  1. Didn't Howard win their tournament today?
  2. Question. If the PAC 12 gets down to just Oregon St. and Washington St., and "merge" with the MWC, can they fly the flag as the "new" PAC 12 and maintain all existing automatic NCAA bids?
  3. I must have dreamed it.
  4. I agree with your conclusion regarding the death of the PAC 12. However, I think Oregon State and Washington State will join the MWC instead of the AAC. It makes more sense[ not that has ever mattered in conference realignments] to hook up with a conference that already has 3 schools in California, 2 in Nevada, plus Boise .
  5. Guys, thanks for the information. I think we will fly into BWI and rent a car.
  6. Going to the bathroom to pee has become a long walk
  7. I am taking my 13 year old grandson to Annapolis for our game with Navy on 10/7. Actually I am 80 and he might be taking me. At any rate , what is best way to get there? Fly to Washington, train to Annapolis or rent a car? Will I need a car once I get there? Any motel/hotel suggestions? I took his older brother when he was 15 to our game in West Point against Army about 6 years ago and except for freezing our butts off had a great time. UNT Athletics put a package together to include tickets, air and ground transportation, and hotel. Hopefully they will again but if not I need a little help. Thanks
  8. Sorry, I lump them together
  9. I think Army likes being an independent but that may change. The Air Force Academy and Colorado State are both in the same secondary market [Colorado Springs ] compared with Georgia State in Atlanta. I have been late to realize that our invitation to the AAC was a hedge in DFW should the Ponies gallop off into the sunset. I also have been wrong on about every realignment scenario in the past few years but looking at a map and the location of GSU in Atlanta its hard not to believe that they are #1 on the AAC's expansion list.
  10. I assume market size is important otherwise Rice would not be in the AAC. Atlanta would be a good get with Georgia State and 28,000 students plus it fits the AAC demographics.
  11. Army was in CUSA but prefers being independent. Both MTSU and WK were offered MAC membership as a package but the Blue Raiders wouldn't leave CUSA. I guess they like the air travel miles.Atlanta looks like the market to be in.
  12. I don't see an urgency to add another team. If SMU moves to PAC 12, that still leaves Texas with 3 programs in major markets. Texas State, UTEP, and LA. Tech bring nothing to the table. However Georgia State adds Atlanta , which fits nicely with UAB,FAU,ECU, and Charlotte.
  13. And both Tulsa and Navy had new coaches as well. However, considering our late start I am o.k. with our ranking. We finely have a coaching staff with Texas high school and college backgrounds that are going to pay off as well if not better that UTSA and T.T.
  14. I talked to a former UNT basketball player a few years ago who told me Savage was living in Delaware. He was fun to watch back in the day when the PIT was packed.
  15. Well we could go back to the Men's gym if its available.
  16. I asked R.V. to do that a decade ago. His concert was that some people liked to sit high . I attended NTSU in the early 60's when games were played in the Men's Gym[ aka The Pitt] . We were at the bottom of MVC but had a great player, John Savage. The games seem to be always packed, primarily by students. I don't think the gym held more than a few thousand , but at that time North Texas was known as a commuter school, had one men's dorm [West Dorm], and about 10,000 students . Basically the demand was greater than the supply, which is a great problem to have. Having said that, there were no computers, internet, nor streaming services. We had 3 movie theaters on the square plus a drive in, ABC,NBC,and CBS in a dry county so not as many entertainment options as their are now.At present it looks like more non students attend than students which is a starting point for improvement. This is actually something of a mute point for me because at my age the chances of me attending a UNT basketball game is a new venue are slim and none, and as they say "Slim just left town.'
  17. College football and basketball need season ticket holders who are making a financial commitment to support a specific program for a season. A 10,000 seat basketball venue which averages only 4,000 per game is probably less likely to sell more season tickets than a 6,000 seat arena averaging the same 4,000 butts in the seats. If you know a game is never going to be sold out in the Super Pitt why make a commitment for the season when you don't have to in order to guarantee a ticket. However, if the venue is 5,000 or so the same 4,000 average attendance means that you need to participate in some type of season ticket package if you want a decent seat. The University of Texas at Austin moved from an 18,000 seat venue to one about 45% smaller at 10,000 seating, and they have nationally ranked teams in a much larger city and greater student enrollment. [ Plus I think they know what they are doing and am not quite sure we do]
  18. Define "recently". We have averaged only about 4,000 fans per game with winning teams the past few years. I would like for us to build a new women's soft ball park where our other dedicated athletic facilities are and use their old park and surrounding area for football game parking.
  19. The State of Texas does not pay for athletic facilities such as a "NEW PITT''. I have no idea what a 6,000 seat basketball arena as described would cost but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the dirt to fly. I assume it's going to take a lot of donor money to get to the point where the balance can be bonded out. Perhaps someone can put a $ estimate on it.
  20. The problem is that on t.v. you can't tell what this is. R.V. wanted "NORTH TEXAS" on helmets when were were on t.v. in order to better advertise the university.
  21. In order to have a much improved defense we need much improved players. Replacing starters from a terrible defense with existing players who couldn't make the starting rotation won't get us to where we need to be.
  22. On another note, its my understanding that both Littrell and Baby Briles are in running for TCU O.C. position .However Briles is getting push back by some alumni and fans because his association with problems at Baylor when his father was coaching. Take it with a grain of salt.
