Source: West Virginia leaving Big East for Big 12
wardly replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
from what i read the big east has a real fear in losing their auto bid, especially with loss of pitt and w.virg. thats why they are trying to get boise state for football only. without them,i don't see how the mwc and cusa can help bring the quality needed. other than houston and boise, i can't think of another program in top 25 from either mwc or cusa. -
actually 8 road wins since 2005. but then we have only won 16 games in that period including 3 this year.

Source: West Virginia leaving Big East for Big 12

not if big east falls apart and s.m.u. doesn't move along with florida,c.f.u., and maybe e.c.u.also, this " global football conference" consisting of m.w.,c.u.a., and big east with either 28 or 32 teams would lock us out.in a perfect world, big 12 stops at 10, big east reloads, and we take s.m.u.'s spot in c.u.s.a. those 3 conference heads are susposed to meet this week. also, my understanding is that every member of big east, including basketball only members, have an equal vote in football matters. -
Beat WKU & MTSU then upset AK St or Troy then we are Bowl Bound
wardly replied to Tree's topic in Mean Green Football
i have been going to our homecoming games off and on since 61'. had a chance to see #3 team in nation with good friends who drove down from lawton as our guests for indiana game. took them up on it, spent nearly 2 hours beneath stadium waiting for storm to pass. temperature dropped, froze butt off, left at halftime. as we were drying out and warming up i asked myself the same question that you did. -
UH regents to authorize conference realignment

the big east is in real danger of losing their bcs status, and only b.s.u. can help them unless u.h. cracks top 20. -

we were invited by good friends to o.u. homecoming this past saturday where we saw an unranked 28 point underdog hand the sooners their hat. having said this, a.state is going to be a tough road win, while troy looks beat-able, as well as w.k. and mutts. at least we can control our destiny. -
Andy Katz to Big East: dump Smut/Houston for Memphis/Temple
wardly replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
this big east expansion is football driven, not basketball. also, increase of buyout from $5million to $10million goes into effect ONLY if either navey or air force accept football only bid. if neither one does, then buyout remains at $5million and big east is still a mess dependent upon what big 12 does after mizoo moves to s.e.c.. will big 12 go back to 10 schools, which is what u.t.wants, with byu joining,{perhaps for football only},or go to 12, perfered by o.u., which brings west virginia, louisville, and cincy in play . NORTH TEXAS prayer should be 1]navey or air force join, driving up big east buyout 2] big 12 just adds 1, perhaps b.y.u. 3]smu and houston get big east bids, oppening up 2 cusa slots in texas 4]these slots are filled by n.texas, and probably u.t.s.a. or maybe la. tech. the bulldogs bring a market not much larger than la. monroe, which is a big negative. mizoo expected to announce this week they are moving to s.e.c., which should get ball rolling. ain't this fun. -
its a fair question if you accept the fact that we are starting from the bottom 1/3 of the belt.also, until student fee was approved and new president came on board we did not have the budget to pay $500,000 for head coach. in fact, coach chico is probably making nearly as much as dickey ever did.you are right .improvement in the belt should be expected each year.i personally tend to discount out of conference games with top 25 programs and bcs schools, but thats just me. i'm 69, and assure you that i have more of a sense of urgency than a 90' grad.

the only person who has not make hiring mistakes are those who have never hired anyone. regarding t.d.,we had more fans at his 1st spring game than some regular games i have attended. he was a mistake, allowing him to bring his high school staff was a bigger mistake, and giving him a 4th year was the biggest mistake. lets move on. we now have a dallas campus, school of engineering, and soon to be law and pharmacy schools. regarding athletics, look at the sucessful mens basketball and womens soccer programs, and the crown jewel, our new athletic center and football stadium. when he arrived in his 1st job as an athletic director the only new dedicated athletic structure that had been built since my freshman year 1961 was the old ticket office, which hayden fry built as a athletic administration building. i feel my degree from north texas state university is more valuable now because of what the university system has done academically and what rick has done for athletics. just an old man opinion.

this is some what misleading. the increase in exit fee to $10million only goes into effect if either navy, air force, or bsu committ for football only. otherwise it stays at $5million. hopefully big 12 will add byu for football only and stop there.

First Year Head Coach Wins Again At Ark St
wardly replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
rick, 1st i am sorry the time change has hurt you plans for homecoming. i know how you schedule your professional responsibilities around unt's published time and schedule. 2nd, both a-state and ull made good hires, as did we. however, they had a base of talent to start with, where we had little if any. hiring t.d. was a mistake. allowing him a 4th year was a bigger one. we have a young offensive line, weak secondary, no size on either side of ball, and need much better play at q.b. having said that, i am always susprised how la. monroe is able to do more with less.thanks again for your continued support of north texas athletics. -

this wednesday is basketball day in big east which is a large media event. from what i read nothing formal will be announced before then so as to not detract from it. -
neither does troy. we still have a realistic chance to win 5 of last 6 games.

DMN: SMUt on verge of getting Big East invite with 4 others
wardly replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
can we help them pack? and if air force, boise, and navey say no, will thet still go? -
it was posted with tongue in cheek

i think it would be in our interest to develope a home and home in 3rd largest market in texas. plus i also think that if houston moves to big east and smu does not, that cusa replaces them with utsa. that would give cusa a school in 4 of largest markets in texas; dfw, houston, san antonio, and el paso. just an old man's opinion.
-
riverwalk, great golf, super mexican food. whats not to like?
-
for those of you who think utsa in not worthy of being on our football schedule, their future opponents are:2013,n.mexico,okla.st,arizona,houston,rice,virginia 2014,houston,arizona,okla st.,kan.st,n.mexico,virginia 2015,arzona,kan. st.,okla. st.,colorado st. they have a 3 game series with baylor 2017,2018,&2019. but i guess utsa is not good enough for a major program such as north texas.

my post was about our reluctance to schedule utsa, and not a comparasion between the 2 worst teams in metroplex, although smu has turned the corner. utsa is not going away, and if houston gets big east bid it will be the roadrunners who replace them in cusa, not north texas or la. tech. the san antonio market is just too big to ignore. hopefully smu will move to big east and open up a slot for us in cusa, but than has nothing to do with my original post, which again was concern that we are in no position to look down our nose at utsa and should schedule them in football.
-
we played them a few times recently in womens basketball and i think we lost.
-
the answer to the question is no, at least not in the 50 years i have been going to games.
-
this coming from a program that has lost 62 games in the last 6&1/2 years.

Big East Expanding to 12: SMU and Houston in play
wardly replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
if houston goes and smu does not, then utsa would replace the coogs. our only hope is for smu to move with houston. thats why i am dismayed that unt athletic department and some of our fans look down the roadrunners. we have lost 58 games in the past 6 years, plus 4 this season. the only thing we should look down on is our feet. just an old mans opinion. -
that takes care of 1 or 2 home games. what about the rest of season? so far we have only 1 out of conferernce home game scheduled for 2012,2013,2014,and 2015.we seem to look down our nose at utsa and tx.st., and then get upset when tcu and others look at us the same way. just saying...
