Do they have a top assistant ready to make the move up?
-
Just guessing but perhaps our new president didn't want to rock the boat with staff. At the end of the day it was his call.

In the real world people look for ways to get things done. In academics not so much.

Being a basketball school is more than W's and L's. Its about student cheeks in the seats, support from administration, and NIL dollars, not cents, from alumni. Until we ring all the bells we are a basketball school want-a-be.

Women must go on road as well, playing at Troy instead of at the Super Pit. Houston looking for a new women's head coach and perhaps we will as well.[hope not]

Wren catching a little heat over hiring. Looks like WVU fans and media were surprised, graded hire between C+ and B.

Do we have the guy? Hodge was a no brainer but what about the staff now?
-
We do have an identity, which is hard nosed defensive basketball. I would love to keep that and get rid of the rest, which is very little support from students, administration, or alumni. The Troy coach did a great jog at UTA under the same set of circumstances but might not want to revisit them. Coaching hires for the most part seemed to be based upon the buddy system. Our AD's job is to fine some buddy who knows how deep the water is.

We fired him. I think he is done with basketball.

Like the OSU fans did last night.

Hodge a top replacement candidate at WVU

Utah State head coach turns down WVU to stay at USU. Surprise since he coached at WVU under Huggins. This will be WVY 4th coach in 4 years. -
Could we have at least gotten a return game?

This was NIT decision. We had no bargaining leverage in this so the Cowboys owe us squat.- 1 reply

What kind of scheduling conflict?!

It starts as a grass roots movement within the student body. Good luck with that. -

You are 100% correct! The fact is that athletics is not that important at North Texas and never has been. Not to the students, administration, nor alumni and until it is we will always be sucking hind tit. -

These events are probably scheduled years in advance which takes priority over a crystal ball projection into the future as to post season play for our basketball teams. In addition the DMN quoted our AD as stating that the Super Pitt floor had to be removed for the scheduled event. I am assuming that there wasn't enough turn around time to host both events on Tuesday. The announced attendance last night was 2,666. I was at the game and it looked like more but I am an old man with failing eyesight. With attendance such as this you are going to have a hard time convincing any administration to bump a scheduled event for athletics. -
I was just using this as an example of how one coach took the initiative to try and increase student participation at men's basketball games.I don't know if we have tried something similar but according to the article his efforts were well received.

I just read an ESPN article about coach Beard's efforts in getting more student participation at the Old Miss men's basketball games. He meets with the membership of the fraternities and sororities on an individual basis explaining how important is that their organizations support their men's basketball programs. Just think how impressed they are that he takes an hour of his time to address 125 or so students. At any rate I found it interesting and thought I would share .

Any idea as to if UNT is being pro active on this perceived opportunity or has very little interest?
-
Well I said that I was probably wrong.
-
I am probably wrong but if I had to guess[ I didn't look it up] the last time the AAC received an at large bid was when Cincy and Houston were still in the league.
-
Memphis beat us once this year and UAB 3 times. The Blazers won 2 of 3 against UNT. We beat them at home on a last second 3 pointer. Both teams were better than us. We are a one bid conference unless we have a nationally ranked team that loses the conference tournament.

Good list of candidates. -
Good point about air connections. Tampa might draw fans who want out of cold March weather.

On a scale of 1 to 10...How would you rate this season so far?
wardly replied to Big Z's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Grand Canyon averaged 6,700 attendance per game this year playing in the WAC. They are moving to the MWC next year where I would expect their attendance to be about double ours. They have no university football program and are actually in a major city as opposed to being 45 minutes away. If coaches income is comparable I would sit tight and see what unfolds .For example, UNLV is looking for a coach, and I think the New Mexico coach is moving upward but not really sure.
