Phil Fulmer, Why Aren't We Considering Him?
wardly replied to Got5onIt's topic in Mean Green Football
i don't recall ever posting that i wanted a name coach, simply because the list on this board that i have seen are either not affortable or in my mind unacceptable. however, given that i am subject to memory as well as lapses in judgement,i could have, but don't think so.[ jerry moore replaced fry at unt, and lost as many as he won in his 2 years here.] i just want someone who has won at some level of college football and looks at us as a career opportunity, not redemption. having said that, coach chico is looking like he might be the man, especially if he beats la.monroe on the road.just an old man's opinion. -

i assume the fire department has financial guidelines for employees, as does our athletic department. -

depends upon why they were fired. however, you do make a good point. i just can't believe there is not a winning 1aa coach, for example, that would see us a a step up the ladder and that we can actually afford instead of a bcs retread just looking to get back in the game whom we can't afford.[i am guessing our salaty cap is about $500,000, but just a guess].all names with splash mentioned made about twice that amount if not more. -

i know i am beating a dead horse, but if he is so great, why was he fired from his last job? and why is our "name" coaching list comprised of only coaches canned? is this job not good enough to attract a canidate with successful head coaching experience who has not been recently terminated? why do we set our sights so low ? just asking. -
Tcu A D: No Big East Football-Only Membership For Tcu
wardly replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
if nova doesn't move up to big east in football [all other nova teams compete there], then best bet is cfu and/or ecu, who would jump at opportunity for football only status. -
good post.

whats a week without conference expansion speculation? the mean green nation needs to hope that tcu is offered and excepts a football only invite to big east.[ as probably will ucf. ]with the mt. west loss of utah, byu, and perhaps tcu,the mt. west t.v. value is zip, and dfw market wide open. mt. west has choice between smu and unt for presence in metroplex, and would probably take smu.cusa, needing a travel pardner for houston, and exposure in dfw, could then add unt. i have frog feaver! how about you?

you might consider flying a flag with a $ sign on it as well. enjoy.

if chico wins 3 of 5 games, he should get serious consideration. discounting k.state, winning 2 of 3 remaining conference games, 2 of which are on the road, would be a strong finish.

three hardest words i ever learned in business were "maybe youre right." -
since all the head coaches on this list appear to have been fired from their last job, why don't we wait until end of season when more will be terminated so we can expand our pool of candidates?
-
how about "never in my lifetime", as i am 67. also, dodge had name recogniation, which appears to me to be over rated. the only "name" coaches that i have seen, other than bower, were fired from their last job.

do you think any so called name canidates could beat troy and k.state at home, mtsu and monroe on the road with this years crippled team? i don't think so. so why demand coach chico do it?just asking. -
agreed, but what do we bring to the table? average mens bb attendance less than 4,000;football less than 18,000. no tv following. tough sell.
-
all any of us can give is only what we can afford to or want to. unt wants to be a player in texas, but realistically we will never have the financial resourses of any big twelve school, tcu, smu, or houston. but we should have an athletic program that is funded at the same level as utep, and we don't.untill we raise out collective level of giving, our eyes will always be larger than our pocketbook. two ways do this.1]keep squeezing the same boosters until they cry uncle, or 2]increase the number of giving units. hopefully our new stadium with a new coach will generate new boosters and new money. just an opinion.

agreed, and thank GOD for w.k., who accounted for half of t.d.'s victories. regarding coach chico, its unrealistic to expect wins against k.state and troy at home, and certainly mtsu on the road. both troy and mtsu are significantly better than us, and lead the belt. in fact, la.monroe beat troy at home last week, so a win there is not a given. i would like to see another win by coach chico, but more important to me is team effort and sound coaching for rest of season. he still in playing with 3rd string qb and center, as well as numerous other players out for the season. -
bull. all bald eagle did was to state the obivious, and you play the old guilt trip card.after our last failure, any name coach with baggage is a risk we should avoid, as we cannot afford another mistake.what has kept us down is lack of vision and leadership, which we now have, and lack of money, which we don't have.the alumni from north texas either don't have the disposable income to give, or have it and choose not to. untill that changes, we will always be north texas state college.

National Search Means Look For North Texas Officials
wardly replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
i apologize. i actually meant big pricks. better now? point i was crudely trying to make, i must admitt, is that we don't have huge donors like smu or texas. we are a nation of small givers. i'm sorry if you were offended by my analogy. please don't put me on double secret probation. -
