  1. for what is worth, La. Tech won the WAC with an 8&4 record and is going to the Poinsettia Bowl.the WAC this year included Nevada,Hawaii, and Fresno St. who will be joining MWC next year. congrats to the Bulldogs. hope to see them in the same conference as UNT.
  2. that would be hard to do since they played at FAU. my son went to the game and estimated about 10,000 fans in their new stadium.
  3. regardless of who is at fault, i don't ever remember hearing of a 32 point run in college.
  4. note: Texas Southern still shows us on their schedule.
  5. Texas State has replaced us on Houston's schedule. also, the Bobcats host Texas Tech in San Marcus, and are at New Mexico and Navy. also, i no longer see Texas Southern on our schedule.
  6. La Tech would be a natural, but they won't play in same division as Monroe. add Texas St.,NMSU,La. Tech, UTSA to NT,A-State,& ULL as Western Division in 14 team conference. Monore,Troy,USA,FAU,FIU,WK, and MTSU would conprise Eastern Division.works for SEC.
  7. i don't know if BYU's loss is our gain. all the Big East reports i read say that SDSU will take their "football only " slot along with BSU, AFA,and Navy with SMU,Houston, and UCF for all sports.this will take CUSA down to 9 members, and MWC to 7. if MWC adds SJSU and Utah State to get to 9, they will be at the number the ECS chancellor says that both conferences want for a total of 18. just a longer process than most thought, and a lot of moving parts. the ECU says CUSA/MWC football merger will be completed by january, but he also says they have applied for "football only" membership to Big East. what a mess.
  8. i meant Go Daddy Bowl for A-State, no Papa John. my bad.
  9. Confederate Football Conference has a nice southern ring to it. perhaps" Rebel Yell" whiskey would be a league sponsor.
  10. i think WK and MTSU are hooked at the hip, and we need at least 9 or 10 schools, so i would add the Hilltoppers. the name of this conference will take a little time.
  11. both the Big East and MWV are in limbo. new report says BYU won't share home tv revenue with Big East, and that this is a deal breaker, as all other B.E. schools do as well as all other AQ conferences. in addition, both AFA and Navy are getting cold feet. Boise is still good to go, and SDSU could be BYU's replacement.if MWC loses 2, and wants to add 1 to get to 9, my money would be on SJSU, whose chancellor is also over SDSU and Fresno St. that would leave the WAC with Utah St.,Idaho,NMSU,UTSA,Tx.ST.,and La.Tech.Drop Utah St.and Idaho, throw in UNT,A-State and ULL, and you could have a workable[but far from perfect] Western Division of a 14 football playing BIG BELT CONFERENCE.i realize this does not get us to where we want to go[CUSA], but it would create a regional division.having said that, this is not my Christmas wish, but its not a rock in a sock either.
  12. if CUSA loses SMU,UCF, and Houston they will be down to 9 members. if MWC loses AFC and Bosie they will be down to 8 members. i just can't believe either conference would not want a presence in DFW.
  13. i saw where A-State accepted bid to Papa John Bowl. any word on FIU or WK? would be great for the Belt to get 4 bowl bids.
  14. Rick,i was at the Texas game in 1988 on about the 5 yard line a few rows up when Texas was awarded a last second touchdown when their receiver was out of bounds in the back of the end zone. also traveled with team to Marshall for 1AA playoff where we got beat fair and square. after the hardfought game, both teams and some fans charged onto the field and began to duke it out.after cops broke it up, we boarded our bus to return to airport and were pelted with rocks and bottles.when we got to plane, police were searching for a bomb because of a called in threat.to this day i don't know whether its best to be in front or behind a "Thundering Herd".
  15. that will certainly help, but winning cures a lot of ills, plus an invite to CUSA won't hurt.
  16. note:in 1994 we averaged 19,500 playing only 4 home games,Abilene Christian,Montana,Mcneese State, and Sam Houston State, playing 8 road games including a 20-24 lose at Boise State in a 1AA playoff game. we were 7-4-1 for the season. go figure.
  17. Hayden Fry coached 1973/1978. he averaged 11,000 per game 1st 4 seasons,19,600 in 1977 when we were ranked 16th in nation, and 17,700 his next and final season. we were in SLC 1983/1994, and made the NCAA 1-AA playoffs 4 times.we averaged 19,500 our last season in 1-AA, but only 11,600 the previous 11 seasons. when it comes to attendance, we have no "golden era".
  18. it is my understanding with the addition of Missouri and A&M next year all members of SEC will have to replace one non conference game with another conference game. hope so, and hope LSU reschedules us for later in the decade and drops up next year.
  19. UTSA average football attendance this year is 35,500.UNT average for past 10 years, including 2011 ytd, is 1/2 that, and includes our 4 Sun Belt championships, 4 New Orleans Bowl appearances, amd last 3 winning seasons. i don't have a clue how to expand our fan base, but what ever we are doing is not working. being in a regional conference would certainly help, but it's our responsibility to put N.T. fans in the stadium and not count on visiting teams to add much. i don't think Houston brought more than a few thousand fans, and if we did obtain membership in Western Division of CUSA,Tulane,Rice,UTEP,Tulsa,LA.Tech,or UTSA are not going to bring more and maybe even less.
  20. the Bleacher Report article differs from the Neina's article in that it is more current and more indepth. also appears to have been written by someone who might know whats going on with the BCS.
  21. interesting article in Bleacher[i know] Report regarding this subject. latest is that BCS is discussing elimination of AQ teams and BCS bowls and just concentrate on mataching #1 vs. #2. this would stop the crazy realignment just to gain AQ status.
  22. Harry,i was not talking about UTSA for the Belt now. I could be wrong, but am assuming CUSA will add 2 teams in west division to replace 2 in west lost to Big East. if i am CUSA[i.e.ESPN], i am looking for large markets now, such as DFW and San Antonio, not small markets like Ruston or San Marcus. by doing so CUSA has a school in the 4 largest markets in Texas plus Tulsa and New Orleans for a west division. if AFC and Boise leave MWC for Big east, and are replaced by San Jose State and Utah State the WAC is dead, and whats left will work out a membership arrangement with the Belt or drop down. again, just an opinion.
  23. size does matter, and San Antonio has so far supported the Roadrunners. UTEP isn't going anywhere, and would support including a team in DFW, as would Tulsa. I don't know why anyone would want LA. Tech. its all about t.v. sets.again, just an old mans opinion.
