  1. excellent summary! thanks for your thoughtfull answer, which answered my original question,at least for me.
  2. lets not get our panties in a bunch.i have a hard time believing that your reguest will not be accomodated. the goal is to sell club seats, not piss off long time supporters such as yourself. just send rick an e-mail explaining your situation and requesting clairfication. i assure you that he will respond in a positive manner.[rick.villarreal@unt.edu
  3. thanks for the heads up regarding this program. it was the most positive interview i have ever seen regarding unt athletics, and i go back to 3 channel black and white tv with rabbit ears and no remote.
  4. then who should we compair ourselves against? again, just asking.
  5. we averaged same the 2 years when we went to ncaa's, so i tend to discount our recent slump as reason for poor attendance. also, when we won 4 belt football championships in a row i don't remember a spike in basketball attendance ,so i tend to discount that logic also. it just appears to me that the 4th largest university in the state should be compaired to other large state schools, such as houston and tech. susprisingly we do about as well as houston, but not in ballpark when it comes to tech or utep. perhaps our benchmark should be utsa and uta. those schools are of simular size, either are or were commuter schools, play in a conference simular to ours in basketball, and are in large metropolitian markets. it would make us look good, but certainly is not where we want to be.again, just an old mans opinion.
  6. but we are not in cusa, and won't be as long as smu is. we are in the belt, and our real number is 3,500. if playing in the belt hurts bb attendance, what will it do to football in our new stadium? probably question for another day.
  7. which bodes another question; who should the 4th largest university in texas with 36,000 students compair their bb attendance to? the belt? tt,uh, sfa, utsa, uta?
  8. probably very true, but that doesn't mean that the bb program turned a profit that year. it probably just lost less.
  9. i don't begrudge jj a dime, as he has built an excellent program the past 10 years. however, attendance still hovers at about 3500 per game. for the sake of discussion, assume that 1,500 are students, and 2,000 are paying customers[i realize there is a student athletic fee, but i'm talking about gate receipts]. how much can north texas afford to pay a head coach? should it matter? with all the cost cuts in higher education in Texas, should athletics be held to a different standard? bottom line:is it ok to pay big bucks to a head coach whose program appears to loose money? just asking.
  10. i went to texas/n.texas bb game in austin a few years ago. they have same problem. one side yells "texas", other "longhorns", and then it just peters out like our "north-texas" chant . i understand the problem, but don't know the answer.
  11. how about one from the 60's;"hell no, we won't go!"
  12. isn't disgrace a little harsh? its not like we are cheating, throwing games or shaving points. we are just not playing well. this happens in all sports to all teams.
  13. i have not been there in person, but heard that HOG BAR has c&w music, and free drinks on fridays for all toothless women. word is that you need to arrive early to beat the crowd. however, this could just be another urban mith.
  14. should be able to drive and fine room for less than $100 per nite. best option would be to contact cooper jones at athletic department. he has a number of rooms blocked off at tourny rate, which offers slight savings.
  15. rv may be a lot of things to a lot of people, but he is a yes man to none.he has accomplished more in his tenure than all other unt ad's combined, and you don't do that by not standing up for your convictions.
  16. i have been to 2 games in past 4 years at their soccer field stadium. basically fau is a commuter school who is trying to develope a campus life.
  17. we can always look forward to their game with la/monroe in ft. worth next season.
  18. thanks for info. very nice offer.
  19. when you say "underwrite the entire program",what did that include? the cost of a new $5 million+ stadium, cost of coaches, equiment, scholarships, etc. i must have slept thru that. just asking.
  20. tickets in mail to john davidson.
  21. i have 1 free floor ticket, row 1,seat 2, to 1st snail mail adress sent to wardly@tx.rr.com. i actually have season tickets for seats 1&2, but have lost seat 1 ticket for this game. i'm sure if you explain this to floor ticket taker she will give you a pass. usually rick, josh, are cooper are around and they will help you if for some reason she won't. just tell them you are guest of ward white, who lost one of the tickets. enjoy, ward
  22. i have 2 on floor free to 1st snail mail address i receive[wardly@tx.rr.com]
  23. utsa is a commuter school, which is what we were in the 60's, and what uta still is. i would think they have minimal dorm space, and attract older students who work their way through college. this setting is not condusive to devoeloping a sense of "belonging", something we have struggled with for decades. i have a hard time believing they will be an overnight success as regards community support. by the same token, i wish them well. it would be nice if we had an intra state rival such as them or texas st., who i think could be more successful in the long run.
  24. on what do you base your statement that vito doesn't watch the games? just asking.
