  1. big 10 a.d.s meet june 1st. we should know something then.
  2. as long as its your farm.some of his expansion , especially west, adds almost no tv sets. ie, nevada, newmexico, etc.
  3. tcu refuses to play us as well.don't know about utep, but our new stadium will afford new options for home&home scheduling.
  4. if/when conference realignment happens in the next 18 months or so, cusa eastern division could be adversely impacted. should ucf, ecu, or memphis end up in big east, then the belt is main conference for their replacements. the belt might then have a need for 1aa programs on the way up to 1a, such as texas state and utsa. i am only suggesting that the belt and unt be more pro-active. i also would much rather see tx st and utsa play in denton than fau/fiu.just an opinion.
  5. sort of like usa's new football program. i assume the belt wanted them because of the large mobile market[yawn]. i don't think utsa is going away, and i would bet if they are successful they will get a slot in cusa instead of us or la. tech. also, it would be nice to have a natural intrastate rival such as texas state or utsa. ours with smu is fairly one sided. we dislike them, they could care less about us. just an opinion.
  6. i don't understand why 1] unt is not being proactive in scheduling utsa, and 2] why the belt has not, to my knowledge, made membership overtures to them. look at the market! i bet that if the belt doesn't offer membership, cusa will at some point. in addition, a north texas game in the alamodome would not hurt recruiting in south texas.
  7. i agree with you except for ou/ok.st to sec. with them still in big 12, that leaves 7 schools to merge with mountain west for a 16 team bcs conference. this is not about academics. its about increa$ing t.v. revenue.
  8. there is real concern in big 12 that when pac 10 takes colorado, and if big 10 takes missouri, then sec might expand to 16 teams adding fla. st. and miami to lock up florida tv market, and texas a& m plus u.t. to do the same in texas. when smoke clears, big 12[now big 8] would raid m.west. all speculation, but if big 10 destroys big east, then bcs conferences would be pac 10,big 12/m.west combo,sec,acc/big east combo, and big 10. more money for the bigs. the bozo could be right. we should know in next 18 months.
  9. lets think outside the box just for fun. assuming biger is better because of tv revenue, 1] big 10 adds rukers,n.dame, missouri,,pitt, and syracuse to go to 16 schools 2] sec adds texas, texas a&m, fla.st.' and miami to go to 16 schools 3]remaining 10 acc and 5 football playing big east schools merg., plus cfu, to go to 16 schools 4] pac adds utah and colorado to go to 12 5] remaining 8 big 12 and 8 remaining m. west schools merge to go to 16 schools 6] that leaves mac, wac, sunbelt, and cusa still looking at each other.look at the tv market sec and big east pick up. just a thought.
  10. poor attendance didn't help penders cause, with average of only 3,200 per game. that, plus b. gillispie availablity and past history with houston's a.d. at utep were deal breakers.
  11. from what i have read on college football conference realignment,no changes will occur with mid/major conferences until big 10 and pac 10 have expanded. since its all about money, one objective of big 10 expansion could be to cripple big east so they will no longer be considered a bcs conference, and the big 6 become the big 5. in addition, the pac 10 expansion could kill mountain west bcs hopes. just an opinion.
  12. after attending the kansas state game, it appears we need to make 2 changes to our program:1] add a starting guard taller than 5'8&1/2, and 2] toughen our ocs so that when we do get a ncaa bid, we will be higher than a 15 seed. i think that while its nice to win 20 games, it does little for your seeding if you have a low rpi. we might use w.k.,middle tenn., or even sam houston as an example.just an opinion.
  13. i just googled unt administrative polices. under hiring practices, 03.206, "posting of position openings". policy #2 says 5 days for regular teaching positions thru h.r. does a coaching position for our student athletes fall into this catagory?
  14. i think you are accurate in your comments. just because we post a teaching position for a specified length of time does not necessarily mean we can't commit to an individual before hand, but probably must wait until after posting date to make it official. if there is a 30 day waiting period, i t must be university policy, not state.
  15. great update! any idea what we are going to do to resolve our punting woes?
  16. i don't have a clue how to stop turnovers, and agree with you that something must be done to address our kicking woes. we have a f.g.kicker comitted from richardson, but need a new punter. regarding the o.c. position, it is my understanding that besides play calling, he must be decisive. example, late against army we we deep in their territory, 4th & short, and didn't have a play. we called time out, went for field goal which was blocked , and lost game. better yet, lsu thru a hail mary pass late in game, which was successful, but hadn't called a " what if it works play", ran out of time and lost game. i never played football past jr. high, but it appears we need an offensive field gereral. those with more experience in organized high school/college than i would have a better idea as to the job requirements, but i would pefer someone with experience that is within our budget.
  17. maybe you are right. maybe he is the greatest thing since sliced bread and would make a great oc. based upon your coments, i hope he gets the opportunity. my concern is can we afford to take a chance on someone with no oc experience going into a make or break season for our existing staff?
  18. i saw him on espn being introduced as tenn. coach and was impressed. i think he will be a good hire, even if he was about their 3rd or 4th choice. also, i think he was only ad at la tech so they could combine salaries in order to hire him.
  19. on 2nd thought you guys are right. lets hire an o.c. with 1 game experience. it seem to have worked well with our head coach.
  20. "what do you want, what do you need, what are you willing to pay for? "bottom line: we can't afford $200,000 for an o.c. we all have budgets, both in our personal and professional lives, and he is just not affordable. our alumni continue to have champaign tastes and a beer pocketbook.
