  1. I find it interesting that some of us are discussing leaving CUSA before we even play a game. In my opinion,we are where we need to be,in a regional division, with schools that give us the opportunity to attend road games and develope rivalries. Granted the MWC is stronger than CUSA.However,we left the Sunbelt as its doormat, and are positioned to be the same in CUSA . North Texas as a member of MWC makes about as much sense as West Virginia joining the Big 12,and we aren't West Virginia. In fact,we aren't even Marshall.Goals have to be reasonable and obtainable with a little pie in the sky.
  2. If we have a 3rd losing season under coach MAC,does he get a pass?
  3. Or 5-7.It could go either way.I think best case is 6-6,worse case 4-8.
  4. lets just agree to disagree
  5. What makes you think the MWC is that big of a step up?New Mexico,UNLV,Wyoming,San Jose State, etc.? The Big West did not work for us because of the reasons I posted. Time and Travel. The MWC may have Boise, but who from North Texas would go to a game their?50,100 fans or so?This Board, regardless of whether or not I agree with opinions posted,is a prime example of why people are no longer satisfied "with so little".We actually care what happens, and from a longtime fan thats a BIG change from my freshman year of 1961.
  6. UTEP has been passed over numerous times. I just don't see a need for MWC to expand to Texas, which is not in their footprint, nor for UNT to move to MWC if invited.Time zones are an issue, and our fans don't travel as it is.
  7. If memory serves,he got drunk in New Orleans and was sent home by Giants.
  8. I think he has a better chance to be "Boy George". I wish him well, but I really don't think he is that good.Hope I am wrong.
  9. Anyone know how So.Miss. and UAB feel about going West? I am guessing they are not happy, but have nothing to base it on.
  10. Guess the law school is a go whether it's needed or not.
  11. Talk to R.V.,as it's his decision.
  12. Problem with using "UNT" is for those who live outside the area it doesn't mean anything. We would get confused with University of Northern Tennessee ,[assuming there is such a school]and fall into the same regional pot as UAB,USF,UCF,ETC,ETC.We are not UCLA,and until we are "North Texas" seems to be logical.
  13. Before we push for the MWC,I think we might revisit our experience in the Big West. A lot of travel, wrong time zones, etc. The Western Division of CUSA is, in my opinion, where we need to be.It offers regional conference games with UTEP[who has been passed over by MWC numerous times],UTSA,Rice, and La.Tech. ,although I doubt UAB and So.Miss. share my excitement. The commissioner expressed interest in a 16 team leage, but stated they were looking at large population bases with La, Tech being as exception, which doesn't bod well for ULL or A.State.In summary,we are not TCU,we don't have their budget or fan base,so lets play the hand we have before we fold.
  14. Guess it depended upon whether you were black or white. On p. 66 ot 62 Yucca you will fine K.A.'c in black face performing at "Sing Song" at Main Auditorium during Greek Week. But,you were right, simpler times, perhaps simpler minds, as NTSU did not experience[at least to my knowledge] Civil Rights and Anti-War Protests. We were in a cocoon of our own.
  15. I grew up in lower middle neighborhood in south side of Ft. Worth[south of hospital district],and never went to school with a person of color until I enrolled at NTSU in 1961. There was a 1 hour blow off class called "coaching in football 'that I took my sophomore year, and sat next to A.D.Whitfield, our star running back, who was black.I wanted to crawl under the table when an old assistant football coach teaching the class starting rambling on about making "n----r shooters" as a kid. You just had to be there.
  16. I agree. We bring nothing to the table playing Houston. However,I would love to have SMU annually.
  17. JesseMartin, this was a different time.Denton was still segregated, women could only stay out until 10:50 every night except Saturday, which was till 1:00,and we had no rights as a student. If you were a man and didn't like it, there was always the draft and Viet Nam.
  18. Where do you live:Frisco, happily married When did you graduate:1966,B.B.A. Favorite NTSU memory: Being summoned to President J.C. Matthews office and told to quit writing to " Letter To The Editor " column of D.R.C. or else. Favorite NTSU sports memory: Basketball games at the "Snake Pit" when we were in the MVC. Those of you too young to have had that experience missed what it was like to be in a premier college basketball conference playing in a packed high school gym . We didn't win many games, but as a spectator we had a ball.
  19. Guys,as a 66' graduate I would love to attend a "demolition watch" just to make sure Fouts Field is really dead. Please advise time and date when it !st blowup is i known. Thanks,
  20. It's kind of a double edged sword. When you lose head coaches to Texas LSU, and Vandy. it means you are hiring the right people. When you lose star players to those same type of programs,it means you are recruiting the right type of athletic.
  21. Probably. I'm an old man who can't see well, and I'm sure I my response was another one of my dumb ass posts. Regardless,he was a kid with a lot of guts, and I hope he does well in life. Thanks for the wake up,Ward White
  22. I have seen, and even made, some of the most dumb ass statements on this forum. However, your reasoning as to why Riley will be a terrible coach just made my top ten.
  23. I don't think its a whine at all. If he was a football player that we snaked fron Lamar there would be hell to pay on this board. Why expect less from men's basketball?
  24. Because we were.
