Sometines you take one step back in order to take two steps forward. We must give coach Mac time to recruite. Honestly, how many top players do we have at the "skill positions"? Chandler and who else?
-
After seeing attendance at A-St/F.I.U. game I wonder if CUSA is thinking "oops, we made a mistake"?
-
I am susprised by 4&1 Tulsa's low attendance.Granted, home games were against Tulane,Nicholls St.,and Fresno[a 27-26 win], but still.
-
My bad. Thanks for information.

UTSA has not beaten anyone noteworthy, and still must play Rice,SJSU,Utah ST., and La.Tech, all projected losses. However if they finish off McNeese St, Idaho, and Texas State they will finish 8&4. Bowl bound?

Random Idea in regards to changing the culture...

Whats the UNTAA? -
I was at the game, and if they had 300 recruits they accounted for 2.5% of the 13,000 fans. Also, their new stadium, like FIU's, is a giant erector set. It really reinforces what a GREAT stadium we now have!

Random Idea in regards to changing the culture...
wardly replied to UNTstormchaser's topic in Mean Green Football
I think Brad Olson was president of MGC at one time, but at my age it might have been a dream. The Green Jackets were a spirit organization during my tenure from 1961 thru 1966, and went the way of the buffalo. Bottom line is that we need to start a tradition that both the student body and alumi can agree on and buy into, something broader that just a spirit club, though that would be a good start.Just an old man's opinion. -

Traditions are had to start when you have never had one. I would suggest the the officers of The Mean Green Club meet with the officers of The Student Council and come up with something that both alumni and students can buy into. Joining CUSA next year would be a good time to start. Also,I would like to see us start a" trophy game" with either UTSA,UTEP, or Tulsa simular to TCU/SMU's game for the "Iron Skillet". Perhaps an" Armadillo" as a traveling trophy. -
Defense Comes Up Big In UNT's 20-14 Win over FAU
wardly replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I was at the game. Please note 56 yards rushing on 30 carries. This is misleading, as we got 10 yards on naked reverse by QB, and 20+ yards by #28 when he was able to bounce out wide. That got us inside 20, where we were pushed back and kicked field goal. FAU was called for personal foul, we had 1st and goal from 10, were pushed back, and kicked field goal for 2nd time. Again, FAU called for personal foul, again we had 1st and goal from 10, again we were pushed back, and kicked field goal for the 3rd time on same drive. Bottom line:we could not run against FAU all night. Not up the middle, nor turn the corners, and were lucky to get back to line of scrimmage.Better luck rushing against Houston. -
We lost a game that we should have won. It happens. Get over it.Am I happy with only 5 home games this year. No, but that has been corrected for future seasons. Am I satisfied with another 4 or 5 wins in a season. No, but we are rebuilding a program that only won 17 games total the past 7 years. In fact, in the past 50 years since my freshman year on 1961 North Texas has only experienced 19 winning seasons. You have to change a cluture that accepts loosing to one that demands winning. We are in the process of doing that, but it won't happen overnight. For the 1st time we have the financial resoures to hire experienced head coachs and a stadium that levels the playing field. I believe it is going to get worse before it gets better when we first enter CUSA. Of the 12 schools, I would put UNT,UTEP,UTSA,Rice,Tulane, and UAB in the bottom half, and La. Tech,Southern Miss.,FIU,ECU,Marshall, and Tulsa in the top half.We are looking 3 to 5 years down the road before we get really good, so just deal with it ,and quit all this petty non productive whinning. Just an old man's opinion.
-
Wins against FAU,USA, and maybe MTSU.We might upset Houston,ULL,A-State LA. Monroe, or W.Ken., but we are looking at 4 to 5 wins max. Again, there is a reason we were picked to finish 7th in the Belt. We just are not very good now but are getting better. This is a 3 to 5 year rebuilding process. Todd Dodge set us back at least that long.
-
Bottom line is that since our last trip to the New Orleans Bowl the Belt has gotten better and we have gotten much worse. Looking at our remaining schedule, the only wins I see are FAU,USA, and perhaps Middle Tennessee. There is a reason we were picked to finish 7th in the Belt this year. If we match last years record we will have done well. Its going to take a few more years for coach Mac to build a contender, and when we join CUSA its gonig to get worse before it gets better. Goals need to be reasonable and obtainable with a little pie in the sky. At this point we need to quite bitching about what we can't do at this point in the program and look to the future.Coach Mac is a winner, and North Texas will be one again. Its just going to take time.

WE missed 3 makeable field goals, dropped a touchdown pass,as did Troy, and our quarterback had an off night. On a bright note,Troy averaged 534 yards per game against UAB,ULL, and MISS. State, and we held them to 382. Not the end of the world.
-
For the next year or so we will have only 12 CUSA football programs. ODU has to move up, and UNCC has to get started. I don't know what the time line is, but someone from the Western Division must move to the Eastern Division for a few years. My guess is that "someone" will be La. Tech.,as I doubt Tulane wants to go.
-
Until fans come out to watch the home team play regardless of opponent, we will always have attendance problems. This may change somewhat when we become a member of the Western Division of CUSA, and play schools of a more regional nature. The question is,for example, that if we don't come out to see ULL or ULM, will we attend game against La.Tech? We may have more fans travel To Denton to support their team, but the responsibilty for filling the stadium is ours.

where is preseason NIT?
-
Thought you were refering to Texas State University, and I'm not sure we could beat them.
-
go on line at Ebay. they have some good stuff.

There were about 65,000 butts in seats at LSU game because of difficulty in getting to Baton Rouge, especially from Interestate 10, so stadium was about 1/3 empty to begin with. Regarding UNT Greeks, back in the day we went to games and then partied. Now they party at tailgate area and never make it to the game.Their collective lack of support is disappointing.

they were a 34.5 dog at kickoff.

As we start our new season at #1 LSU, I was wondering what our season expectations should be.I see 4 games we should win;Texas Southern,Middle Tennessee,South Alabama, and FAU. I also see 2 games we could win;Western Kentucky and LA.Monroe. I don't think we can beat the remaining schools on our schedule, so I predict another 5&7 season. Considering the deep well coach Mac found himself in when he arrived on campus, I would not be upset with a repeat of last years record. In fact, as we enter into CUSA in 2013, we probably will take a step backwards, as we will be playing a more difficult conference schedule. This years Sagarin rating, which I have found to be very accurate, lists only Tulane and UTSA below us. In sumary, I think it will take 4 to 5 more years, including this season, before we are truly competative in CUSA. At age 69, I certainly have a greater sense of urgency to succeed than most of you, but this is still just an old man's opinion.GO EAGLES![i have always thought "Mean Green" rather silly as a team nickname with only 3 winning seasons since 1994, but again, just an opinion, class of 66']

My wife and I are goining to take a pass on driving to Baton Rouge Friday because we have no idea what damage we would run into. Still a lot of flooding in the area, especially a little east east of Tigerland. I would just as soon see game cancelled at this point and try to add another home game 12/1.

Actually, its "meangreensports.com". Sorry for senior moment.
