  1. SMU has paid exit fee from CUSA,and would have to do the same to leave Big East. SDSU is attending todays Big East meeting in Dallas, where I expect Tulsa to be offered an invitation regardless of whether SDSU stays or leaves. When smoke clears I think Big East consists of Houston,SMU,Tulsa,Tulane,Memphis,CFU,ECU,SFU,Cincy,U.Conn. and Navy in 2015 if not sooner. If SDSU decides to stay in MWC,Then U.Mass becomes 12th school. We should know for sure after today.
  2. If Tulane can get an invite, so can Tulsa. The only shoe left to drop is SDSU. If they stay in Big East, then UTEP seems like a logical option for MWC.
  3. Its my understanding that SDSU,SJSU, and FSU are all in the same financial boat, yet it appears that only SDSU has any real option.Anyone know if MWC would allow these California schools to put all other sports in Big WEST and become a football only member? They did so for Hawaii.
  4. If you don't like the neighborhood then you move if you can. CUSA has lost half its schools to Big East;ECU,UCF,Memphis,Tulane,Houston, and SMU. The new CUSA is a mixture of those left behind and former WAC and SUN BELT members. As a member of Big East-West,they would still be able to play in DFW and Houston markets, which their president said was important to them.If I'm them I am out of CUSA in a heartbeat.
  5. If Tulsa moves to Big Eastand SDSU rejoins MWC,the "new"CUSA could look something like this: WEST:UTEP,UTSA,RICE,UNT,La.Tech.,SO.Miss EAST: Marshall,ODU,UNCC,FAU,FIU,MTSU,UAB. If SDSU stays in BIG EAST, then UTEP could move to MWC. We then need to add 2 teams in the West instead of one. My picks would be A-State and ULL,which effectively kills the Belt. They probably could survive the loss of one of those by adding NMSU,but if they lose 2 more school to CUSA then the Belt is done. If I were Marshall I would look long and hard at rejoining the MAC.
  6. By my count the Belt is down to 7 schools, plus Georgia State coming on board to move to 8. Thjey may have to add NMSU in self defense, but bets are that Idaho move football to Big Sky where it belongs.
  7. So. Miss won't get invite,Navy having 2nd thoughts, and you left UAB out of CUSA.
  8. Marsall,So.Miss, and UAB must think"what the hell!"Looks like new CUSA will be a blend of the WAC,BELT,these 3 left behind, plus ODU and UNCC.Lonnie Finch is right. The Belt and CUSA should probably either merge,or put all the names in the hat and come up with two conferences that makes geographical sense. Wonder if Marshall is looking at the MAC?
  9. Don't think they want or need Rice as they have Houston.Rice brings nothing to the table. The new CUSA and Belt should merge, leaving ULM and Georgia State in the dust.
  10. Big East becoming CUSA,CUSA is becoming The Belt,The Belt is just trying to exist.
  11. Let me get this straight. SDSU may stay in Big East partially because of savings having other sports in Big west. UTEP wants in MWC, which is a susprise to me as most of their alumni are in DFW,San Antonio, and Houston. Tulsa wants to go to Big East because they don't like the neighborhood. If so,that would bring the new Big East a total of 7 former CUSA schools, with CUSA losing a total of 8 school. That would leave the new CUSA buy my count with Rice,UTSA,UNT,LA.Tech,S.MISS,MTSU,UAB,Marshall,FIU, FAU, with ODU and UNCC yet to come..Not exactly the step up we hoped for.
  12. From outside looking in it appears players neither like nor respect Bedford. Don't know if that is a player problem or coaching problem.
  13. Might be fun to create a rival such as La. Tech and play in Shreveport every year.
  14. I just don't see them going back. As I posted before, they are happy in WCC with all other sports, and have a good football t.v. deal with ESPN.What really drives BYU is acceptance of their religion and the opportunity to spread the Morman faith. What I can see in the future is UTEP,SMU,Houston, and Tulsa moving to MWV.[i assume SDSU will have already returned]. Tulsa really wants out of the new WAC/Belt/CUSA combination they find themselves in. However,UTEP really likes playing in DFW,Houston, and now San Antonio, as a great deal of their alumni live in those markets.Time will tell, but its not ovet till its over.
  15. I think the Belt,CUSA,and Big Least Commissioners are dancing as fast as they can, and unless someone has inside information otherwise then i don't see how you can blame them for some of their flock seeking greener pastures.Their boats are all leaking.
  16. Now that A&M has purchased TWU's law school,as a taxpayer I see no need for another public program in DFW.
  17. Bottom line is that everyone works for somebody. Sometimes people forget that. When they do,they usually get fired, right or wrong.
  18. What happens if MWC takes back SDSU and desides to expand east, adding UTEP,SMU,Houston, and Tulsa? Will be interesting to see if they stay at 12 members, their historical number.
  19. I think Darrell Royal said something to the effect that potential means you ain't done it yet.
  20. I think that if SDSU returns to MWC, and that the MWC stays at 12, which they always have been, that SMU and Houston's options are limited. Either back track to CUSA, or stay the course with Big LEAST,with understanding that Cincy and U.Con are out of there as soon as they can find a place to go. That would leave only the 6 newbes from CUSA plus Temple and UCF.I like our position.
  21. I wouldn't hope that CUSA kicks anyone out. Only reason we are in is because SMU left.
  22. Never is a long time. No question CUSA looks like a hybrid Sun Belt Conference. However,as of this post[assuming SDSU returns to MWC], the Big Least consists of 6 CUSA newbies plus U.Conn.,Temple,Cincy, and USF. May be a step up, but not a leap. Regardless, I wish Houston nothing but the best, and hope your proposed new on campus stadium is as nice as ours.
  23. why don't you combine big east whth cusa and see how that shakes out
