don't count out missouri, which would let either tcu or ark in the big 12.
-
either that or the new coach at kansas
-
i do wish that rv would bring a 1aa team to fouts to replace k.state. the major conference schools do it with regularity, and even smu played sfa this season. this would give td a much better chance to be 7&5, which would be great for our program going into our new stadium. its not as much about td to me as it is having a winning season our last year in fouts.
-
i assure you that while the same staff will be returning, it is not buiness as usual. rv and td spent mon/tues basically reviewing the season play by play, game by game. i agree that our kicking game sucks, and cost us wins against ulal, army, and a-state just to name a few.my position concern is rilley at qb. he is a good kid who give everything he has of the field. however, he is just not big enough for d1,injury prone, and his arm strength is suspect. we had 27 turnovers going into a-state,most of them his interceptions.how do you coach to improve that? he grew up with td's system. granted he throws a lot of passes, but still.....

we are in violent agreement.

half a loaf is better than non, and regardless of who payed what, rv got it finished. the stadium and tennis center was paid for in part by alunmi donations, and in greater part by students, as it should be. to my knowledge, our students pay less that any other sun belt student body in athletic fees. regarding 2002, students weren't ready for change, similar to the Bush administration, and look at us now.finally, i m not saying that hiring td was a mistake, but the only people who have never made a hiring mistake are those who have never hired anyone, which on balance certainly is not a firing offense based on rv's overall contribution to athletics.

you are nuts! with the exception of events arena, untill rv arrived we had the same athletic facalities that were here in my freshman year 1961. who do you think got the football stadium done, athletic center, tennis center etc. regarding td, rv met with him monday and tuesday to review program and make sure they are both on same page. question, who do we have a better chance to win within 2010? we will find out next year. but fire rv if it doesnt work out and complain about his lack of fundraising. you are really nuts!
-
the decision will be made monday. if the president is involved, i would anticipate a coaching change. this is not a altogether a won/loss decision, as td was handed a bucket of mud regarding academics, discipline, as well as a late start in recruiting his 1st year. in addition, the new stadium promised him when hired was several years behind schedule. my biggest complaint is that he put loyalty to his hs assistants above the university who hired him. however, we must bear some of the responsibility for allowing him to bring his entire hs staff with him. the situation reminds me of when i fired a salesman who was popular with his customers even though they wouldn't buy from him. all i did was piss them off, which may happen with area/state hs coaches. could be a no win situation for rv.

cal did something similar against sc this year. looks like no love lost in pac 10, at least in california. having said that, i have never seen a baseball, basketball, or hockey team try not to score, so whats the big deal?

d.d. made some mistakes, but he won the conference and went to n.o. bowl 4 straight years, something no nt coach had ever done before. as for t.d., i think he lost 9 games this year by 4 points or less. if he wins just 4 of them, goes 6&6. he looks like the coach we hoped we had hired 3 seasons ago. tough way to make a living. however, coaches and preachers are hired to be fired, right, wrong, or indifferent.you make the call.

i don't think you don't need to pay an outside consultant company . it appears to me that you look at your present offensive system, your existing players, and find a successful o.c. in with a similar scheme, such as univ. of houston.i don't think we have the $ for anyone other than that, unless its a successful 1aa head coach. what we can't do is change offensive systems.that would take us another 3 years to bring in players and our goal is to win in "10" so that we kick off 2011 in new stadium with a good team.
-
we are in a catch 22. td and the new stadium are connected, as we point to a winning season in 2010 as a prelude to new stadium opening in 2011. the question rv has before him is a] keep dodge , and hope the 6 losses by less than a touchdown in 09 will turn into wins in 2010, or b]replace him now, and hope a new coach can turn losses into wins next year. who do we have a better chance to win with next year? td, or someone like the oc at houston? it would have to be someone who runs the same type of system we have in place based upon the players recruited in the past 3 years. you make the call.

A Riley Question For Some Of You Experts
wardly replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
rilley appears to be a good kid, and a real competator. having said that, i just don't think he can phycially handle the pounding i d1 qb takes. in addition, his arm strength is suspect. put the two together, and you have a qb who is injury prone with an unacpetable turnover rate, regardless of whether he is a redshirt freshman or senior. -
because turnovers, unlike the market, should be fixed early in the season. if you are 11 games in and have 3 interceptions and a fumble by your starting q.b., it appears to be either a coaching or player problem.

26 turnovers in 11 games vs 12 takeaways. are we #1 in nation?
-
thanks for info. do you have dates for tourney? i went last year and had great time.
-
if i didn't have a clue, i would not have posted this information. i should have stated, that after the interview their was no interest by either party. happy now?

It Starts And Ends With The Head Coach!
wardly replied to meangreenbob's topic in Mean Green Football
from the mid 70's to mid 80's tcu averaged 2 wins per season. it just takes time and money to turn a program around. we have the time, smu has the money. -
their was no interest by either party.
-
their average attendance has remained steady at 35,000 while ours is stuck on 15,000. however, they are the only game in a much larger town than denton. winning cures a lot of ailments.

Rick Villareal Should Not Be Allowed To Hire Our Next Hc
wardly replied to UNT_playmaker's topic in Mean Green Football
none of those you mentioned would come to a school whose average attendance is 15,000+, plays in an outdated statium, and pays only $275,000. you get what you can afford to pay for. -
cash was about$4.5million. rest will be bond money and student fees.
-
t.d. will get next year for 2 reasons. 1st, regardless of won/loss record we are reluctant to pull trigger on him because most coaches deserve 4 recruiting seasons, hence a 5 year contract. 2nd, all our financial resourses have been and still are directed towards our new stadium. we just don't have the money to buy him out. just grin and bare it for 1 more season and let chips fall where they may.

i doub't if you have seen enough n.t. games to know the difference between a quaterback with a good game vs. one with a good name. also, who else besides n.t. offered rilley a spot as q.b.?
