FIU just beat our butts. The Memphis loss is a bitter disappointment and the Navy game should of been won as well. However I am tired of going to piss ant bowls with 5&7 and 6&6 records. The "made up" bowl in Frisco last year was an embarrassment as was the attendance. We must win 8 or 9 games in order to get to a decent bowl such as Armed Forces Bowl in Ft. Wort. The only down side of sitting at home is the extra 15 days of practice we lose.

With SMU leaving and Army being football only
wardly replied to outoftown's topic in Conference ReAlignment
My personal opinion is that we need a basketball school to join as Wichita State did and balance Army's football only membership. It is my understanding that in 2025 the punitive exit fees self imposed by the MWC disappear and that the PAC 2 will cobble together an 8 team conference by poaching SDSU, Fresno State,UNLV, Boise, Colorado State , and the Air Force Academy leaving SJSU, New Mexico, Utah State, Nevada Reno,Wyoming, and Hawaii behind. The Mountain West could snatch UTEP and NMSU from CUSA and live to fight again. However, I wish to go on record stating that in all the conference realignment that has occurred in the past few years I have never been right in any of my predictions . I thought that geographic proximity to existing conference membership was important but the Big 10 blew that away. SMU, CAl, and Stanford's admittance to the ACC will never make sense to me. They bring no fans, no t.v following ,and the money used by them to buy their way in will be long gone when the ACC implodes. With the realignment pot stirring I vote with SALSA VERDE in hoping that we gain a MVC basketball member soon, but I am not in favor of poaching football programs from the SBC unless it is Georgia State, which gets the AAC into Atlanta. -

Our commissioner said after adding Army that we were not looking for another Wichita State . While he loves the Shockers he doesn't want to be another Big East which became a hodgepodge conference at the end. However,in my opinion,if the right Basketball school became available he might change his mind. -

Or our players.

Assuming we beat UAB, we were just 40 seconds away [ vs Memphis] from being bowl eligible.

Agreed. I was freshman in 61' and was fortunate to watch him play in the original PITT. If memory serves Johnson was coach, Savage was 2nd team all conference, and we were DAL every year in the Missouri Valley Conference. At that time the MVC consisted of Cincy, Louisville , Drake, Bradley , Wichita, and probably a team of two that I can't remember. John Savage was the best UNT basketball player that I have ever seen playing in the strongest basketball conference we have ever belonged to.

It's hard to establish a brand when your helmet logo is different every football game.

Didn't SMU run the 3/3/5 against us or am I dreaming? -

It appears the new Texas State coach has done a nice job using the transfer portal. -

Not with the players he has on defense. Also, why Tulsa a C- and UNT a D- when both have a 3&7 record? -
Didn't Rex go to prison for dealing drugs? Plus Jitter nearly did for siphoning restricted funds to the Athletic Department. I think Hayen got out while the getting was good. Additionally football attendance averaged about 13,000 per game so no one was beating down the door to support the program despite his best efforts.

Hayden Fry was unable to change our culture and neither has anyone since his departure.

This guy was coach of year in MWC last year. Tough crowd.

A&M will just pass the hat among their alumni . In fact, they probably already did before firing him. The A.D. who hired him might have problems as well.
-
Well it sure isn't for "defense."
-
So that's the problem for poor attendance to UNT sporting events. We are just too close to DFW. Wait, I thought we had 100,000 alumni in DFW.
