Buzz Peterson comments on Benford getting UNT job
wardly replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
exactly what is an "associate head coach?" -
do you know what the exit fee for CUSA is, exclusive of lost t.v. revenue? alot of what happens to CUSA and MWC depends on what UTEP does. if they stay in CUSA, then the conference will add UNT & FIU for sure, and probably La. Tech & UC/Charlotte to get back to 12, with MWC adding USU & SJSU to get back to 10. if UTEP moves West, then either USU or SJSU gets left behind, as i can't see the MWC taking Idaho or NMSU.this means CUSA needs to add a 5th wheel, probably MTSU.
-
T.C.U. paid the Big East $5 million exit fee and never played a game. it is my understanding that the league increased exit fee to $20 million when Navy joined. if so,BSU and SDSU are not going anywhere. also, UTEP has an exit fee issue as well.i don't know what the amount is, but CUSA can't let UTEP off the hook to move to MWC and expect to get paid by SMU,Houston,Memphis, and UCF.

Sunday night coach search update - down to 3 candidates
wardly replied to NorthTexan95's topic in Mean Green Basketball
was Benford considered an "associate head coach", and is that just a title to allow him to be paid more that an assistant, or does it actually denote increased responsibility? -
whatever the Belt does in the future will not effect North Texas other that as interested observers. we are going to CUSA along with FIU."book em, Dano!"
-
not trolling.not being racist. just looking at the players and coaches in the DISD. just think it would make inroads easier.
-
call it what you want, but we need an African American with Texas recruiting ties who can recruit in the DISD.if we can just get the top players out of Dallas we will keep our program moving if the right direction.
-
what inroads in DISD? just asking.
-
i don't understand why SMU is considering hiring Larry Brown. he has been out of college coaching for a number of years,is long in the tooth, and has no local ties. it looks to me that for SMU to be successful [or us for that matter] they must be able to tap into the DISD.this coach in waiting sounds like a joke. opinions?
-
i would rather be LSU hiring J.J. than SMU hiring Larry Brown. what are they smoking on the hilltop?
-
my SMU friends tell me the sticking point for Brown is the number of handicap parking spaces he will be allowed.
-
and you know this how?just asking, not trying to start an argument.
-
we are not going to pay SMU/LSU money to a coach, no matter how popular he is.he has never won a regular season conference title, won the western division once in 11 years, is 2 for 4 in tournement championship games, and 0 for 2 in NCAA's. plus his record is deceiving,as a large number of his wins are against schools i never heard of, and i am guessing his winning conference record is about 60%. i really like.J. as a person, but feel he is overated as a coach. he is not worth more money. just an old man's opinion.
-
we are paying him $450,000 per year, which is a lot for a school whose average attendance is only 4,00 and gets no t.v. money.i don't see us paying him more than our head football coach, who makes $500,000. just because SMU has $2million to spend doesn't mean they are going to spend all of it. Karen went to UT@Austin for $600,000, replacing a coach who was making $1.2million.bottom line;i think we are maxed out as to what we can pay.
-
with UTEP moving to MWC,they will add either SJSU or USU to get to 10. regarding CUSA,we are in, as is FIU.think t.v. markets, plus Marshall recruits heavily in Florida. ECU is pushing hard for another east coast tean, so my money is on UNC/Charlotte.i don't think the Alliance wants to digest more than 4 universities at this point, but certainly could grow to 24 in a few years. they are talking about having 4 pods. if so, we would be with Tulsa,Rice,Tulane, and a player to be named later.this all should be settled this summer.
-
i think he makes somewhere in between. i also think that most North Texas fans think he hung the moon, but under the harsher light of reality JJ has never won the regular season, has only won the western division once, is 2 for 4 in the Belt Tournament Championship, and 0 for 2 in the NACC's. in addition,if you look at his 20 win seasons, nearly half are against non conference schools, most of which i have never heard of.that doesn't mean he won't get the job, but i think LSU is looking for a stronger resume. i think he has a good no pressure job here with fairly low expecations, and hope that he stays.

UNT and FIU will be invited to join CUSA. now you have heard it[and its true]. -
to put it in perspective, we got more press when Karen left than when she arrived.

tongue in cheek as regards the band. however discounted seats for families in Wing Zone would work. -

wardly replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
i don't think the powers at U.T.are happy that news of her hiring came from the Baylor head coach. not a good start, but i certainly wish her well. -

growing up in Ft. Worth [granted, mid 50's to early 60's] T.C.U. had 50 cent endzone tickets for kids and their parents.[there was no minimum wage, movies were a dime, and gasoline 16 to 18 cents per gallon]. it was quite a successful promotion,at least to a 11 year old boy. point is that its expensive for the average working stiff to take mama and the kids to a sporting event anywhere in DFW.i don't see the harm in trying a simular promotionfor a year to see if it works out. if not, we can always bus in bands from the surrounding communities.
