  1. i went to Manhattan when we were ranked in top 10 in 1aa football and Corky Nelson was coach. the Wildcats had not won a game in 2 years but beat us in the last few minutes. i see no reason to go back, as Manhattan makes Lubbock look good.
  2. are you sure about that? i would be really susprised if they didn't go thru Rick to interview her.
  3. Rick, could you please clairfy you comments regarding her treatment at North Texas? we paid $100,000 to buy her out of her existing contract and to my knowledge gave her what she needed to be successful. she will get about $1million annual raise at UT, is an excellent coach, and while i hate to see her go i wish her nothing but the best. Ward
  4. i would check with athletic department and see where team is staying. they usually have a few extra rooms for alumni
  5. if UTEP stays in CUSA, then the MWC will probably add SJSU and Utah State to get to 10 schools, with Idaho and NMSU being left out. they have never had 2 divisions and a conference championship game, and unless they add the Vandals and Aggies have no place to go for new members. on the other hand, CUSA has plenty of options. they can easily add UNT and FIU to replace SMU and UCF,and stop at 10. or, they could go to 12 or more. i think UNC@Charlotte will be invited because ECU and Marshall are pushing hard for more east coast schools.after that, its anyones guess. the WAC needs at least 8 football programs to be an official NCAA conference, and i think whats left after the MWC raids them will seek membership in the Belt.just a guess.
  6. Christina, assit. ticket mgr., told me late last week that they are stuffing envelopes for mailing as we speak.
  7. if the New Conference increases to 22, and UTEP moves west, the MWC adds SJSU and Utah State to get to 11 schools. this leaves CUSA with 4 openings, 2 of which should be filled by UNT and FIU.i don't have a clue who the other 2 programs will be. ECU and Marshall are really pushing for east coast teams, but the only one i can come up with is UNC-Charlotte,which is just developing a football program.big gaps, with no representation in Georgia,Tennessee,Kentucky, or Virginia.
  8. i am not sure of the count, but i think the MAC has about 14 or so members at present. they are probably the only conference that is not seeking expansion.
  9. thanks! i was at NTSU 61'thru 66' on the 5 year "Vietnam Plan". ordered 2 copies, 1 for me & 1 for my college room mate.
  10. i still think its about t.v. markets, not past records or stadium owership, etc.,with DFW,MIAMI,San Jose,San Antonio and F.A.U.[south Florida]being the most attractive.unless a program has the potential to bring increased revenue to the table they will probably be left out of the new Alliance conference. La. Tech is a good example of a good program with no market. when the smoke clears the combined Sun Belt/WAC should be o.k., with NMSU,La.Tech,Texas State,Ark.State, ULL,ULM,W.K.,MTSU,Troy, and USA. Idaho is s.o.l. Just an old man's opinion.
  11. i don't know the details, but i think members of the MAC give fewer football scholarships than 1a but more than 1aa. also, why would Ohio be interested in the Belt? just asking.
  12. its about T.V. sets. San Jose,DFW,Miami, not Eastern Arkansas or S.E.Louisiana. if it was about programs i don't think we would get as much consideration as we think we are.
  13. why Ohio? they don't seem to fit.
  14. i read that UTEP wants to move West, which gives the MWC 9 football programs, and CUSA 7.SJSU has a larger market, and i don't see what Utah State brings to the table. if the MWC adds just one to get to 10, then CUSA needs to add 3, which gives UNT a better chance of being included, probably along with F._U. & a player to be named later.however,i have not been right so far, so take my post with a grain of salt.
  15. i agree.i don't see how they get much of a vote, but if they do, then the Alliance Conference will save a spot for them until they get their football program up and going. its good market, and fits their footprint.
  16. i basically agree with a few exceptions.my top 3 would be UNT,FAU,and FIU. La. Tech brings nothing to the table except a small market thats hard to get to. plus, i can't find out from anyone whether of not Tulane is on board with them. also,i can't think of a school in a decent market that would join Alliance for football.Army was in CUSA at one time[can't rember if it was football only] but bailed. bottom line;the more they add the better chance we have to be included.
  17. just last week it was La.Tech and Tx.State. what happened to them?
  18. ECU wants them in the Alliance, pushing for more east coast schools.
  19. we would be in Dayton tonight. we were told this before WK game, and some of us were polled by Cooper and others if we would pay our way and go on the team charter.final national rankings had us about 160th,MTSU 49th, and i think Denver was in the 80's.it may be a mess of a conference, but we have never won a conference regular season championship, and the Western Division only once. this says as much about our program as it does our conference.
  20. the women's basketball hire was Dr.B's, not Ricks. regarding only 5 home games this coming season,it is my understanding that we decided to wait and see the effect conference realignement would have on our future scheduling and just live with the 2012 schedule. finally, count me in on the hookers.
