  1. but not here. rv is the one getting a second chance, and should not bet his career on any coach fired from his last job regardless of the reason.
  2. i agree. too old,too predictable, too much money for a short timer, and at a&m, not too good. why do we focus on coaches fired from their last job?
  3. this is a great list, and i hope carthel is interviewed. question: do you think fran jr. at bjc will be considered?
  4. the following numbers are aproximate, so don't carve them in stone, but i think our oc and dc are paid about $100,000 annually. that is probably ok if your head coach is making about $275,000, but way short if its closer to $500,000, which is probably in the range an experienced hc will cost. if so, we will have to up our oc and dc to around $200,000, and top assistants in the $125,000 range. to bring in an experienced college staff in todays market could increase payroll $750,000 to $1,000,000 annually. just a guess and by golly.
  5. rick, love you,but if you can name them then there aren't enough to talk about. rilley couldn't stay healthy enough to play in the belt, vizza's teams won 2 or 3 games. point is i don't remember the last time we got a recruite that either of them wanted. i appreciate your passion for our football program, but feel that sometimes smoke gets in you eyes [pun intented] when it comes to evaluating our team and talent. we are the worst of the worst, and what a new stadium does is level the recruiting playing field.hopefully our new coach, whoever he is ,will be able to make inroads into the area's rich recruiting market, and you will be able to say "i told you so". until then, i hope we can agree that our new head coach will have his work cut out for him, and wish him well.
  6. i would like to think that we recruit the same level of players as tcu, or even smu, but the truth is we don't. outside of running back, i don't know of any position that our starters could get playing time. truth is that we havn't recruited at their level in recent memory, and regardless of who new coach is, i don't see any inroads being made into tcu's back yard, and probably not much into smu as well. we need to start by getting best of the rest, and then moving up the food chain. just an opinion.
  7. i think we need to get real as to what we offer a new head coach besides money. such as,1]a brand new state of the art stadium 2]the worst 1a program in the worst 1a conference 3]a small but loyal fan base starved for a winner that is more mouth than money 4]a chance to make a name for yourself by turning our program around a good academic university in an excellent recruiting area. i am sure i have left some negatives as well as positives off my list, but if we get a "name coach" its because something has gone very wrong in his career. having said that, i feel that rick can find a successful head coach who has the character to lead our football program. but he better be hungry.
  8. can anyone say that rick asked their opinion before dodge was hired? jonnie? womens bb coach? new golf coaches? any hire he has made since he has been here? i think we have an inflated sense of our influence.if he takes this board seriously then we probably need to start looking for a new a.d.
  9. what does one have to do with the other? we don't have a pickens or ford whose checkbook may influence coaching selections, so we can huff an puff all we want on this board, but rv is going to do what he thinks is best based upon input from people in the coaching profession, not a bunch of yahoos like us who throw nickles around like they are manhole covers.
  10. i don't know about you, but i read about ALL of ricks hires after the fact, especially dodge's.
  11. if you really wanted an answer, you would either reach out to the player or our acting head coach. since you won't ,quit carping about not getting an answer to a guestion that we don't know the answer to. i am curious as to how you would feel if a coach grabed your son by the throat and choaked him.
  12. i am not aware who has actually applied for our coaching position. it appears we are just blowing and going over nothing, as anyone who thinks we have any influence over the ultimate decision is nuts.
  13. why don't you ask the player? i'm sure you could track him down with all the information tools available now.
  14. makes you wonder how general george patton ever got fired for slapping a g.i. during ww2. now if he had been a football coach,........
  15. boys, lighten up.it was evidently defined by employers who have all the facts and made their decision based upon same. bottom line is r.v. can't afford to give either a second chance, since this will be his second chance. i am not being holier than thou, but am not supportive of hiring a coach who is suiting his previous employer. looks like a red flag to me. but hey, i was for hiring t.d.
  16. considering the posts supporting two coaches who were fired for abusing players,i just thought we would cut to the chase and go after the real deal. this post seems to fit in nicely with those. i would hate to post something considered idiotic by the boards legal experts.
  17. does anyone know if dave bliss can coach football? he seems to fit in with what we want.
  18. i don't think we can afford to take a chance on a former head coach with baggage after our last bad hire. i just can't believe that we can't find a successful head coach with character, instead of a retread who was fired from his last job. let some other program give these guys a second chance. we need to give someone a first chance. just an opinion.
  19. regarding ONE TIME hitting a player, suck one _ _ _ _ and you are a _ _ _ _ sucker forever.
  20. i don't know if football was any cleaner, but regardless i think you hit the nail on the head. its called "character", something those who abuse players lack, and what t.d. had in spades.
  21. i guess i expect a higher stander of conduct for teachers and preachers.
  22. just asking but he was a flop at a&m, just 5 games over 500 in 5 years. any reason why? good coaches usually don't get fired, unless they abuse their players or screw their sectuary.
  23. i have a hard time believing your version of his actions unless you were there.[ sounds more like the "grassey knoll" than actual fact.] i personally have no interest in hiring a coach whatever his record who was previously fired from his position for abusing his players in whatever fashion, and would no longer financially support out football program should we do so. i also would not hire a bully like bobby knight either. there are just too many good coaches with great character available. just my opinion.
