  1. perception sometimes becomes reality. i don't understand the perception that La. Tech has the market, budget, and fan base to be considered for CUSA, but they are. go figure.
  2. from what i read, which you can take with a grain of salt, Temple does not want to leave A-10 in basketball, which which goes along with your best guess that they to CUSA for football only. i still can't get over Memphis to Big East for all sports. that gives them CFU,MEmphis,Houston, and SMU for all sports, and NAVY,BOISE,and SDSU football only. looks like they are hedging their bets should Louisville bolt for Big 12.
  3. i have spent way too much time googleing "Big East Expansion" thinking they wanted another "football only" school only to be blindsided by Memphis as an "all sports"addition to believe anything speculation i read. having said that, UTEP's AD said they were moving to MWC since SMU and Houston were leaving CUSA. this may change things. hope Harry is right. UNT and FIU would be good fits for CUSA.
  4. OOPS! didn't see that coming. congrats to Memphis if its true.
  5. three hardest words i learned in business were "maybe you're right". i really hope so, as this would open up another slot in CUSA.
  6. unless i was dreaming,i also heard R.V. say that 2112 will be last year that we play 2 schools like LSU and K-State on the road, and beginning in 2013 it will just be 1. having said that, i see Tennessee and Iowa on 2015 schedule, but at present these are not top 10 programs.
  7. plus 1. MTSU did a good job of shutting him down last night in comparision to his other performances. while it may sound self serving, he could benefit from another year of college ball.
  8. what amazes me is the number of D-1 players in the metroplex that received scholarships.
  9. Nova does not want Temple in, and AFA just re-committed to the MWC. in a perfect world, ECU would move to the Big East for football only, but they don't have much of a t.v.market.of course, neither does La.Tech, whose name keeps popping up as a possible CUSA replacement.
  10. question is did the players attend class, and just not "get it", or did they not attend class, and just busted out. also, is the reason that they chose UNT in the 1st place is that we accept players with "marginal" academic qualifications?i don't know that we do. just asking, not trying to blow someones skirt up.
  11. + 1 .he really loved playing, and it showed.
  12. i don't have a clue, but beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
  13. i pulled up a november quote in El Paso time in which the UTEP AD bemones the loss of SMU and Houston, and hopes to be able to schedule them in non conference games. he goes on to say addition of FIU would keep a conference presence in Florida, and that La. Tech would be " a perfect fit". Tulsa AD said something simular regarding loss of SMU game. neither mentioned UNT as a substitute.
  14. i would hope that recruits are not looking at UNT because we "could" be in CUSA soon. we just as well "could not". from every thing i have read[retired, recovering from total knee replacement revision surgery, too much time on my hands, etc.] the objective of creating a new conference is to void existing CUSA and MWC t.v. contracts and beat the Big East to the punch in negoiations for a new one.down side is that the new "continential conference" will give up automatic NCAA post season bids in all other sports for a few years[i can't remember exactly how many]. sixteen schools with 2 divisions, football championship game and basketball tourny is a good number. i would think it expands only if the new conference's t.v. partner thinks there is increased value by adding schools such as Temple,FIU,La.Tech,UNT,etc.,and is willing to pay more. if they are not,why share t.v. revenue with a school that does not increase the value of the conference? just an old mans opinion.
  15. great question! i think Tulas would, but we really don't have a "sponsor". ECU is vocal in demanding more east coast schools, to the point that their chancellor stated App State would be a great addition in they decided to move up. don't know how much power ECU has since they have bags packed in case "football only" slot opens up in Big East. speaking of which, Hawaii wants to leave all other sports in Big West because of travel costs.
  16. one of life's lessons is that you are responsible for your actions, not JJ,RV, or UNT's Athletic Department.hopefully this will "take" and these freshmen will learn from their mistakes.
  17. is that a deal breaker?SMU,Tulsa,UTEP don't have baseball. besides, we would agree to add program if it was a condition of admintance.
  18. my post was a weak attempt at sarcasism, but i do appreciate the information. does the 2014 date apply to Texas State as well?
  19. probably talking about UTSA, but your point is well taken, at least by some.
  20. i agree, but why? they have no t.v. market or following.
  21. if a CUSA spot opens up, our main competation seems to be La. Tech. who would sponsor or support them over us? Tulane?
  22. i used to think that, but their A.D. said that if conferences mergered they would move west.i guess we will know more after their meeting in Dallas sunday.
  23. i think UTEP is going to MWC if merger goes thru. if it doesn't, i don't know.
  24. i think you are right. i read where not all of the presidents will be attending, which appears to "water down " the importance of this meeting. in my opinion, i don't see the point of a merger as 4 major t.v. markets and BSU have moved to Big East. something like the PAC 12/Big Ten football scheduling agreement makes some sense. if we are lucky, UTEP moves to MWC, which drops CUSA down to 8 football programs, and both conferences reload seperately.
