The Biggest Travesty of the Bowl Season
wardly replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Football
all it proves is that its ok to schedule a 1aa opponent like Indiana State, but you can't lose to them by 3 touchdowns and expect a bowl bid.W.K. is not Michigan, plus they had lowest home attendance average in the Belt, which means they might not travel well. -
SDSU hopes to put their's in the Big West, thereby spanning the nation. Boise was looking at Big Sky.AFA wanted the Missouri Valley, but were rebuffed, and are still looking for a place to land.
-
east coast newspapers reporting that SMU,Houston,UCF[all sports],Boise[football only], and SDSU[football only] will join Big East by years end, and AFC and Navy[both football only] will make move in January, with ECU as backup. i know we have heard this for months, and i will believe it when it actually happens.Big East is dead set against letting WV out early, so this continues to be a messy divorce.

LSU has 4 home out of conference games scheduled for 2012. UNT,Washington,Idaho, and Towson. i'm not positive, but i think they will have to drop one in order to accomadate the addition of TA&M.

fyi fyi,i used the d___k word instead of the p___s word a few years ago, which must of thicked off someone named Richard, and have been on "warn status" ever since. just saying.

in 1998, Darrell Dickey's first season, we played OU,TT,Arizona State, TA&M,Houston, and Kansas. we have come a long way in scheduling since then, and are down to about 2 per year.an underfunded program such as ours will always schedule a few games "up" in order to pay the bills. this may change somewhat when student fees begin to accumulate, but i doubt it. however, we should approach the point in next few years under coach MAC that CUSA,WAC,MAC, and MWC games are realistic opportunities for a win.
-
hard to believe that Dunbar set rushing record in a program that won only 10 games during his playing career, 5 of which were this year.

i don't know if WK gets an invite or not. hope so. the other 3 invites are done deals.

my bad. Southern Miss on one side, uniform # on the other. just looked like an eagle with my glasses off.

AFC now saying they are delaying their decision until January[i assume 2012], and are upset that BYU isn't joining Big East. this whole deal could fall apart, but even if it does get done, no way the MWC/CUSA merger takes place until both conferences have an accurate head count as to who is leaving and who is staying, and what,if any additions need to be made.

joe, didn't hear back so i gave them a friend and his son. sorry, ward -
the ECU chancellor seems to be only one talking, and he says two 9 team divisions. he also says they have applied and are trying to join Big East for football only. go figure.
-
we have been there, done that.
-
Southern Miss had an eagle on one side of their helment and "Southern Miss" on the other. i guess life really is a compromise.

i went to that NEW ORLEANS bowl, and while i was happy we were there, i also was embarressed by our 5&6 record. MTSU was 9&2,co-champions,but lost to us in regular season at Fouts.
-
as we speak, both CUSA and MWC appear to losing 3 schools each to the Big East. that would drop CUSA to 9 members, and MWC to 7. until both conferences get a final head count, i don't see how they can merge or schedule games. besides, looks like the AQ conferences will soon be a thing of the past as BCS may just deal with championship game when contract expires in 2013 and let conferences aline with bowls like the did before there ever was a BCS.

few your prayers are answered. my grandson is playing basketball saturday afternoon,so we are going to Sam Houston/UNT basketball game saturday night. as a result, i have 2 club seat tickets plus #8 parking pass available at no charge. i live in Frisco off El Dorado and N.Dallas tollway.call me tomorrow so we can arrange to meet. i am retired, taking a few days off from golf both Friday and Saturday, so am flexible regarding meeting.enjoy, ward white -
IF, and its a big IF,AFC,Boise, and SDSU leave MWC for Big East, then the MWC becomes a glorified WAC. if we complain about no intrastate rivals now and the travel distance to Sun Belt members, then the MWC is not for us. the closest member is in Albuqurque, which is a lot futher from Denton than Monroe. given my " druthers ", i would rather be a replacement for SMU SHOULD they and Houston leave CUSA for Big EAST.baring that, i would just as soon stay in the Belt with the addition of La.Tech,TX.St.,UTSA, and NMSU from the WAC creating 7 school Western and Eastern divisions. even UTEP doesn't want in the MWC.
-
rick, i appreciate your point of view, and continued support of N.T. athletics. if i remember the "way back machine", SMU had an AD whose name escapes me[Russ Potts?] that said something to the effect that an empty seat never bought a bag of popcorn. this is a chance to get people who might never go to a game in our new stadium at a game in which we are favored with the hope that they will buy tickets and come back next season. in addition, this game is up against a number of conference championship games, such as SEC,CUSA,that will be televised. i'm afraid the stadium would be more than half empty without this promotion. we always discuss ways to build our core fan base, and i applaud our efforts to do so. its not a perfect world, and life is not always fair. we all try to do the best we can, and thats what R.V. is attempting to do.
