Hayden Fry was unable to change our culture and neither has anyone since his departure.

This guy was coach of year in MWC last year. Tough crowd.

A&M will just pass the hat among their alumni . In fact, they probably already did before firing him. The A.D. who hired him might have problems as well.
-
Well it sure isn't for "defense."
-
So that's the problem for poor attendance to UNT sporting events. We are just too close to DFW. Wait, I thought we had 100,000 alumni in DFW.

If memory serves most of those players were recruited by Dodge. Also, wasn't that nearly a decade ago?

Not riled up, and appreciate the data. My point is that our lack of a consistent defense has been a recurring problem since Darrell Dickey left nearly 20 years ago and has yet to be addressed.

So it's been a number of years since the Mean Green was Mean on defense. While our current defense is at the bottom of the NCAA barrel we have been in the well for quite a while regardless of who was coaching, which brings me to the assumption that for what ever reason UNT has not been able to recruit and keep the quality of players necessary to get Mean again. Also, for those of us who thought this was not going to be a rebuilding year my question to them is why? The defense players that came back from last year were not exactly stellar. Just asking.

So we have the worst defense in D1 football. We have been heading that direction for the past few years , but does anyone remember in the past 25 years when we were really good?

I think good facilities just levels the playing field. If your venue, practice facilities, locker and weight room's, etc are similar to Fouts Field or the old Men's Gym then you are in world of hurt. Its an arm's race, and we must keep up with the competition. Having said that, I don't know how we can justify spending $75 million or so for a new basketball arena in today's uncertain athletic environment. A new arena would need to be funded like our football stadium was, as use of state money is not allowed in Texas.

hope you are correct

My point is that the La. Tech fan base wanted Holtz gone and like us this season are non the better for it . I always though La. Tech under Holtz made the most with the least while schools like A&M made the least with the most. I have nothing but respect for Holtz and glad he finally got big payday in Birmingham.

Or was it "Defense of the Dead?"

I don't know about barely. I went to OU game his 1st year and Sooner's ran up something like 70 points on us.

Worst Defense in AAC and Solid Case for Worst in FBS

Like Jerry Jones? -
I agree a change needs to be made but I don't see what a mid season termination does for us. I would just play the hand dealt us this season and begin an exhaustive search for a 2024 replacement.

La. Tech pushed Skip Holtz out and have suffered for it. Also being blocked entry into the SBC by Louisiana and ULM didn't help but this was a case where the chickens came home to roost.

Be careful what you wish for. We felt the same way about Littrell.
