  1. Guys, the handwriting is on the wall for G5 and 1AA programs as regards media deals. With the NIL making it more attractive for G5 players to enter the transfer portal, the exceptional players they have will migrate to P5 programs. In addition the monied programs will break away and create a new division and take most of the media money with them. The rest of us, and there will be a bunch as not all programs who now compete at the P5 level will be able to afford the new table stakes, will be fighting over the table scraps that are left. Picture Oklahoma State playing on Wednesday nights instead of Akron. Just an old mans opinion, and I hope I am dead wrong. In addition, until the smoke settles it is hard for UNT to justify spending $20million on upgrading current athletic facilities .
  2. Don't forget that there is a spring transfer portal as well.
  3. 7 according to 247 sports.com
  4. It may be the death of some if not most G5 programs but there is something that can be done about it . Let the 4 power conferences break away. They get the vast majority of the best players anyway. Then the G5 programs set a minimum NIL amount that its "members" must meet in order to stay at the G5 level. The schools that either can't or won't meet the minimum will be reclassified as 1AA programs. This will cause some conference realignment and probably the creation of a few new 1AA conferences but if conferences like the AAC are not proactive schools like North Texas are hosed.
  5. UNT has 23 players in the transfer portal. Other programs with new coaches coming in are Houston ,no entries, Tulane, 1 entry, and Texas A&M, 8 entries. Granted this may change but from what I can tell 23 players is a really big number.
  6. I just counted 109 quarterbacks that have entered the transfer portal YTD.
  7. I wish you were right, but for the better players the portal is a way to get paid for playing, and I cant blame them.
  8. I wish that our head coach or A.D. would address this unprecedented loss of players. It's gotten where the old joke of the last one leaving turn off the light applies.
  9. YTD we have 23 players in the portal which is twice as many as any other program that I am aware of. This seems more like leaving a sinking ship rather then just testing the waters.
  10. Went in portal today for a total of 23 UNT players ytd.
  11. The MWC commissioner seems really good.
  12. This is very interesting. Thanks for the post !
  13. However I can see why you would think that. I should have posted my response separately instead of adding to to your post. My bad.
  14. Didn't say you did. I was referring to the other posts that do.
  15. No one criticized Willy Fritz when he jumped to Houston for more money and a better opportunity. Why are we bashing players for doing the same thing?
  16. The NIL is not limited to just football. It is spreading to other sports as we speak.
  17. It's still a second rate bowl regardless of where it is played. Also, red ant bites sting.
  18. I went to Frisco Emerson / Collyville Heritage game Friday night. Frisco won 59 to 47 . Their quarterback passed for 3 touchdowns, ran for 3 more, and is committed to OU. The Collyville quarterback also passed for 3 touchdowns, ran for 2, and according to DMN has an offer from UNT.
  19. Brain fart. I actually have been to Fenway Park and saw the Red Sox host the Yankees.
  20. So the reward for winning the AAC championship is playing 6&6 B.C. in a second rate bowl in New York? In fact, I think most of our bowl opponents are 6&6. Not a big step up from CUSA and SBC conferences.
  21. The Sun Belt has 12 teams with bowl bids.
  22. Point being that the portal can either benefit or damage a program. The NIL only benefits P4 programs with deep pockets and hurts the rest of us. You are correct in that everyone knows that but those of us with underfunded athletic programs and reluctant donors will have a hard time overcoming this disadvantage and I don't know how you work within it.
  23. The portal has changed college football as it gives opportunities for athletes who are not getting playing time to seek an opportunity elsewhere and those that successful to play at a higher level, which is where the NIL probably comes in. It may be legal but it will ruin college sports as we know it. There is no way the G6 programs can pay their players as much as P4 schools, which should bring about a split in D1 athletics. The P4 schools will remain D1, G6 schools become D1a, and the D1aa programs remain where they are. Just an old man's opinion.
  24. There are a lot of good quarterbacks moving to the portal this year.
  25. They are on a one year scholarship that may or may not be renewable , so they owe the college university nothing.
