Rumors That Mwc To Expand To 12; Byu To Go Indy
wardly replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
i may be really out in left field on this, but i really think cusa would like back in the south florida market, and really doesn't want another texas school.la. tech brings nothing to the table. ecu and marshall will push hard for an east coast addition, which i feel could be fau. they are our size, and also building a new stadium. i am a democrat, so you may take my opinion with a grain of salt. i also must admitt that i have missed the mark on expansion[big 10] as often as hit it[pac 10], and certainly didn't see the rapid demise of the wac[ see stock market, 2008] -
i think that mt. west will probably let utah st. in once byu goes independent. also, it appears hawaii following byu's lead, which kills the wac. new mexico st moves back to belt,as does la.tech. idaho and san jose drop down. utep is happy in cusa, and if houston does get mt. west invite, i would expect uab to move to western/cusa division with fau moving to east/cusa. overall, the east/cusa members think they hace enough texas teams, and want to get back into florida market. fau is our size, and building new stadium. just an opioion.
-
according to el paso times, utep loves being in cuas because of alumni access to games in dallas and houston. they express zero interest in moving to mt. west. if byu goes indepenent, i eould expect houston to get mt. west invite. i also feel that cusa will look east to fill that opening, moving uab west. my susprise pick as replacement is fau. they are building a new stadium, 30,000+ students,[sound familiar] and cusa would love to get back into florida for recruiting purposes. just an opinion.

the one thing missing on your list is fan support. if we don't support a winning men's basketball, what will we support? unless we grow attendance, we bring nothing to the table.
-
see tcu.[for same reasons smu doesn't want us in cusa]. also,i have a hard time believing utah state was invited. except for their basketball program, they bring nothing to the table.
-
how would a belt conference with n.mexico st, nt,a-state,ull,ulm,and la.tech in the west, fau,fi,middle,wk,troy, and s.ala. in the east play out? la tech is a natural fit, but n.mexico state has severe budget issues and is 600 miles from denton. i don't see what they bring to the table except a football team worse than ours.

It's Official Nevada To The Mwc With Fresno
wardly replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
we seem to have an inflated perception as to the value of our athletic program as relates to other mid-major conferences. why would we think that mt. west would have interest in us at this point in time? one problem that we have no control over is our location. tcu feels they have the dfw market, as does smu. this makes it extremely difficult for us to be considered by c/usa as well. [tcu faces the same issue with big 12]. although the wac has more lives than felix the cat, it appears they will soon be history. of the 6 remaining schools, 4 are former belt members. you must admire the mt. west. by destroying the wac, they probably prevented the loss of byu. if so, look for houston to become its 12th member. goals should be reasonable and obtainable, with a little pie in the sky. in my opinion, our goal should be to build our athletic program so that it has value when future conference change takes place, which it will.our cornerstone should be our new stadium, winning football team, and fan support for our programs. fan support is the key. our support of our mens basketball team is terrible. at present our fan base is "all hat and no cattle". unless we can increase attendance in all sports, successful or not, then we will always be on the outside crying to get in. the responsibility is ours, not administrations.the buck should stop with us. -
i went to university store and veortmans friday looking for a "mean green" or "eagles" decal. none available. all they have is " north texas". sorta like texas without a longhorn.
-
any idea how many season tickets we sell for football? basketball?
-
no way we beat clemson, troy, muts, of k-state. army and rice are winnable. out of remaining conference games, ull, ulm, fiu, and our annual designated win, wk, appear to be as sure a thing as we have. a-state and fau are tossups. worse case,4&8. best case, we split with army and rice, a-state and fau, to be 6&6. i will split the difference and predict a 5&7 season. our defense still is very poor, which i don't understand other than for some reason we can't sign and keep good defensive players or build any depth.
-
when you are ranked 110 out of 119 1a football programs its a little hard to schedule someone you can beat. it would be worse to get smoked by sfa or mcneese.

my point is that our entire athletic department is underfunded, and i see no sense in adding another expensive non-revenue producing sport. it is my understanding that the university of texas at austin funds the minimum number of sports necessary to be at a division 1 level, and throws money at each one. until we have a much larger athletic budget and greater financial support from alumni, we might try to be successful at those sports we already have before making additions.even then, the fan support for our winning mens basketball team, for example, is pathetic. i can't imagine any better support for a mens baseball team than we have for our womens softball team. just my sunny opinion.

i think this is just an extension of dislike for him by the entire state of tennessee.i doubt anything comes of it.
-
looks great. we are very fortunate to have someone like harry to create such a quality and professional format. thanks for all you have done and continue to do for NORTH TEAS.
-
why would you want to add another underfunded sport at north texas?
-
why is it that when a coach or player leaves for a better opportunity he/she is a quitter? have you ever ever made a job/career change that you thought would be for the better for you and your family. to say that everyone who leaves north texas is a quitter is b.s.
-
thanks, i just figured out f.y.i. this week.

not to get ahead of myself, but will 2011 be a rebuilding year for our head foot ball coach, whoever he is? i think we have about 23 seniors on this team, which is 1st or 2nd in belt, and are still picked next to last in conference play by most pollsters. this doesn't say much for the quality of this class, or t.d.'s recruiting.am i missing something here?
-
QFT MEANS WHAT?
-
DODGE MUST WIN 7 GAMES this season to return in 2011. the real problem is that whoever is coach next year must rebuild a team that has done nothing past 3 seasons, and is projected to achieve little this year. i see no light at end of tunnel.

4 green seats for family.

EXACTLY! in addition, new mex.st. has NO INTEREST in moving to belt.[ denton would be a 10 hr. drive, with all others futher west.]. a 10 team belt conference works well with 9 league games, 3 ooc. i would like to boot denver and ualr, and replace with utsa and texas st. when available. this would give us a west division with ark st., ull, ulm, utsa, and tex. st. wac is desperate to find a 9th school because of concerns regarding staying power of la. tech, who will not join belt as long as ulm is a member.if ulm were to drop back to southland because of finances, then la. tech might move to the belt. it will be interesting to see what consultant recomends. if it looks like cusa door to the future is closed, perhaps wac makes sense for us.

What North Texas' Uniforms Should Look Like
wardly replied to NThomas's topic in Mean Green Football
i like idea of green helment with all green uniforms for road and all white for home. i would put the "talon" on helment, "north texas" on front of jersy, and "mean green/eagle" shoulder patch. -
i would like to see a "talon"[eagle claw] on the helment, simular to clemson's use of a tigers paw. i would like to see green helments/uniforms simular to marshall's. i would like to see a winning team, simular to troy,s. i would like to see the north texas dancers wear even less, simular to the million dollar saloon. i would like to see the market at 14,000, simular to 1997/98. i would like to see well enought to find my meds,........
