  1. brousing the mcw fan forums, the presidents seem to have a difference of opinion. wyoming, afa, colorado st., and new mexico appear to want to expand in existing footprint, which does not include dfw or houston. they meet again in january to discuss.
  2. back out texas tech and we are back to our 3,000 average attendance, which is poor considering our record. if fact, its not very good even when you include the tech game. what does it take for a university of 38,000 to support a winning program? if only 1% of students attended we would have a base to build on. i just don't get it. if i'm j.j., i'm out of here 1st chance i get.
  3. i doubt if the following qualifies as a "tripple dog dare," but the mwc presidents are scheduled to meet again in january to revisit expansion as well as other issues.f.y.i.
  4. the last time i made a simular comment,[little d---s], harry put me on "warn status", where i still languish.
  5. i am just asking a question, not making a statement. why would we want to be in mwc, wac, or big west? albuquerque is 700+ miles from denton, and would be our cloest rival. when we do play a team at home like baylor or k.state, what increases attendance is that those schools bring fans. nt does not travel well, and i don't see a lot of mcw fans making the trip to denton. i appears from the outside looking in that our travel expenses go thru the roof. we might get some tv exposure, but mwc network is not available to everyone, and we don't have a tv following. just asking.
  6. put this under "for what its worth". the wac fan board states from a "wyoming insider" that neither utep nor houston have any interest in leaving cusa for mwc. based upon smu's experience with the wac, i doubt if they have any interest as well. the mwc presidents meet again in january to discuss future expansion. as of now, it looks like usu and a player to be named later should they go to 12 , which is not a given.f.y.i.
  7. after hawaii anouncement yesterday, sdsu president, when asked about futher expansion, said utah was " too small to worry about". from brousing mwc fan boards, it appears mew mexico,afa,co.st., and wyoming want to add schools in their time zone, such as utep and utah st., while other schools are interested in dfw and houston markets. with loss of tcu, utah, and byu, there does not appear to be a dominate voice in mwc. [like texas in big 12]. i think presidents are scheduled to meet again in january.
  8. naming rights for football stadium cost $20million, which is about 25% of stadium cost. of $78million stadium cost,i was told alumni donated about $5+million, or aproximately 6.5%. based upon this, i don't know if we have a friend with deep pockets, but we could. i also think we will get the football stadium up and running before adressing baseball, as we don't have enough staff to properly do both at same time.i do have a question;of 120 schools that play 1a football, how many also have a baseball program? for instance, smu, colorado, and iowa state do not, and they have a lot more $ than north texas. just asking.
  9. i know its water under the bridge, but when you compair coach mac's staff to the high school coaches dodge brought with him, it just makes me want to.........[fill in the blank]. we are finally moving up to the big time!
  10. why? i have found them to be very accurate over the years as regards football. just asking.
  11. fyi, belt board had sarigan strengtn of schedule rankings. usa was 1st in belt with rating of 22, we were last in coferecnc with rating of 300+. i don't know what to make of such a low strength of schedule vs. ranked 10th in mid-majir poll.
  12. it goes back to geography.both ecu and marshall complain about distance between western rivals.i believe the following; ecu is not going to get invite to big east. that will go to cfu should nova turn down its standing offer and not comitt to move up to 1a by end of school year. marshall is not going back to mac. smu will never let us in same conference as them. la tech brings about as much market to the table as la. monroe. if you believe this, then it stands to reason that cusa moves memphis west and adds 1 or 2 teams in the east, depending upon their needs.just an old man's opinion.
  13. jon burkett followed up with ticket office today for me who said we sold 3400 tickets in 04'. will try to find out what team allotment is.
  14. 75% of stadium is 22,500. to get to 25,000 you are looking at nearly 85%. thats in rain, sleet, and snow. i think we have 2 factors in play. !st, when will the "new" wear off our stadium. 2nd, how fast can coach mac turn program around.
  15. especially against colorado state and cincy.so. miss was respectable, and memphis did o.k.but you are right, we were at least twice the vistots side, if not more.i must admit i don't know those numbers. i read this on a post from a journalist who was bashing belt and new orleans bowl.i read so many boards and posts that sometimes i loose track of who and where they are. i probably should have factchecked with our ticket department before posting, but gabe is gone and i don't know anyone in that department who was there 2000 thru 2004 . my bad. i will try to get specifics from athletic department if you want.
  16. that was with tcu, byu, and utah in mwc. i am sure there soon will be a large downward adjustment based upon loss of dfw and state of utah markets. thats a big piece of mwc pie gone.
  17. san jose, idaho, and nmsu are barely keeping head above water, and we both agree that utah state is basically a given. i don't know if houston would move or not, and the same goes for utep. if they want continued exposure in dfw its us or smu. i think their tv contract is up for renewal, so i would expect them to make a move in the next 90 days or so.
  18. ecu reminds me of la tech, except their football attendance averagers 40,000+ er game. however, they have no tv market, and no place to go. i think they are stuck, and if ucf does move to big east this spring, cusa might look to mtsu,wk, of fau to replace.just an opinion. plan b would be for belt and cusa to work out mississippi east and west conferences. which makes too much sense to happen. regarding utah state, mwc lost byu and utah, and wants presence in utah. utep might just stay put.
  19. salt lake city tribute reports hawaii to get official invite for football only to mwc this week, bringing conference to 10 football and 9 bb teams. article states mwc may stay where they are, but if they go to 12 utah st. and utep would get strong consideration. if utep goes, i would think cusa moves memphis west, and adds another team in east. marshall and euc complain that they are too far away from other east division members. that, coupled with possible loss of cfu to big east, is motivation to replace losses from mac or belt in the east. nova has open invitation for big east football, but must say yea or nay by end of school year.
  20. i talked to lane rawlings yesterday at a social function about nmsu hiring an outside marketing firm to look at their athletic program from a marketing perspective. he seemed interested, said he is a strong beliver in using outside consultants, and left me with the feeling he would follow up on that concept. i don't know him well enough to know if he was just telling me what i wanted to hear or was really interested. at any rate, time will tell.
  21. fiu @ 6&6, and troy @7&5 were belt co-champs ,but how do the mutts @6&6 get a bowl bid, and temple @ 8&4 with winn over u. conn. don't?
  22. i think he retired from florida 2 years ago but came back . also, he might have health issues.
  23. i read where urban myer announced his plans to retire after floridas bowl game, with formal news conference scheduled for monday, dec 6th. coach mccarney might of got out while the getting was good.regardless, great hire for north texas!
