  1. There is a lot of information yet to be processed. Is the NCAA going to require a certain number of sports? How will woman's sports be affected? Where is the money going to come from on a go forward basis? What will be the value of AAC t.v contract once the P4 conferences spin off? Would the G6 schools be better off by being pro active , leave the NCAA, and develop their own rules for membership? We will need to do it sooner or later when the P4 conferences move on. Also, the legal rights of college athletes is driving this and the NCAA is powerless to prevent change .
  2. What happened to our undersized receiver/punt returner drafted in 5th round a few years ago by Tampa Bay? I know he got cut in 2nd or 3rd year bur lost track of him.
  3. I don't think we really know how this is going to play out. At first blush it appears that the G5 schools will be a farm club for the P5's in football and men's basketball Also, I assume there will no longer be a requirement to fund a specified number of sports, but just a guess. If not, where is the money coming from? I doubt UNT students will vote to increase their athletic fee., and our alumni have historically [with a few exceptions] provided little in the way of a financial commitment to our Athletic Department.
  4. It's because they are. Deal with it.
  5. Chuck Curtis, 1956 TCU Horned Frogs. Curtis was coaching at UTA when they dropped football. He was a good coach but pushed the boundaries when it came to NCAA rules. All the players were immediately eligible to play so Curtis could have taken the whole team, which was pretty good, with him to his next stop. However there was no next stop as he received no coaching offers.
  6. Well that is apparently is how it works and appears to be legal, legal, legal.
  7. There has to be some coordination between who a player the coach wants and how much the player is offered from NIL. Looks like the AD is the middle man. Also I am guessing that state laws can come into play as well.
  8. Just asking but I am wondering why it would not be legal if they just choose the players and not directly handle the NIL money. Basically picking a player and then getting a buyer and a seller together.
  9. We can't afford to be a P5 program even if we had the opportunity. When it comes to alumni giving we are the Lean Green, not the Mean Green.
  10. The ACC contract appears to be iron clad. It's difficult to find a sympathetic judge when your case is basically that the contract you agreed to years ago was unfair. It appears to me that the ACC is here to stay until their present agreement runs out. I just don't think you add 3 programs if you plan to dissolve the conference as soon as possible but that's just me. In addition, besides being a UNT fan I enjoy college sports, and having the opportunity to see ACC teams play in Dallas and Big 12 in Ft. Worth works for me.
  11. You are correct. It's time for some of the minor bowls to bite the dust anyway.
  12. I would mirror the existing 1AA football playoff system using the minor bowls as sites simply because this would be the path of least resistance. There is no way the G6 programs are included in the P4 playoff plans when they spin off. Once that is accomplished then you approach geographical conference realignment with the understanding that it is going to be a hard sell. The P4 schools could be called D1, G6 schools D1A, with the existing 1AA classification remaining the same. It works in high school and would work in college as well. Schools could be classified either by NIL funds or total athletic budget. Based upon historical alumni giving North Texas will struggle to be competitive in NIL funding.
  13. What new arena? Until the smoke clears and the P5 and G5 programs truly separate I would be very reluctant to spend millions on bricks and sticks if I am UNT. The 70 or so P5 programs are going to take most if not all the tv money with them when they go and basically the G5 programs will be gate revenue sports as well as a farm system for the rich and famous.
  14. I meant "Texas D1 athletic programs."
  15. With a few exceptions UNT has been at the bottom of alumni giving in D1 athletic programs and I doubt that will change. The NIL more so that the transfer portal is our achilles heel .
  16. This decision was decided in the courthouse, not the NCAA, who has little power left.
  17. I guess our polo pony is not horsing around.
  18. Is no one happy where they are?
