rd Qtr. What's up?> -
I feel we have a good chance to beat UAB. UTSA and WK not so much. Assuming we beat one of these three teams plus both FIU and Rice at home, we finish 7 & 5 with no real signature win and go to another lower tier bowl where we lose. What is Baker going to do? What if we win the bowl game and finish 8 & 5? Littrell gets a new contract?

The most overpaid coach in college football?
wardly replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
Well, in business the 4 hardest words I had to learn were "maybe you are right", and you and "Mean Green Texan" are right and I am wrong. Moore was at UNT for 2 years and lost as many games as he won. He was fired at Texas Tech but resurfaced at App. State and built the foundation for their success. Holtz at La. Tech probably did the most with the least of anyone in the neighborhood. He won the UFL championship this season at Birmingham so he might not be on the college market. But, as has been posted before, with a $2 million budget we should attract a great deal of interest. However if Littrell goes 7 & 5 and we are invited to bowl game whats Baker going to do? We have 3 tough road games at UTSA , W.K.,and UAB. Win one of these[UAB is beatable] and our remaining home games and we are there.[ NOTE : my son went to Auburn, had too much fun, and graduated from UAB. He lives in Ft. Lauderdale and we are meeting in Birmingham for UNT/UAB game and see their new stadium.]- 63 replies

The most overpaid coach in college football?

We will spend at least what Littrell was making , and the last North Texas head football coach to get a P5 job was Jerry Moore in 1980 who went to Texas Tech.- 63 replies
