CUSA had 6 teams with a total of 13 wins for the season, with La. Tech leading the bottom of the barrel with 4 victories. While Georgia State in the Belt didn't win a game,USA had 5 wins, and the other 6 schools had at least 6 victories. Not much separation between Conferences, and football gets weaker with loss of ECU and Tulsa, even though Hurricanes had an off year.I hate to see Tulane go as well simply because its great to go to New Orleans, plus their football program may be on upswing. W.K. comes on board next year which will help a little.

My # 1 would be Dallas, #2 St. Pete's. I wouldn't fly to Hawaii again if free 1st class tickets were offered.

Bowl projection update 12.1.13: UNT vs. Michigan HOD
wardly replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I could be wrong, but I think that the HOD Bowl is waiting until 12/7 or 8th to announce opponents. If so, then Rice may be in play whether we think they are deserving or not. Does anyone know for sure when HOA announces? -
The only reason I can think of for the HOD Bowl to select before CUSA championship is that neither Marshall nor Rice are on their radar.

The P.X. in D.C.

It was a great game![sJSU and Fresno St.]

Actually last week was the "must win" game, and we lost. A win against Tulsa pads our record and might effect which bowl we go to, but basically we have nothing much to play for. No Division title, no CUSA Championship, and no Liberty Bowl. While I certainly hope we beat Tulsa for the 1st time since 1969,we need to play better with nothing on the line than we did last week with everything on the line. Hard to do.

I would like for us to extend coach Mac's for a few more years. I think he has done a great job in building a foundation for the future

Tulsa Fans: If we beat UNT we salvage this season
wardly replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Last time we beat Tulsa was 1969, losing to them in following 10 encounters. -
I just thought it might be best to be tied for 1st in West than to be 3rd behind UTSA and Rice. Also, UTSA can go to bowl if there are not enough 6&6 schools, or if they are granted a waver, which could happen if they are in CUSA championship game. Just an old man's opinion.

The average published attendance for the 4 New Orleans bowls that North Texas participated in was a little less that 25,000 per game. We are pretty much fair weather fans. If the weather turns nasty, which it does more often than not in January, I doubt that we will deliver the numbers that we would like to the H.O.D. bowl.I have frozen my butt off several times at the Cotton Bowl, and it wasn't much fun.Just an observation, not trying to stir the pot, hope we get the invite. But having said that, I think we need to be realistic about our fan support,as average home attendance was only about 21,000.
-
Where are you getting your 20k numbers? I went to all 4 New Orleans Bowls and the 1st two didn't look like there was a total 20k,let alone that many from North Texas.

FAU had a very good team in 2004[9&3 or something close to it], beat us at Fouts, but could not got to bowl for same reason UTSA can't. In fact,FAU beat us 6 years in a row with our 1st win coming in 2010.
-
I am surprised that the H.O.D,. Dallas Bowl is not waiting until after CUSA Championship on 7th. Makes me think Rice is out, but then again it could be "an either/or" based upon games outcome.
-
Phil Steel has us in H.O.D. vs Washington State,Jerry Palm has us in Military Bowl Vs.Syracuse. The Orangemen must beat 7&4 B.C. to qualify. Go figure.
-
Probably not. Bleacher Report has N.T. vs. Michigan in H.O.D., Rice vs. Navy in Ft. Worth "Bell" Bowl.Who knows where we will end up but a win at Tulsa would really help our cause regarding H.O.D.Personally, I would rather go to St. Petersburg than freeze my butt off in the Cotton Bowl, but hey, that's just me.I just don't see us in Hawaii,New Orleans,Maryland, and of course Liberty Bowl, so it appears we are down to Dallas and St. Petersburg. Not bad choices.

DMN has Rice to HOD bowl.
-
I did. They referred me to SB Nation. Also, the guy at Fry street told me there is in fact a conspiracy by the H.O.D. Bowl to get the two best teams available to them.In additation,,according to him we should know more after Tulsa game. He also said that Kennedy was killed by the Chicago Mafia because of unfulfilled promises made to them by Papa Joe in exchange for delivering Illinois to his son.Seems no one told brother Bobby about the deal and as attorney general he pounded both the Mafia and Teamsters Union.Just Saying.

If they beat Tulane,North Texas, and Rice, they deserve to win the West, and I certainly would be proud for them to represent us. The fact that they are a NEWBE means nothing on the field. I am more embarrassed by the play of So. Miss,UTEP,UAB,Tulsa, and FIU, who have a combined total of 6 wins and 47 loses. Now that's an embarrassment!

According to SB Nation Bowl Projections, UTSA can go to a bowl if all 6&6 teams have been selected first and a slot is still open, or if they petition NCAA and are granted an exception. If they make it to CUSA championship, my money says they get a bowl bid.
-
Since my freshman year of 61' I have seen a lot of both, as well as great wins.[i include Rice as one of the wins, as I personally think they are better than us.]Regardless, give UTSA some credit. They had lost 5 games before beating us;Oklahoma State,Arizona,Houston,Marshall, to Rice by 6 points, and beat Tulane. They are a solid team,we lost, and since there is something called an" upset," it will happen again, both too us and by us. Last I looked Kansas State lost at home to North Dakota State, a good 1aa program that only gives 65 scholarships. I don't recall fans fans chanting "off with his head" regarding Bill Snyder. While I appreciate the fact that our expectations for the Eagles have increased, football is not a perfect game , otherwise we wouldn't have replays.Good golfers forget about bad shots and missed putts and move on. We need to learn to do the same.

It's my understanding that the bowls that CUSA are affiliated with get their choice of teams based upon pecking order. Liberty gets the 1st choice,Hawaii the 2nd,etc. It doesn't mean that the 2nd ranked team in CUSA automatically goes to Hawaii, as I think Rice at #2 will end up in Dallas,[ assuming they lose to ECU] which we probably would have if we had won the West. There is a lot of horse trading that goes on between the bowls and CUSA. In my opinion we won't go to either New Orleans[although playing ULL would make for a good game] or hopefully Hawaii, and of course we won't go to Liberty Bowl. Again, its just an opinion. Until Saturday I saw us projected to go everywhere except New Orleans. We will know for sure in a week, but our stock certainly dropped.
-
I hope UTSA and Tulane both win. I would love to see Roadrunners in Championship game as they just flat beat us,as opposed to the Tulane loss where we gave the game away.Plus we would be in 3 way tie for 1st in West, which may[big may] improve our bowl position. I think we just played our way out of H.O.D. Bowl, as well as West winner and CUSA championship. Just an old mans opinion, but give UTSA the credit they deserve.
-
SB Nation just projected Maryland[big 10 doesn't have enough teams] vs. Rice in H.O.D Bowl,UNT vs. Toledo in Beef O' Brady Bowl on 12/23.

If you really believe your post, you are NUTS. We just got beat. It happens.
