2023 North Texas Signing List with Offers and Analysis
wardly replied to jtm0097's topic in Mean Green Football
Super job as usual! -
I talked to a former UNT basketball player a few years ago who told me Savage was living in Delaware. He was fun to watch back in the day when the PIT was packed.

New Basketball Arena proposed on Light the Tower Masterplan update

I asked R.V. to do that a decade ago. His concert was that some people liked to sit high . I attended NTSU in the early 60's when games were played in the Men's Gym[ aka The Pitt] . We were at the bottom of MVC but had a great player, John Savage. The games seem to be always packed, primarily by students. I don't think the gym held more than a few thousand , but at that time North Texas was known as a commuter school, had one men's dorm [West Dorm], and about 10,000 students . Basically the demand was greater than the supply, which is a great problem to have. Having said that, there were no computers, internet, nor streaming services. We had 3 movie theaters on the square plus a drive in, ABC,NBC,and CBS in a dry county so not as many entertainment options as their are now.At present it looks like more non students attend than students which is a starting point for improvement. This is actually something of a mute point for me because at my age the chances of me attending a UNT basketball game is a new venue are slim and none, and as they say "Slim just left town.' -
New Basketball Arena proposed on Light the Tower Masterplan update

College football and basketball need season ticket holders who are making a financial commitment to support a specific program for a season. A 10,000 seat basketball venue which averages only 4,000 per game is probably less likely to sell more season tickets than a 6,000 seat arena averaging the same 4,000 butts in the seats. If you know a game is never going to be sold out in the Super Pitt why make a commitment for the season when you don't have to in order to guarantee a ticket. However, if the venue is 5,000 or so the same 4,000 average attendance means that you need to participate in some type of season ticket package if you want a decent seat. The University of Texas at Austin moved from an 18,000 seat venue to one about 45% smaller at 10,000 seating, and they have nationally ranked teams in a much larger city and greater student enrollment. [ Plus I think they know what they are doing and am not quite sure we do] -

New Basketball Arena proposed on Light the Tower Masterplan update

Define "recently". We have averaged only about 4,000 fans per game with winning teams the past few years. I would like for us to build a new women's soft ball park where our other dedicated athletic facilities are and use their old park and surrounding area for football game parking. -

The State of Texas does not pay for athletic facilities such as a "NEW PITT''. I have no idea what a 6,000 seat basketball arena as described would cost but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the dirt to fly. I assume it's going to take a lot of donor money to get to the point where the balance can be bonded out. Perhaps someone can put a $ estimate on it. -
Jared and team working to help with better UNT merchandise
wardly replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
The problem is that on t.v. you can't tell what this is. R.V. wanted "NORTH TEXAS" on helmets when were were on t.v. in order to better advertise the university. -
Am I the only one worried about the Defense?
wardly replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
In order to have a much improved defense we need much improved players. Replacing starters from a terrible defense with existing players who couldn't make the starting rotation won't get us to where we need to be. -
Why does next year have. To be a rebuilding Year?
wardly replied to Jonnyeagle's topic in Mean Green Football
On another note, its my understanding that both Littrell and Baby Briles are in running for TCU O.C. position .However Briles is getting push back by some alumni and fans because his association with problems at Baylor when his father was coaching. Take it with a grain of salt. -

That's a lot of suppositions based upon a player announcing he is transferring. -

Opps! Not entirely crazy, but had a bad Senior moment overlooking the Green Wave. Just not used to Tulane ranked so high. They had a great year and their Cotton bowl win was one of the best bowl games of the year. On the other hand Navy is in the tank, Temple is not much, UAB is beatable, and Charlotte ,Rice, and FAU probably are in the bottom half along with us. The AAC is tougher than CUSA, and we only won a single conference game last against a team with a winning record. The 6 teams from CUSA that joined AAC , with the exception of UTSA ,didn't bring much to the table, so for us to be as good as last year won't get the job done. I think we can compete but the first few years may look familiar until the defense improves. We will beat the bottom feeders but struggle against the better teams. -

With the exception of Memphis, East Carolina, UTSA, and SMU, the AAC is basically CUSA 102. We have a chance to beat the rest but will struggle with teams with winning records. This is definitely a rebuilding year for one of the worst defenses in D1 football. -

I think WK was the only team we beat last year with a winning record. If next year's roster is comparable to last year's we should expect about the same results. -

Our defense needs a little more than just being fine tuned. -
Great. Since my kids and grand kids are grown I wasn't aware of the Scrappy Club.
-
I grew up in Ft. Worth in 50's and 60's. During that time TCU had a "FROG CLUB" for kids that could sit in the end zone for 50 cents. I realize that was in the stone age for some of you but it seemed to be very popular. The Baptist Church spends a large portion of their revenue on youth programs with the mission to get the kids and their parents will follow. This has also proven to be very successful . My point is that it wouldn't cost anything to fill unused end zone seats with the establishment of an "EAGLE CLUB" . You could charge adults a nominal price for a ticket and let accompanied kids in for a buck. Just a thought.

I like the combos but the helmet worn at Frisco Bowl was a miss. I could barely make our the "state of Texas " logo.

Anyone else excited about the new FIU series?
wardly replied to meangreenfaninno's topic in Mean Green Football
I find it hard to project what our 2023 record will be with a new coaching staff that got a late start in recruiting. While we do need a QB, in my opinion we must rebuild the defense which requires a lot of moving parts and won't happen over night. -

Tulsa,Navy, and Temple, maybe UAB are good win opportunities . -
I agree that after Charlotte loss we went south fast and never recovered,

If memory serves Utah State was a top 25 team and Fine was injured early in the game and did not return so I gave Littrell a pass.
