  1. Question: where would you rather spend New Years Eve,Dallas or Las Vegas?I'm susprised the Rebels sold 200 tickets.
  2. We had 4 at BYU game, but left early. The only team other BYU that we played in Cotton Bowl according to my records was a 6-7 loss against UTA in 1981.
  3. I purchased 4 tickets, and my college roommate from the 60's and his wife are spending weekend with us and going to game. While I am excited about playing in the Cotton Bowl on new year's day, I personally would rather be playing Navy in Ft. Worth than UNLV in Dallas.
  4. Guys, I hate to look a gift horse in the mouth, but why the big whoop for a QB whose other choices were FIU and Georgia State? What am I missing ?
  5. No wonder we dropped UTA from our schedule. A 34 point home loss against Southland Conference opponent is as bad as it gets.[Except for loss last year against division 2 Northern Alabama when we had Tony Mitchell]
  6. I was not on flight back from Nevada, but in 1988 flew with the team to Marshall for 1aa playoff game. We lost,0-7, in a hard fought down and dirty game, at the end of which a fight between fans broke out in the stands. It quickly rolled over onto the field, where both teams began going at each other hot and heavy. Order was finally restored by 6 or so "smokies", and we retreated to our bus, which was pelted by rocks and bottles as we drove from the stadium. Upon our arrival to airport we found it being searched by local police, as someone had called in a bomb threat.I sat next to Ron Shanklin, and he remarked that he was just glad to get out of Huntington alive as were we all.
  7. In 2002 I had a chance to fly with the team to play ULL. We met in Denton, bused to Alliance, only to have our Global airline charter not start. While Global sent for a backup plane,we bused back to Denton, killed some time, returned to Alliance and flew on to Lafayette without incident. The next afternoon we won 27-0,and we bused to the nearly deserted Lafayette airport arriving about 9:00 pm only to discover that this plane also would not start . Global again had another backup plane flown in, sack meals were passed to the players, and about midnight we prepared for departure. About that time a male flight attendant ran up the aisle screaming "he stuck his finger up my ass, he stuck his finger up my ass." Seems like Cody Spencer had taken the banana from his sack meal and stuck it up the ass of the male flight attendant who had picked the wrong time and aisle to bend over. The crew refused to fly until Cody was arrested by local police. We felt that was somewhat of a hollow threat, as they had not yet demonstrated to us that the plane would even start, let alone fly.At any rate, after about an hour of Rick Villarreal best efforts, the compromise was that Cody was booted off the plane, no police were called, and we lifted off about 2:00 am.I don't know if you guys remember Darrell Dickey's sideline assistant trainer known as "Dr. Pepper boy", but I think he was sent with Cody with hotel and rental car money. I have no idea how they got back from the airport to town, as everything was pretty zipped up at that time in the morning.I briefly spoke to Cody at the 100 year event at Apogee and he told me he didn't have a clue why he impaled the attendant, but that it seemed like the thing to do at the time.I have been lucky enough to have flown with the football team 3 times, and always come home with a story to tell.
  8. I don't think we can stay on the field with any bowl eligible Big 10 team.
  9. Alabama's state slogan is "Thank GOD for Mississippi otherwise we would be last in everything."
  10. CUSA had 6 teams with a total of 13 wins for the season, with La. Tech leading the bottom of the barrel with 4 victories. While Georgia State in the Belt didn't win a game,USA had 5 wins, and the other 6 schools had at least 6 victories. Not much separation between Conferences, and football gets weaker with loss of ECU and Tulsa, even though Hurricanes had an off year.I hate to see Tulane go as well simply because its great to go to New Orleans, plus their football program may be on upswing. W.K. comes on board next year which will help a little.
  11. My # 1 would be Dallas, #2 St. Pete's. I wouldn't fly to Hawaii again if free 1st class tickets were offered.
  12. I could be wrong, but I think that the HOD Bowl is waiting until 12/7 or 8th to announce opponents. If so, then Rice may be in play whether we think they are deserving or not. Does anyone know for sure when HOA announces?
  13. The only reason I can think of for the HOD Bowl to select before CUSA championship is that neither Marshall nor Rice are on their radar.
  14. The P.X. in D.C.
  15. It was a great game![sJSU and Fresno St.]
  16. Actually last week was the "must win" game, and we lost. A win against Tulsa pads our record and might effect which bowl we go to, but basically we have nothing much to play for. No Division title, no CUSA Championship, and no Liberty Bowl. While I certainly hope we beat Tulsa for the 1st time since 1969,we need to play better with nothing on the line than we did last week with everything on the line. Hard to do.
  17. I would like for us to extend coach Mac's for a few more years. I think he has done a great job in building a foundation for the future
  18. Last time we beat Tulsa was 1969, losing to them in following 10 encounters.
  19. I just thought it might be best to be tied for 1st in West than to be 3rd behind UTSA and Rice. Also, UTSA can go to bowl if there are not enough 6&6 schools, or if they are granted a waver, which could happen if they are in CUSA championship game. Just an old man's opinion.
  20. The average published attendance for the 4 New Orleans bowls that North Texas participated in was a little less that 25,000 per game. We are pretty much fair weather fans. If the weather turns nasty, which it does more often than not in January, I doubt that we will deliver the numbers that we would like to the H.O.D. bowl.I have frozen my butt off several times at the Cotton Bowl, and it wasn't much fun.Just an observation, not trying to stir the pot, hope we get the invite. But having said that, I think we need to be realistic about our fan support,as average home attendance was only about 21,000.
  21. Where are you getting your 20k numbers? I went to all 4 New Orleans Bowls and the 1st two didn't look like there was a total 20k,let alone that many from North Texas.
  22. FAU had a very good team in 2004[9&3 or something close to it], beat us at Fouts, but could not got to bowl for same reason UTSA can't. In fact,FAU beat us 6 years in a row with our 1st win coming in 2010.
  23. I am surprised that the H.O.D,. Dallas Bowl is not waiting until after CUSA Championship on 7th. Makes me think Rice is out, but then again it could be "an either/or" based upon games outcome.
  24. Phil Steel has us in H.O.D. vs Washington State,Jerry Palm has us in Military Bowl Vs.Syracuse. The Orangemen must beat 7&4 B.C. to qualify. Go figure.
