Our AD made a MASSIVE mistake with this HC hire
wardly replied to Travis's topic in Mean Green Football
It's just the 1st game of the season so I am with holding judgement as we really don't know how good Cal is or how bad we are. Regarding attendance, 20,000 is our average so why would we expect it to be any better. Check out our home game opening attendance for the last 10 years for comparison .The student section was sparse , which has been an ongoing problem for decades, plus I assume students who might have attended went home over the Labor Day weekend. A poor on field product is normally reflected by poor attendance. However when Fine had his two great years the attendance meter didn't budge much if at all. -
I can only surmise that if Seth had beaten Boise in the Frisco Bowl Wren wouldn't have fired him. Otherwise his dismissal would have occurred after the UTSA loss.

140 less than SMU

Surely you jest! We had the ball for only 20 minutes and had 10 first downs. Our defense couldn't stop a pee wee team. And if we are not USF we certainly played like the Bulls tonight. Give the program 2 to 3 years and we should be in good shape for the future.

What if Seth really was a good coach?
wardly replied to cousin oliver's topic in Mean Green Football
This guy is right. We went from being a mid CUSA team to at this point being a mid to bottom AAC program. We had no defense when Seth was here and we don't have one now. Our offense got 10 first downs tonight and had the ball only 20 minutes. We will need at least 2 to 3 years to turn the program around. Cal was just a much better team tonight. This is college football. Stuff happens. Just ask Baylor who lost at home tonight to Texas State and Texas Tech who got beat by Wyoming. -
Who should the AAC add to replace SMUt?

Just got an ESPN flash that Aresco is currently in talks with Army A.D. No details -
Who should the AAC add to replace SMUt?
wardly replied to Jonnyeagle's topic in Conference ReAlignment
I think the question might be "who could" the AAC replace SMU with rather than " who should." -
No Westward expansion for the AAC?

Good decision. Do we need a football only replacement for SMU? -
AAC not interested in Oregon State or Washington State.

I had a senior moment . Forgot U Conn left the AAC. -

Thanks for the information! Thoughts on U Conn football only? -
AAC not interested in Oregon State or Washington State.

Wasn't U Mass kicked out of the MAC for not investing in their athletic program? And please, no more Texas or Florida schools. WK and MTSU were invited into the MAC when CUSA imploded . WK wanted to go,MTSU didn't . -
AAC not interested in Oregon State or Washington State.

They have stated several times that they are not interested in a football conference and prefer an independent schedule. However, that could change. U Conn for football only? -
AAC and MWC Pitching PAC for Expansion
wardly replied to chrisfisher's topic in Conference ReAlignment
I don't know if its true, but just heard on radio 1310 Sports that the PAC 12 is due $65 million for its share of NCAA basketball money. They also said that you must be a member of the PAC 12 to get a share and that those who left get nothing. That leaves the PAC 2 due $65million, BUT they must be a viable conference to collect otherwise they get nothing. To be a viable conference you need 6 members within the next two years and/or a plan to gain up 6 members in 2 years. The MWC buyout drops back to $17 million in 2025 and I'm not sure what the AAC's is. The PAC 2 could use the $65million to help offset conference buyouts but that would leave them in a small conference with no media contract. Since the MWC buyout is still cost prohibitive at $17 millionin 2025 the PAC 2 could poach 6 AAC schools, kicking in up to $10 million per program to help with the buyout. That gives them 8 programs in a G5 PAC 8 conference with no media contract. Interesting times. -
The members of the ACC are locked in for another decade and can't buy their way out. The only schools I have heard that might garner interest from the BIG 10 and SEC are North Carolina and NC State. Naturally this could change if the ACC implodes . While I doubt they will, and also doubt whether the ACC would be a preferred landing spot for those left behind, but that discussion is down the road. However the AAC is in serious discussions with OSU and WSU so I certainly could be wrong. Regardless of whether we gain the PAC TWO or not with SMU apparently leaving it looks like the need to add another program in the near future. The MWC schools have buyout problems of their own for the next two years. Aresco's recent addition of 6 programs were geared towards large markets where schools have committed to invest in their athletic programs, although I don't see much out of Rice. The only reason I suggested Georgia State from Atlanta is the size of the university, the apparent financial commitment to athletics, and the huge market which is sandwiched between Charlotte, Ft. Lauderdale, and Birmingham .

This feels like the biggest home game ever
wardly replied to Ross Hodgeson's topic in Mean Green Football
No, Florida State played in Denton during the Fry era. A blue norther with a lot of snow came in and we lost by a few points. -
So even if OSU and WSU move to AAC, we still need a program to replace SMU. My vote is for Georgia State, which gets us in the Atlanta market. Think of them as a much larger Charlotte in a much larger city and state.

Looks like ACC about to add SMUt Cal and Stanford
wardly replied to Jonnyeagle's topic in Conference ReAlignment
The Longhorns have done the least with the most. While not a P5 program I always though La. Tech did the most with the least. -

Speaking of fund raising, I just watch "30 for 30" a few hours ago and the 2 hour program was the history of SMU's " Pony Express " and how they got the " death Penalty." Interesting timing. -
Did you include Wichita State for all sports except football?
