However thanks for posting his comments after his injury. Seems like a tough kid.

I knew that, just wondering how he was doing.

Trey Smith has hosted a College Underdog podcast devoted to the AAC on Tuesdays and Thursdays for several years. However his last podcast was over a month ago and I was wondering if anyone knows if it bit the dust or not.

How about ours?

I just remember that the Chair of the University of Texas,[their old basketball arena was named after him]said that there would never be a " Texas State University " as long as he was alive. He didn't want any confusion, like the University of North Carolina and North Carolina State, etc. I don't remember any effort by them to stop us from becoming UNT but will defer to those with sharper memories. However I was surprised how easily the change from Southwest Texas State to Texas State seemed to occur. Also hind site being 20/20 we probably would of had more resources if, given the opportunity,[which I think we were] had become The University of Texas at Denton. Just an old man's opinion.

I was a freshman in 1961 when we changed our name from NTSC to NTSU.We did try to go to " Texas State but UT quickly killed that. Also, if memory serves, we were given the opportunity to join the UT system but turned it down.

Today's USA TODAY has UNT ranked 100th out of 134 D1 programs. Double digit ranked programs ahead of us include Memphis,Tulane,Army,Texas State,SMU,UTSA,ECU,Navy,Texas Tech, perennial powerhouse New Mexico State,Houston, and FAU.The AAC has 6 teams in triple digit, including 4 in the bottom 10. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

We will find out if we should be rated ahead of Tech this weekend [I think we are a 7 to 9 point dog] but no way we should be ranked ahead of SMU. Just my opinion.

Compound fracture means the bone fractured into several pieces and penetrated the skin, so it was not a clean break. The medical staff on hand did a great job with a super response time, which is a blessing. However as "RUDY" previously posted "these are gnarly injuries" and he will be fortunate if all he loses is his football career. I have no medical training but spent enough time in operating rooms in a sales capacity to be worried. Years ago a quarterback for the Washington Redskins, Alex Smith , had a compound fracture, rehabilitated his leg for about 2years [I think that was the time frame but not sure] , came back , played a year, and was named NFL Comeback Player of The Year. This is from the memory of an 81 year old geezer so my time line for his recovery might be off.

I sold and distributed orthopaedic implants for 30 years, and compound fractures are especially bad, especially to the lower leg. One of the major concerns is infection, because normally this type of traumatic injury is "dirty" . Another is blood flow to the affected area, which if disrupted could make healing the wound and obtaining union with the fragmented bones problematic. He needs all the prayers we can muster.

Nobody is being cute and funny this week, I wonder why?

Sometimes it's just hard for a team to "get up" for an opponent in a lower division , especially when you are a heavy favorite. I'm sure that was an issue with UH being thumped by UNLV in their opening game. You do have a P5 program don't you? -
23,500 was a decent turnout.

Try since 1961 and yes, i feel your pain. -
So didn't we hire our new football coach the same time Texas State hired theirs?

Interesting SFA trying to get RID of baseball

I think you meant that baseball does does not operate in the black, which is profit, vs. red, which is loss. I took basic accounting 101 three times to learn this. -

One major problem is lack of a venue. -
Agreed.

Harder to back fill with 1AA programs as cost for then to move up is now $5 million, not $50,000. The PAC 2 is going to make a move prior to the 2026 season by either rebuilding the PAC 12, joining another conference, or rebuilding. I don't see a sense of urgency to add programs and think that we should watch and wait and see what happens to the MWC and ACC. I don't see the ACC falling apart anytime soon and even if the MWC gets cherry picked by the PAC 2 losing 6 programs the remaining 6 can add NMST and UTEP . Just an old man's opinion.

SMU ranking surprises but I really don't know much about their program.

I can't agree nor disagree with the budget numbers as I really don't know. However a recent UTUBE interview with the OSU AD was very telling. He said that with NIL and the transfer portal athletic departments must be run like a business or they will fail. His example was that if a school supports 18 sports, only football is deemed profitable. In what universe does a business budget 17 out of 18 operations to loose money? Going forward universities have no choice but to shed financial anchors in their athletic departments in order to survive. He also predicted that realignment is far from over and that 50 to 60 schools will spin off from the NCAA . -

Sources: Pac-12, Mountain West football don't reach deal for '25
wardly replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
They have until 2026 to form a new PAC 12, which I think they will be forced to do as neither the ACC or Big 12 seem interested in them.My best guess is that OSU/WSU cherry picks SDSU,FSU,UNLV,BSU,AFA, and Colorado State assuming the punitive agreement they signed with the MWC is no longer in effect .If it still is then it would cost OSU/WSU about $200 million to establish a 8 school program with 6 MWC programs. The MWC could then reload with NMSU and UTEP giving them an unattractive 8 school conference similar to CUSA. I doubt the AAC would be poached by the new PAC 8 as Tulane is on the way down from a few good years in football but Memphis and USF could receive consideration. However the OSU athletic director has stated the goal is to build the best West Coast Conference .In summary, with full disclosure, I have never ever been correct on conference realignment predictions ,primarily because I though location actually mattered. -
